Print History & Sibling Rarities in S5a

Galarian Articuno V was printed three times within S5a, each at a different rarity:

The 025/070 copy is the regular Rare (RR) — the standard-frame print you’d pull as part of the main numbered set. The 073/070 copy steps up to a Secret Rare Full Art, with the artwork running edge to edge but still framed within the card’s borders. The 074/070 anchor of this guide is the Secret Rare Special Art version — the most heavily illustrated of the three, and the one profiled above.

S5a also printed Galarian Articuno’s fellow legendary birds at the same SR:SA tier. Galarian Zapdos V sits at 076/070, also Secret Rare Special Art, following the identical numbering pattern. Galarian Moltres V sits at 078/070, Secret Rare, HP 220, Darkness type, illustrated by Shibuzoh.

Japanese vs English Print

S5a itself never released in English — there is no English-language set that maps directly onto S5a’s own numbering or checklist. But the illustration on this specific print is not Japan-only: the same artwork by Uta was used for the English Chilling Reign (SWSH6) 170/198 print, catalogued as an «Alternate Full Art» at Ultra Rare rarity, confirmed directly on Limitless TCG. The Japanese Secret Rare/Special Art code and the English Ultra Rare/Alternate Full Art label describe the equivalent chase tier under each region’s own rarity system — they are not the same set number, but they share the same illustration.

So while S5a the set is Japan-exclusive, this particular illustration is not confined to Japan — it has a direct English-market counterpart printed in a completely different set. That also explains the naming confusion covered above: without an official English S5a product, every English label attached to the set itself (Matchless Fighters, Peerless Fighters, Twin Warriors) is a translation applied after the fact by different catalogues, not a name Pokemon itself assigned — even though individual S5a illustrations, including this one, went on to appear in Pokemon’s own official English sets.
