The Pokemon Entei card (エンテイ) appears five times in the official Japanese card database under the XY-era set codes XY, XY7-B and CP4, and the five entries sort into only two card texts. The Bandit Ring (XY7-B) pair, 014/081 and 015/081, is the pair that trips people up: one is credited to Naoki Saito at 120 HP, the other to Mitsuhiro Arita at 130 HP, and they are different cards.
This guide places each entry by set code, number, illustrator and HP, renders the printed card text in English, and shows how the CP4 016/131 and the XY 011/171 fit around the Bandit Ring pair. USD figures for our listings convert at ¥154/USD, approximate.
- The official database lists five XY-era Entei entries: XY7-B 014/081 and 015/081, CP4 016/131, and two separate entries both printed XY 011/171.
- Naoki Saito is credited on 014/081 and 016/131 (120 HP, identical card text); Mitsuhiro Arita is credited on 015/081 and both XY 011/171 entries (130 HP, identical card text).
- We currently list the XY 011/171 as a visible PSA 10 at ¥41,088 (~$267); the database variant it represents is not specified, and the XY7-B and CP4 numbers are not listed.
The Five XY-Era Entei Entries at a Glance
The official Pokemon Card Game database on pokemon-card.com holds 31 Entei-family entries from the Diamond & Pearl era onward. Five of them carry the set codes XY, XY7-B or CP4. The table sets them side by side; the database does not print rarity letters, so none appear here.
| Set code · number | Illustrator | HP | Moves (rendering) | Our listing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XY7-B 014/081 | Naoki Saito | 120 | Two attacks: top-4 trash with Energy attach; damage scaling on the opponent’s Bench | Not listed |
| XY7-B 015/081 | Mitsuhiro Arita | 130 | Ancient ability (two Tools); Flame Barrier; Heat Tackle | Not listed |
| CP4 016/131 | Naoki Saito | 120 | Same two attacks as 014/081 | Not listed |
| XY 011/171 (database id 33563) | Mitsuhiro Arita | 130 | Same text as 015/081 | Visible PSA 10 at ¥41,088 (~$267) |
| XY 011/171 (database id 33732) | Mitsuhiro Arita | 130 | Same text as 015/081 | Same listing name as above (our listing does not say which entry) |
Two details stand out. The database holds two separate entries for XY 011/171, with different ids, and our listing names the card only as Entei [XY 011/171] from the Pack Haut de Gamme “The Best of XY”. And the five entries collapse into two card texts: the Saito text (014/081 and 016/131) and the Arita text (015/081 and both XY 011/171 entries). For the full 31-entry list across every era, see our Entei checklist for the official database.
XY7 Bandit Ring: Two Entei, Two Illustrators
Bandit Ring (set code XY7-B in the database) contains two Entei cards, and they sit one number apart. That is the reason older write-ups disagree: one describes 014/081, another describes 015/081, and each is accurate for the card it describes. Our own Entei Pokemon Card Guide: 8 Key Japanese Prints Verified records the 014/081 as an Uncommon credited to Naoki Saito at 120 HP, and our Entei, Raikou & Suicune: Card Value Guide records the 015/081 as a Rare credited to Mitsuhiro Arita at 130 HP. The official database confirms the illustrators and HP values but does not print the rarity.
Entei 014/081: the Naoki Saito print
The database page for エンテイ XY7-B 014/081 credits Naoki Saito, gives 120 HP, and records the Pokedex line No.244 with the category かざんポケモン (Volcano Pokemon, rendering). It is a Basic card with two attacks and no ability.

The first attack, もえるほうこう (“Blazing Roar”, rendering), trashes the top 4 cards of your deck and attaches all Energy among them to your Pokemon however you like. The second, コンバットブレイズ (“Combat Blaze”, rendering), does 20 damage plus 20 more for each of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. Energy costs are shown on the card by symbols and are not reproduced here.
Entei 015/081: the Mitsuhiro Arita print
The database page for 015/081 credits Mitsuhiro Arita and gives 130 HP. This is the card with the ancient ability 古代能力 Θ(シータ)ダブル (“Theta Double”, rendering), which lets the Pokemon carry up to two Pokemon Tools. Our own media library carries a photograph of this print.

Its first attack, フレイムバリア (“Flame Barrier”, rendering), does 30 damage and reduces the damage this Pokemon takes from attacks by 30 during the opponent’s next turn. Its second, ヒートタックル (“Heat Tackle”, rendering), does 130 damage; you flip a coin, and on tails the Pokemon also takes 30 damage itself.
The two Bandit Ring cards therefore differ in illustrator, HP, ability line and both attacks. The only thing they share is the Pokemon and the set. When a listing, a binder label or a search result says only “Entei Bandit Ring”, the card number (014 or 015) is what identifies the card.
CP4 016/131: Naoki Saito’s Text Again
The database entry for エンテイ CP4 016/131 credits Naoki Saito, gives 120 HP and records the same Pokedex line as the Bandit Ring 014/081: No.244, かざんポケモン. Its card text, as the database prints it, matches the 014/081 attack for attack: “Blazing Roar” (rendering) trashing the top 4 cards of the deck and attaching the Energy found, then “Combat Blaze” (rendering) adding 20 damage per Benched Pokemon on the opponent’s side.

