Koraidon and Miraidon are the box legendaries of the Scarlet & Violet era, and their Japanese card history starts exactly where you’d expect: as the SAR chase cards of the two sets that launched together in January 2023. From there, Miraidon ex added a UR gold parallel and a standard print for deckbuilding, Koraidon ex added an RR counterpart, and both picked up a shiny reprint eleven months later.
The pairing is version-exclusive by design. Violet ex is built around Miraidon ex as its cover legendary; Scarlet ex mirrors that structure with Koraidon ex. Both cards share the same rough profile — a high-HP Basic Pokemon with a signature ability and a 220-damage attack that can’t be used again on your following turn — which makes them a natural pair to look at side by side rather than as two unrelated searches.
This guide covers the seven Japanese prints of Koraidon ex and Miraidon ex worth knowing — where each one comes from, what its ability and attack actually do, and how to tell a SAR from its standard-print twin. We ship Japanese sealed product and singles out of Tokyo every week, so the stock references here come from our own catalog.
Miraidon ex has a SAR debut print, a UR gold parallel, and a standard print from January 2023, while Koraidon ex has a SAR debut print and an RR counterpart from the same month — plus a December 2023 shiny reprint for each, seven prints in total across three sets. We currently have a PSA10 Miraidon ex SAR [SV1V 102/078] listed at ¥15,655 (actualización: agotado — pide reposición vía Quick Order), and sealed boxes of both debut sets are also currently listed: Violet ex from ¥9,880 and Scarlet ex from ¥11,648.
The only prices quoted in this guide are our own current listings, linked where they appear. We don’t quote outside market prices.

Each legendary carries a SAR debut in its respective launch set, plus a premium counterpart printed alongside it — a UR gold parallel and a standard print for Miraidon ex, an RR counterpart for Koraidon ex — and a shiny-colored reprint in Shiny Treasure ex eleven months later. The sections below walk through each tier.
Violet ex and Scarlet ex launched together for the Japanese market in January 2023, each built around its own cover legendary and its own energy type — Lightning for Miraidon, Fighting for Koraidon. Shiny Treasure ex followed in December 2023 as a shiny reprint release, and it’s the only one of the three that features both legendaries side by side rather than splitting them across two separate products.
The Origin: Violet ex and Scarlet ex SAR Prints
Violet ex (SV1V) and Scarlet ex (SV1S) launched together in January 2023, and Miraidon ex and Koraidon ex headlined them as the box-legendary SAR chase cards.

Miraidon ex (SV1V 102/078, illustrated by kantaro) is a Lightning-type Basic with 220 HP. Its ability, Tandem Unit, lets you search your deck for up to two Basic Lightning Pokemon and put them onto your bench. Its attack, Photon Blaster, deals 220 damage but locks out your own attack on the following turn.
We have a PSA10 copy of this exact print currently listed at ¥15,655 (actualización: agotado — pide reposición vía Quick Order) — the anchor stock item for this guide.

Koraidon ex (SV1S 103/078, illustrated by Ryota Murayama) is a Fighting-type Basic with 230 HP. Its ability, Dino Cry, ends your turn when used but attaches up to two basic Fighting Energy from your discard pile to your Fighting-type Basic Pokemon. Its attack, Wild Impact, deals 220 damage and also locks out your following attack — the same trade-off Miraidon ex carries on the Lightning side.
For more on how these two sets fit into the wider Scarlet & Violet era release order, see our Scarlet & Violet era Japanese Pokemon guide.
Both SAR prints use the full-bleed alternate-art treatment that defines the SAR rarity tier — artwork running edge to edge with the attack and HP text overlaid, rather than boxed inside a standard card frame.
The UR and Standard Prints
Alongside the SAR chase cards, both sets printed a second premium parallel and a standard version of the same card — the ones you’ll actually see played rather than framed.
Miraidon ex 106/078 is illustrated by 5ban Graphics and carries the same Tandem Unit ability and Photon Blaster attack as the SAR, just in Violet ex’s gold Ultra Rare finish instead of the full-art SAR treatment. Miraidon ex 037/078 is the set’s standard print of the same card — same ability, same attack, standard card frame.
Koraidon ex 050/078, illustrated by aky CG Works, is Scarlet ex’s RR counterpart to the SAR — same Dino Cry ability and Wild Impact attack, printed at the RR rarity tier rather than as a full-art SAR or gold UR.
If you’re chasing any of these prints through sealed packs, our set guides cover what came out of the two sets in more detail: see the Violet ex best cards guide and the Scarlet ex best cards guide.
How to Tell Each Print Apart
With four different treatments of the same two cards floating around, the fastest way to sort a stack is by frame, not by memory:
- SAR (102/078 and 103/078) — full-bleed alternate art, no white border, with the attack text and HP overlaid directly on the illustration. This is the rarity tier collectors mean when they say «the chase card» for either set.
- UR (106/078) — Miraidon ex’s gold-foil parallel. Same standard card layout as a normal card, but rendered in Violet ex’s gold Ultra Rare treatment rather than the usual holo finish.
- RR (050/078) — Koraidon ex’s Scarlet ex counterpart to the UR slot, printed in a standard holo-rare frame rather than gold or full art.
- Standard print (037/078) — a regular-frame holo card, and the version most likely to actually see play across multiple copies in a deck.
- Shiny reprint (358/190 and 360/190) — same abilities and attacks as the SV1V/SV1S originals, but recoloured in Shiny Treasure ex’s palette and numbered well outside that set’s base 190-card run, which is the tell that you’re holding the December 2023 reprint rather than the January 2023 original.
Card number is the fastest confirmation. Miraidon ex 102/078 and 106/078 are both Violet ex, but a 358/190 in the corner means it’s the Shiny Treasure ex reprint, not the SAR.
The December 2023 Reprint: Shiny Treasure ex
Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a) reprinted both legendaries in shiny colouring eleven months after their Violet ex and Scarlet ex debut, keeping the same abilities and attacks under new illustrations.

Miraidon ex 358/190, illustrated by 5ban Graphics, keeps the Tandem Unit ability and Photon Blaster attack from the SV1V prints, now rendered in the set’s shiny colour treatment. Koraidon ex 360/190, illustrated by aky CG Works, does the same for Dino Cry and Wild Impact. Both sit in Shiny Treasure ex’s secret-rare number range, well past the set’s 190-card base numbering.
Pairing Miraidon ex and Koraidon ex together in the same set — rather than splitting them across Violet ex and Scarlet ex the way the originals were — fits Shiny Treasure ex’s shiny-reprint format. For collectors who want both legendaries in a single frame style, this is the set where that’s possible.
Shop the Sets: Violet ex and Scarlet ex Boxes
Because Miraidon ex’s SAR, UR, and standard prints and Koraidon ex’s SAR and RR prints all come out of their respective debut sets, sealed Violet ex and Scarlet ex booster boxes are the direct route if you want a shot at any of them.
For the Koraidon ex side of the pair, the Scarlet ex Booster Box is currently listed from ¥11,648 and carries the same set’s SAR, RR, and standard Koraidon ex prints. Since both sets launched together and use the same 78-card structure, buyers chasing the full pair — Miraidon ex from one box, Koraidon ex from the other — typically order one of each rather than betting everything on a single set.
