Mudkip Pokemon Cards Guide: Japanese Prints, Rarities and the 30th CELEBRATION Promo

Early Promos: XY Era Concept Packs

Mudkip’s earliest verified Japanese prints sit inside the XY era — a mainline set common, a concept-pack issue, and two further promotional issues, all mapping to the same English artwork family (XY Promos #38, also cross-linked to Primal Clash #33).

XY5t Tidal Storm (2014)

Card number 012 in Tidal Storm (XY5t), released 13 December 2014, is a Common (C) illustrated by Aya Kusube.

CP4 Premium Champion Pack “EX×M×BREAK” (2016)

Card 026 in the Premium Champion Pack “EX×M×BREAK” concept pack (CP4), released 16 April 2016, is illustrated by Aya Kusube — the same illustrator credited on the XY5t common above. Two further promotional issues from the same artwork family, XY Promotional Cards (XYP) 109 and NAN114, complete this group; NAN114 carries a different illustrator credit, Daisuke Ochiai.

In English, this artwork family corresponds to XY Promos #38, also cross-linked to Primal Clash #33 on the same set’s international-prints listing.

Eevee Heroes and the Starter Decks 100 Print

Mudkip’s most recent print with a confirmed release date before the 2026 promo comes from Eevee Heroes; an undated Starter Decks 100 issue shares the same artwork and illustrator, but its release date is unconfirmed, so where it falls in the timeline is unknown.

S6a Eevee Heroes (2021)

Card 019 in Eevee Heroes (S6a), released 28 May 2021, is a Common (C) illustrated by KIYOTAKA OSHIYAMA. The same artwork and illustrator credit appears on Starter Decks 100 (SI) card 093 — the two share their International Prints listing, both mapping to Fusion Strike #62 in English.

Our search covered every Mudkip result on Limitless TCG’s Japanese card index for its literal Japanese name, and each row across all three groups above was opened and confirmed individually. No pre-2014 Japanese Mudkip print surfaced in that search, so we are not asserting anything about one.

Chase Prints and What Makes Them Collectible

Across the prints we have verified, Mudkip has not carried a higher rarity tier such as AR, SAR, SR or CHR in any Japanese set we checked. Four of the eight historical prints — the two Sky-Splitting Charisma cards, the Tidal Storm common and the Eevee Heroes common — are stated Common (C); the remaining four — the Premium Champion Pack concept-pack issue, the two XY Promotional Cards issues and the Starter Decks 100 issue — do not show a rarity tier on the source we checked.

That leaves the 2026 30th CELEBRATION promo (109/M-P) as the clear outlier: it is the first Mudkip print we have verified in a foil full-art promo treatment, distributed as one of a fixed set of three promos per card set rather than a random pull. For a card that has otherwise stayed at Common rarity or without a stated rarity tier through six Japanese sets and eras, that alone marks it out as a clear step up in treatment for the Hoenn starters.
