The Card: Palafin ex 207/187 SAR
Palafin ex (イルカマンex) is a Stage 1 Water-type Pokemon with 340 HP, evolving from Finizen. Its Ability restricts how it can enter play, and its attack, Giga Impact, deals 250 damage but locks the Pokemon out of attacking the following turn — a high-risk, high-reward line that fits the character’s in-game “Hero Form” gimmick.
The 207/187 Special Art Rare is the premium treatment of the card, illustrated by Tetsuo Hara. Its card number already tells part of the story: it runs past the set’s nominal 187-card denominator, which is the standard way Scarlet & Violet–era Japanese sets number their alternate-art and secret-rare chase slots. That places 207/187 in the same numbering band as the set’s other above-187 chase cards, rather than in the main 001–187 print run.

Print History: 046/187 RR vs 207/187 SAR
Palafin ex has two confirmed Japanese prints in SV8a, and they sit at opposite ends of the set’s value spectrum.
046/187 — Double Rare (RR)
Illustrated by PLANETA Mochizuki, this is Palafin ex’s standard main-set print — a Double Rare sitting inside the regular 001–187 number run. It’s the version pulled at the base RR slot, and the one most likely to turn up loose in a booster box before you get anywhere near the chase rarities.
207/187 — Special Art Rare (SAR)
Covered in full above: the alternate-art chase print, illustrated by Tetsuo Hara, numbered above the set’s nominal 187-card denominator. Same Pokemon, same attack text, a completely different illustration and a completely different rarity tier.

These are the only two Terastal Fest ex prints of Palafin ex. Limitless TCG’s own print-history record also lists the card reprinted outside this set, in Mask of Change (SV6) at 036/101 and 116/101, and in Starter Decks 100 Battle Collection (MC) at 216/742; this guide focuses on the two Terastal Fest ex prints, since that’s where the SAR anchor and its Double Rare sibling originate.
The Set: SV8a Terastal Festival ex
Both Palafin ex prints come from SV8a, released in Japan on 6 December 2024. You’ll see this set referred to under two names in circulation: card-database sources such as Limitless render it as “Terastal Fest ex,” while our own store and most retailers list it as “Terastal Festival ex.” These are not two different sets — it’s the same SV8a release under two names that both remain in active use.
Card numbers in the set run on a nominal /187 denominator, but the full gallery — once alternate-art and secret-rare treatments are included — extends to 237 cards. That gap between the printed “out of” number and the actual gallery size is where 207/187 sits, alongside the set’s other above-187 chase cards.

Where the SAR Sits in the Rarity Ladder
Within Palafin ex’s own two prints, the ladder is straightforward: the 046/187 Double Rare is the base-tier print, and the 207/187 Special Art Rare is the elevated alternate-art chase print above it.
Zooming out to SV8a as a whole, the set carries other chase treatments beyond the Special Art Rare tier. The Master Ball Mirror treatment — seen on cards such as Umbreon at 092/187 — is a separate print style from the SAR treatment on Palafin ex, and the set also carries Secret Rare Supporter prints, such as Friends of Paldea at 195/187.
So a 207/187 SAR pull sits above the set’s base Double Rares, in the company of Master Ball Mirror and Secret Rare treatments as the set’s other above-187 chase prints — without one of those tiers being officially ranked above the others in the source material we’re working from here.
