Carmine Pokemon Card Guide: All 7 Japanese Prints

Carmine Pokemon Card Guide: All 7 Japanese Prints

Six of Carmine’s seven Japanese card prints are credited to the same illustrator, kantaro. The seventh isn’t — and that one difference is why the SAR sits in a different price tier: our PSA 10 copy is currently listed at ¥81,823, while the other six circulate as common reprints.

Carmine (Japanese name: Zeiyu) is the Supporter card introduced in Scarlet & Violet’s Mask of Change expansion, with base artwork set in front of a Kitakami house. Across four Japanese sets and one promo release, she’s been printed seven times — once with a brand-new illustration, and six times credited to the same illustrator, kantaro. This guide walks through every print, explains what the card actually does, and points to the specific PSA 10 SAR copy currently in our own Tokyo stock.

If you’re searching for “carmine pokemon card” because you pulled one and want to know what you have, the fastest way to sort it is by illustrator first, number second. Six of the seven prints are credited to the same illustrator, kantaro — and the card number in the corner tells them apart from there. The SAR breaks that pattern entirely with a different illustrator, En Morikura, which is why it’s worth checking before assuming your copy is the common version.

Key Takeaway

Carmine has seven confirmed Japanese prints across Mask of Change, Terastal Fest ex, Battle Partners Deck Build Box, and a 2025 starter collection reprint. The SV6 130/101 SAR — the only print with unique artwork, by En Morikura — is the one collectors chase. We currently have a PSA 10 graded copy of the Carmine SAR listed at ¥81,823 (~$502), and sealed Mask of Change booster boxes are currently listed at ¥15,965 (~$98) if you’re chasing a copy yourself.

Every Carmine Card and What It’s Worth

Seven confirmed Carmine prints, spanning a promo release and four Japanese sets:

卡牌 Number Rarity Set Year
Carmine SVP 171 Promo SVP Promotional Cards —
Carmine SV6 097/101 U Mask of Change 2024
Carmine SV6 123/101 SR Mask of Change 2024
Carmine SV6 130/101 SAR Mask of Change 2024
Carmine (mirror) SV8a 170/187 Mirror reprint Terastal Fest ex 2024
Carmine SVN 33 Promo Battle Partners Deck Build Box 2025
Carmine MC 715/742 Reprint Starter Decks 100 Battle Collection 2025

Notice how much repetition is in that list. Aside from the SAR, every print — the promo, the U, the SR, the SV8a mirror, the SVN insert, and the 2025 starter-collection reprint — is credited to the same illustrator, kantaro, whose art for this card shows Carmine standing in front of a Kitakami house, hand on hip, in her yellow hairband and blue jersey. The SAR is the only print by a different artist, En Morikura, and that’s exactly why it sits in a different price tier from everything else on this list.

The SAR: SV6 130/101, the One With New Art

Carmine SAR, SV6 130/101, Mask of Change
Carmine SAR, SV6 130/101, Mask of Change

Carmine’s Special Art Rare, numbered 130/101 in Mask of Change, is illustrated by En Morikura — a different artist from the kantaro art used on every other print of this card. That’s the single fact that separates this print from the rest of the list: it’s the only Carmine card with unique artwork rather than a reuse or mirror of the same illustration.

Special Art Rare sits well above the set’s regular U and SR tiers in the modern Scarlet & Violet rarity hierarchy — it’s the full-illustration slot reserved for a small number of cards per set. SAR is Mask of Change’s top rarity tier for this card, and Carmine’s SAR fits that pattern: one print, one artist, and a price gap from the rest of the lineup that reflects how much rarer that specific combination is.

As a Supporter card, its effect is unusual: it can be played even during the first player’s opening turn, when Supporter cards are normally locked out. Playing it means discarding your entire hand and drawing five new cards — a full hand reset available on turn one, which is why competitive decks value it as a consistency tool rather than just a collector’s chase.

Check This First

If your copy is credited to kantaro and shows Carmine standing in front of a house, hand on hip, you have one of the six non-SAR prints, not the SAR. The SAR’s En Morikura art is a distinct illustration, so there’s no ambiguity once you’ve compared them side by side.

We currently have a graded copy of this print in stock: a PSA 10 Carmine SAR listed at ¥81,823 (~$502). It’s a one-of-one piece in our catalog — when it sells, it’s gone.

