SV4K and SV4M are a genuine same-day twin release — both 94 cards, both launched on October 27, 2023, split by theme rather than by scale. SV4a is a different kind of product entirely: it arrived five weeks later as a standalone 360-card set, not a companion to the twins. Treat “SV4a vs the SV4 twins” as the real comparison here, not “three equal parts of one release.”

Shiny Treasure ex: The Giant of the Family

Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a) is a different scale of product to its same-numbered siblings. At 360 cards, it was the largest Japanese TCG set at the time of its release — it had already passed Shiny Star V’s 330-card count, and it went on to hold that record until Start Deck 100 Battle Collection’s 742 cards surpassed it in December 2025.

The set introduced Shiny Pokemon as a core mechanic for the Scarlet & Violet era, including Shiny Pokemon ex cards, “S”-rarity Shiny Pokemon, six hyper-rare gold-foil Pokemon ex, eight special-illustration-rare Shiny ex/Supporter cards, and three illustration-rare Shiny cards.

How the SV4 Family Compares to English Paradox Rift

SV4K and SV4M together correspond to the English “Paradox Rift” set. Paradox Rift runs 266 cards in English, versus 190 combined across the two Japanese sets (94 + 94, with some overlap in how numbering works) — Japan split the Ancient and Future Paradox Pokemon into two separate 94-card expansions rather than releasing one combined set, which is why buying “the JP equivalent of Paradox Rift” means buying both SV4K and SV4M rather than one box.

Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a) doesn’t have a single one-to-one English equivalent in the same way — it’s a standalone Japanese high-class-pack-style release built around the Shiny Pokemon mechanic, not a direct translation of an English set.
