VSTAR Universe (S12a) Chase Cards: Charizard, Mewtwo VSTAR, Rayquaza VMAX and More

VSTAR Universe (S12a, or S12A) is the Japanese-edition 하이클래스팩 released on December 2, 2022, and this guide shortlists its chase cards: the Charizard line, Mewtwo VSTAR, Rayquaza VMAX, Gengar, Mew and Arceus VSTAR. It gives each card’s number and rarity, and links the PSA 10 listings we carry, starting with Charizard VSTAR 014/172.

What is VSTAR Universe and what is in a pack?

VSTAR Universe is the Sword & Shield 하이클래스팩 with set code S12a, sold in Japan as a 10-card pack for ¥550 including tax. Every pack includes one V, VSTAR or VMAX card, and the cards are inserted at random. All facts in the table above come from the official S12a page on pokemon-card.com.

The official page also lists the reprints and new cards. Reprinted: Mew VMAX, Mew V, Arceus VMAX, Arceus V, Origin Forme Palkia VMAX and V, and Giratina VMAX and V. New: Regigigas VSTAR and V, Hatterene VMAX and V, Simisear VSTAR, Radiant Eternatus, the Tool card Sky Seal Stone, and two Supporters, one for Sinnoh and one for Hisui. Simisear V is also reprinted. For the full set breakdown, read our VSTAR Universe (S12a) complete guide.

If you already know the card you want, a graded copy is the direct route. We list a PSA 10 Charizard VSTAR and several other S12a cards, covered below.

What are the VSTAR Universe chase cards?

The VSTAR Universe chase cards in this guide are the Charizard family (V, VSTAR and Radiant), Mewtwo VSTAR, Rayquaza VMAX, Gengar, the Arceus VSTAR UR and the Mew AR. This is a shortlist, not a price ranking. It is built from two things: the cards the official sources show for the set, and the S12a cards we list graded PSA 10. We do not print prices here because they change; each product page shows the live price.

Read the table in two halves. The first six rows have numbers that are 172 or lower. The last two rows have numbers above 172 (262 and 183), so the first number is larger than the denominator printed after the slash. That makes the number a quick first filter when you scan a listing.

Which VSTAR Universe chase card should I look at first?

Start with the Charizard line if you want three cards in one number sequence, Mew 183/172 if artwork matters most, and Arceus VSTAR 262/172 if you want the UR. Each choice below follows from what the official pages and our listings state.

Which Charizard cards are the chase cards in VSTAR Universe?

Three Charizard cards are on our shortlist: Charizard V 013/172, Charizard VSTAR 014/172 and Radiant Charizard 015/172. Their numbers run in sequence, 013, 014 and 015, all with the /172 denominator. Our guide to Charizard in VSTAR Universe goes deeper on the SAR and Radiant versions.

Radiant Charizard has several PSA 10 product pages on our side. The same card number, 015/172, appears on pages such as this one, this one and this one. Each listing carries its own product photo, so use the photo on the page you are about to order from to see the card you are buying.

Charizard VSTAR 014/172 is listed as RRR. Charizard V 013/172 is listed as RR. The listing for Radiant Charizard shows no rarity code, so this guide gives only its number.

Which one should you pick? Choose by the card you want to own. Charizard VSTAR 014/172 carries the higher rarity code on our listings (RRR against RR for the V), while Radiant Charizard 015/172 is the card with the Radiant name. If you want all three, they are 013, 014 and 015 of 172, and each has its own PSA 10 page.

Which other VSTAR Universe cards are worth chasing besides Charizard?

Mewtwo VSTAR 051/172, Rayquaza VMAX 108/172 and Gengar 048/172 are the three non-Charizard cards we list as PSA 10 from this set. Mewtwo VSTAR and Rayquaza VMAX are both listed as RRR; the Gengar listing shows no rarity code.

Mewtwo VSTAR suits a collector who wants a VSTAR card that is not Charizard. Rayquaza VMAX suits a collector who prefers a VMAX card. We list it on this PSA 10 page and on a second page with the same card number.

Gengar 048/172 is the pick for a collector who follows Gengar rather than the Pokémon on the other cards. The listing gives only the card name and number. We list it at this PSA 10 page and at a second page with the same number.

For other cards from the set, see our Entei, Raikou and Suicune V SAR comparison and the Raikou V 038/172 vs 218/172 SAR guide.

What do AR, SAR and UR mean for chase cards in this set?

AR and SAR are the two rarities that debuted in VSTAR Universe, and UR is the rarity shown for the Arceus VSTAR. AR means Art Rare and SAR means Special Art Rare. The official page shows a gallery of 17 AR illustrations and 25 SAR illustrations, so the two new rarities together add up to 42 illustrated cards in that gallery.

Pick by what you want to own. The official announcement for the Jumbo Card Collection sets presents the AR illustrations as the highlight, so an AR card such as Mew 183/172 is the route if artwork matters most to you. If you want a V-type card from the shortlist, the RRR and RR listings above are the ones to look at.

What do the official pages say about Arceus VSTAR and Mew?

Arceus VSTAR is card 262/172 and UR, and Mew is card 183/172 and AR; both details come from the official card database. These are the two cards in this guide where the official page gives the full card text, so they are the easiest to describe precisely.

Arceus VSTAR (official card page) is illustrated by AKIRA EGAWA. It has 280 HP and evolves from Arceus V. Its Ability is Starbirth, its attack is Trinity Nova for 200, and when the VSTAR is knocked out, the opponent takes 2 Prize cards. The card is credited to S12a 하이클래스팩 “VSTAR Universe”.