The Base Prints: SV6 097/101 U and 123/101 SR

Mask of Change printed Carmine twice at the set’s regular rarities before the SAR, both carrying the same kantaro artwork.

Carmine SR, SV6 123/101, Mask of Change

The 097/101 uncommon is the standard playset copy — the version most Mask of Change boxes and singles buyers end up holding, since it’s the print that circulated in the largest numbers. The 123/101 SR is a holo-treatment printing also credited to kantaro, sitting a rarity tier above the uncommon but still short of the SAR’s unique illustration.

After Mask of Change: SV8a, SVN, and the 2025 Reprint

Carmine kept appearing in Japanese product for over a year after Mask of Change closed, always on the same kantaro artwork.

Terastal Fest ex (SV8a), released December 6, 2024, carries a mirror reprint at 170/187 — the same kantaro illustration, given a new card number for the new set. Battle Partners Deck Build Box (SVN), released January 24, 2025, includes Carmine as card #33. And the December 19, 2025 Starter Decks 100 Battle Collection reprinted her again at 715/742, in a set whose main purpose is bundling reprints from across recent Scarlet & Violet releases into one large collection product. Rounding out the list is the SVP promo release, #171.

None of these carry any unique art or a rarity step-up over the SV6 base prints — all four are credited to the same illustrator, kantaro (the SV8a print is a confirmed mirror of the SV6 art), which is normal for a Supporter card that gets reprinted across new products. For a collector, that also means the SV8a, SVN, MC, and SVP versions are visually close to the SV6 097/101 U; the main reason to track down a specific one of these four is to complete a full print run rather than to get a visually distinct card.

What Carmine’s Effect Actually Does

Every print of Carmine carries the identical effect: it can be played even on the first player’s opening turn, when Supporter cards are usually locked out entirely. Playing it discards your whole hand and refills it with five fresh cards.

That combination — usable turn one, full hand reset — is why the card holds playable value alongside its collector appeal. Under standard rules, the player going first in a game normally can’t play a Supporter card at all on their opening turn; Carmine is written as an explicit exception to that restriction. A first-turn hand that isn’t working can be completely replaced before a single Pokemon has even been played, which is a meaningfully different tool from the more common “draw a few extra cards” Supporter effect that only kicks in once a board is already established.

Because the effect is identical across all seven prints, none of them are stronger or weaker to play with than any other — the SAR, the U, the SR, and every reprint function exactly the same way in a deck. The differences between prints are entirely about artwork, rarity, and which product they came out of, not gameplay.

English Printings

Carmine’s English-language prints appear in Twilight Masquerade (card numbers #145, #204, and #217) and Prismatic Evolutions (#103). Mask of Change, the Japanese set that introduced her SAR, released April 26, 2024 — well ahead of its English counterpart, which is the usual pattern for Japanese Scarlet & Violet product. For more on what else came out of that set, see our Mask of Change best cards guide.

Chasing Carmine Through Sealed Mask of Change Boxes

The U, SR, and SAR prints of Carmine all come out of the same product — sealed Mask of Change booster boxes are the direct route to any of the three SV6 prints, alongside the rest of the set’s chase cards.

常見問題

What is the rarest Carmine Pokemon card?

The SV6 130/101 SAR from Mask of Change, illustrated by En Morikura. It’s the only Carmine print with unique artwork — the other six prints are all credited to the same illustrator, kantaro. We currently have a PSA 10 graded copy listed at ¥81,823.

What does the Carmine card do?

Carmine is a Supporter card that can be played even on the first player’s opening turn, when Supporter cards are normally locked out. Playing it discards your entire hand and draws five new cards.

How many Carmine card prints are there?

Seven confirmed Japanese prints: an SVP promo, the SV6 U, SR, and SAR from Mask of Change, a mirror reprint in Terastal Fest ex (SV8a), an insert in the Battle Partners Deck Build Box (SVN), and a 2025 reprint in the Starter Decks 100 Battle Collection.

Does Carmine have any “Carmine’s Pokemon” cards?

Not that we’ve been able to confirm. Unlike some other Supporter characters who share a set with paired “[Name]’s [Pokemon]” cards, no owner’s-Pokemon cards under Carmine’s name turned up across the sets checked for this guide.