What the database establishes is a shared illustrator credit, a shared HP and shared card text between 014/081 and 016/131. Whether the two cards use one and the same artwork is not something the credit line can settle; the images above and in the previous section are the way to compare. The difference you can read straight off the card is the denominator: 014/081 belongs to a set of 81 numbered cards, and 016/131 to a set of 131.
That denominator is also a practical sorting tool. If a binder holds an Entei with 120 HP and the Saito credit, the slash number tells you whether it is the Bandit Ring print or the CP4 print without needing any other marking.
XY 011/171: Mitsuhiro Arita’s Text Again
The third place the Arita text appears is the XY 011/171, and this is the card our listing carries. The database holds it twice, as id 33563 and as id 33732, both crediting Mitsuhiro Arita at 130 HP with the same ancient ability, Flame Barrier and Heat Tackle text as the Bandit Ring 015/081. Our listing names the card as part of the Pack Haut de Gamme “The Best of XY”, which is covered in our guide to that pack.

Our Mitsuhiro Arita Pokemon cards guide follows his work across the game. For Entei specifically, the database credits him on three XY-era entries: the Bandit Ring 015/081 and the two XY 011/171 entries. A fuller spotlight on those three sits in our Mitsuhiro Arita Entei cards guide.
The shared card text between 015/081 and 011/171 means the two numbers describe the same game card in two different printings; the difference is the set, the number and the packaging around the card, not the rules text. The same logic applies to 014/081 and 016/131 on the Saito side.

The slab photo on the product page shows what the label reads, and the number to match first is 011/171.
The Card Text Side by Side
Because the five entries share two card texts, a single comparison covers all of them. The table renders the official Japanese text into English; the wording is a rendering, not an official translation.
| Element | Saito text (014/081, 016/131) | Arita text (015/081, XY 011/171 ×2) |
|---|---|---|
| HP | 120 | 130 |
| Ability line | None | Ancient ability Θ Double: up to two Pokemon Tools |
| Attack 1 | Trash the top 4 cards of your deck; attach all Energy among them to your Pokemon as you like | Flame Barrier, 30: the damage this Pokemon takes is reduced by 30 during the opponent’s next turn |
| Attack 2 | Combat Blaze, 20+: 20 more damage for each of the opponent’s Benched Pokemon | Heat Tackle, 130: flip a coin; on tails this Pokemon also takes 30 damage |
Read purely as printed text, the two designs ask for different handling. In the Saito text, the first attack moves Energy from the top of the deck onto the board and the second grows with the opponent’s Bench. In the Arita text, one attack carries a damage-reduction effect and the other carries a coin-flip recoil, and the ability line allows extra Tools. Which of these a player would prefer is a deck-building question this guide does not rank.
The HP gap, 120 against 130, distinguishes the two documented groups if the artwork is hidden by a sleeve or a slab label.
A note on names: the quoted attack and ability names in this guide are renderings of the Japanese names printed on the cards, not official English names, and our sources do not state official English names for these moves. If you are searching a marketplace or a binder index, the set code and card number are the reliable handles; the move names are only a reading aid. The Pokedex line and the category かざんポケモン appear on the Saito prints as the database records them, and they describe the Pokemon rather than the print, so they do not help separate one entry from another.
How to Tell Which XY-Era Entei You Hold
Match the number over the denominator first, then the illustrator credit, then the HP.
| What the card shows | Entry it points to |
|---|---|
| 014/081, 120 HP, Naoki Saito | XY7-B Bandit Ring, Saito text |
| 015/081, 130 HP, Mitsuhiro Arita | XY7-B Bandit Ring, Arita text |
| 016/131, 120 HP, Naoki Saito | CP4, Saito text |
| 011/171, 130 HP, Mitsuhiro Arita | XY, Arita text (two database entries) |
The 011/171 row deserves one more note. Because the database lists two entries with that number, a card matching 011/171 matches both ids by number, illustrator, HP and text alike, so the number and illustrator are as far as this guide goes.

Where This Fits With the October 2026 Trademark Reports
On October 29, 2026 fan sites reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「マグマの鼓動」, which collectors read as a possible Entei set; nothing is announced. Our Magma Heartbeat trademark guide (working English translation of マグマの鼓動; no official English name exists) explains what is confirmed and what is not, and the ex★ 2027 trademark round-up puts the four reported names side by side.

Foire aux questions
How many XY-era Entei cards are in the official Japanese database?
Five entries carry the set codes XY, XY7-B or CP4: XY7-B 014/081, XY7-B 015/081, CP4 016/131, and two separate entries both printed XY 011/171. Naoki Saito is credited on two of them and Mitsuhiro Arita on the other three.
What is the difference between Entei XY7 014/081 and 015/081?
They are different cards. The 014/081 is credited to Naoki Saito at 120 HP with two attacks and no ability. The 015/081 is credited to Mitsuhiro Arita at 130 HP with an ancient ability that allows two Pokemon Tools, plus the attacks Flame Barrier and Heat Tackle.
Is Entei CP4 016/131 the same as the Bandit Ring 014/081?
The database shows the same illustrator, Naoki Saito, the same 120 HP and the same card text for both. Whether they share one artwork is not established by the credit line, so compare the card images. The denominators differ: 081 for Bandit Ring and 131 for CP4.
How much is the Entei XY 011/171 PSA 10?
We currently list the PSA10 Entei [XY 011/171] from the Pack Haut de Gamme The Best of XY at ¥41,088 (~$267). The listing names the card by number and set and does not say which of the two database entries it is.
What does the Theta Double ancient ability on Entei 015/081 do?
In our rendering of the printed Japanese text, the ancient ability allows the Pokemon to have up to two Pokemon Tools attached. The same text appears on both XY 011/171 database entries.