Mew (official card page) is illustrated by Ryota Murayama. It is a Basic Pokémon with 60 HP, the Ability Mysterious Tail and the attack Psychic Shot for 30. The number 183/172 and the AR rarity make it the Art Rare card in this guide. Our Mew VSTAR Universe guide covers the Mew AR and Mew VMAX in full.

Mew also appears in a second product. Three Jumbo Card Collection sets went on sale December 16 at ¥1,980 each (tax included): Lapras (Lapras and Galarian Moltres), Mew (Mew and Oricorio) and Latias (Latias and Ditto). Each holds 2 jumbo cards, 3 VSTAR Universe packs of 10 random cards, and 2 card stands. The official announcement presents the AR illustrations as the highlight.

Which new cards and reprints matter for play in VSTAR Universe?

The set adds Regigigas VSTAR, Hatterene VMAX, Simisear VSTAR and Radiant Eternatus as new cards, and it reprints Mew, Arceus, Origin Forme Palkia and Giratina in V and VMAX form. The same official page that lists the cards also explains how the Tool card Sky Seal Stone works.

According to the official page, when Sky Seal Stone is attached to a Pokémon V, that Pokémon can use the VSTAR Power Ability Star Order.

Our shortlist does not include these cards because we do not list PSA 10 copies of them. If one of them is your target, the complete card list guide is the place to confirm numbers.

How do I match a number to the right VSTAR Universe card?

Match the card by the full number printed on it, such as 013/172, together with the set code S12a. Our listings give the card name, the number and the set name “하이클래스팩 VSTAR Universe”, so all three can be checked against the card you want.

Three habits prevent mistakes. First, check the denominator: every number in this guide ends in /172, even when the first number is larger, as with 183/172 and 262/172. Second, check the set code on the listing: our product titles read “s12a” and “하이클래스팩 VSTAR Universe”. Third, check the grade line: our PSA listings state PSA 10 (Gem Mint) in the description, and the photo shows the PSA case.

Our listings carry one more note: the PSA case may have minor scratches or marks on its surface. It appears in the description of every PSA 10 page linked above.

What does PSA 10 mean on these listings?

PSA 10 (Gem Mint) is the highest grade certifiable by Professional Sports Authenticator, according to our listing descriptions. Each listing says the card is graded PSA 10 and describes it as being in flawless, gem mint condition.

For a collector, that means the grade is stated on the product page rather than something you judge yourself. The listings also say the PSA case may have minor scratches or marks on its surface, and the photo on each page lets you look at the case before you order. When we list the same card number on more than one page, as with Radiant Charizard 015/172, Rayquaza VMAX 108/172 and Gengar 048/172, compare the photos on each page.

Should I open VSTAR Universe packs or buy a PSA 10 card?

If you want one specific card, buy the PSA 10 listing; if you want to open packs, buy packs. Packs are random: 10 cards each, with a V, VSTAR or VMAX in every pack. No official source names a card you will get from a pack, so a pack cannot promise a Charizard, a Mew or an Arceus.

The decision comes down to certainty. A graded listing gives you the card, the number and the grade up front. A pack gives you ten random cards and one V-type card. Read the VSTAR Universe booster box guide before choosing a sealed route, and compare against other Japanese sets in our Pokémon 151 vs VSTAR Universe and Shiny Treasure ex vs VSTAR Universe guides.

How do shipping and payment work for these cards?

Orders ship by FedEx with a tracking number, and you pay in Japanese yen through PayPal or Wise. Both details come from our shipping policy and payment methods page.

Those transit times are estimates only. Most orders are processed and shipped within 5 business days after PayPal or Wise payment has cleared, and that handling window is also an estimate. Business days exclude weekends and Japanese national holidays. There is no minimum order amount or quantity, so a single graded card is a valid order. FedEx cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes, so use a physical address.

PSA cards have one extra rule. They may also be sold through our other sales channels, so a PSA item shown online can already be sold before our team locks the allocation for your order. After your payment clears, we secure the matching PSA graded card even if extra sourcing is needed, and dispatch may take longer in that case. Once shipped, delivery timing is controlled by FedEx and destination-country authorities, and customs inspections, import procedures, weather and carrier events can delay delivery.

You can follow your order in your customer account. Once the order is dispatched, the tracking number and the carrier’s latest delivery estimate appear in your account or in the shipping confirmation email.

Can I change my address after I order?

While an order is paid and its shipment is not yet scheduled, you can update the shipping address yourself under My Account > Orders. The destination country cannot be changed, and the carrier, shipping method and FedEx service level stay as selected at checkout. If shipping to the new address costs more, you pay the difference before dispatch and the order is held until it is settled; if it costs less, the shipping charge is not recalculated and no refund is made. Check the address before you place the order.

All payments are made in JPY. Any gap between the amount we charge and your statement comes from exchange rates and fees charged by your card issuer, bank or PayPal.

What are the Wise deadlines?

Without a screenshot of your Wise transfer, your order is cancelled automatically if payment has not been received within 12 hours of placing it; for an order with a pre-order item that window is 3 hours. With a screenshot, you upload it within 5 days, your order price is held for a total of 10 days, and payment must arrive before that hold ends. The screenshot option requires an account and is not available at guest checkout. Enter the payment reference SST-{order number} in the Wise reference field exactly as issued.

If you pay by SWIFT, a receiving fee of JPY 611 is deducted before the funds reach us, so add JPY 611 to your order total. The page also asks you to select the OUR charge option so that correspondent bank fees are covered on your side.

Is PayPal Pay Later available in my country?

PayPal decides whether Pay Later appears at your checkout and which option it shows. These are the interest-free options the payment page lists for seven countries; in other countries PayPal may show a different option on different terms, and the terms in PayPal’s own window apply.
