What the Database Lists for Both Cards

The official database page for each card prints a short block of fields. The table below copies those fields for the two Arita prints. The rarity letter is not one of the fields the database shows, so none is stated here.

Two code conventions matter when reading the numbers. The first card is printed 020/080, which is card 20 of an 80-card main set whose code is XY9-B. The second is printed 205/XY-P: the denominator is a promo code rather than a card count, so the number 205 does not tell you how many cards a set holds. The official product names for XY9-B and XY-P are not in our sources.

The Pokedex line is the same on every regular (non-V, non-GX) Suicune entry in the database: No.245 and the category オーロラポケモン. The neighbouring beasts print their own lines, No.244 on Entei and No.243 on Raikou, which is how the three cards in a set can be sorted before the names are read. All three share one origin in Pokemon Gold & Silver (1999), where Ho-Oh revived three Pokemon after lightning struck the Brass Tower and the Burned Tower links Suicune to rain and the Water type, according to our legendary beasts guide.

Suicune XYP 205/XY-P

The second Arita print is a promotional card. Its database entry, card ID 31646, shows the same illustrator credit, the same 120 HP and the same Japanese ability and attack text as XY9-B 020/080.

The database text for this card reads, in rendering: the ability かぜのまもり protects all of your Pokemon from the effects of attacks used by the opponent’s Pokemon while Suicune is in the Active Spot, and the attack オーロラビーム does 110 damage. Because the wording matches the XY9-B card, the two entries carry the same printed rules text.

How XY-P 205 was distributed is not stated in the sources we hold, so no event, product or date is given here. The only dated fact about the Arita prints in our sources is the database snapshot of October 29, 2026.

Mitsuhiro Arita’s Beast Cards in the Database

Of the 80 official database entries for Entei, Raikou and Suicune on October 29, 2026, eight carry Arita’s credit. Two are Suicune, three are Entei and three are Raikou.

The table has seven rows because the Entei XY 011/171 appears as two database entries. The XY7-B 015/081 Entei is the Bandit Ring print that older guides describe differently from the 014/081 print credited to Naoki Saito; our Entei cards guide and the legendary beasts guide each describe one of them.

Our Mitsuhiro Arita guide traces his career from the 1996 prototype era and names Base Set Charizard 4/102 and Pikachu 58/102; it does not list an Entei, Raikou or Suicune among the credits it names. The beast cards above come from the official database instead.

The S4a set includes the Suicune prints 033/190 and 221/190, which are different cards from the two Arita prints in this guide.

Reading Promo Numbers Against Set Numbers

The XYP card is one of several Suicune promos in the database, and each promo series writes its number its own way. Reading the format first saves a wrong guess about which print you hold.

The pattern is that the code after the slash names the promo series, and the number before the slash counts within that series. A set card such as XY9-B 020/080 does the opposite: the denominator is the size of the main set. The SV-P print has its own guide: Suicune SV-P 194 Promo Card Guide.

Suicune and the October 29, 2026 Trademark Report

On October 29, 2026 premium.gamepedia.jp and PokeGuardian reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「オーロラの波紋」 (working English translation “Aurora Ripples”; no official English name exists), which collectors read as a possible Suicune set; nothing is announced.
