What are the key facts about the OP-05 Awakening of the New Era booster box?

The key facts are a Japanese-edition box, set code OP-05, released in Japan on August 26, 2023, with 24 packs of 6 cards each. The table below lists the exact names and numbers, and each row points to the page it comes from.

Two names appear for the same set, and it helps to keep them straight. The Japanese title on Bandai’s page is 新時代の主役, and the English-language Bandai page calls the set « Awakening of the New Era ». We use the English name for the Japanese-edition box, and we always add « Japanese » so the edition is clear.

What is the Awakening of the New Era booster box, and what is the set about?

It is the Japanese-edition ONE PIECE CARD GAME booster box for set OP-05, sold as a box of 24 packs. Our product page describes it as a set that celebrates the dawn of a new era in the One Piece world, with the new generation of pirates and the changing balance of power after Wano.

Bandai’s official pages name the characters it features: God Enel, Sabo (shown as the Revolutionary Army’s No. 2), Gear 5 Luffy and Kaido. Our product page adds Trafalgar Law and Eustass Kid to its list of key cards, next to Gear 5 Luffy (Nika) and Sabo. None of these names tells you what is in your particular box, because the cards are randomly packed at the factory. Bandai’s Japanese page says the cards are randomly packed, and our product page repeats that individual card pulls are not guaranteed.

A box is a different kind of purchase from a single card, and we cover that choice further down.

What is inside an Awakening of the New Era booster box?

Chaque boîte contient 24 booster packs, and each pack holds 6 cards, so one box is 144 cards. Bandai’s official Japanese page confirms 6 cartes par pack and 127 possible cards across the set.

The official rarity breakdown for the set is below. The rows add up to the 127 cards Bandai states.

Source: Bandai’s Japanese OP-05 page and English OP-05 page. Our product page uses a different Leader count in its short summary; this article uses Bandai’s Leader count of 6 throughout.

On top of those 127 cards, Bandai lists 27 types of parallel illustration cards plus 1 more. The English page states that multiples of one card may appear and that a full set may be hard to assemble. Keep that in mind when you think of a box as a way to build the set.

The official pages also say that illustrations may differ from the final product and that details may change. We therefore treat the Bandai pages as the reference for the card list, and we do not add numbers of our own.

Which cards does Bandai name for the Awakening of the New Era booster box?

Bandai’s Japanese page names the Gear 5 Luffy cards OP05-118 and OP05-119, and Bandai’s English page names the three Super Parallel captain cards and the six manga-style Leader parallels.

Bandai’s Japanese page states that Gear 5 Luffy (op05-118 and op05-119) makes its first booster pack appearance in this set. Our product page also lists Gear 5 Luffy (Nika) among the key cards, alongside Trafalgar Law, Sabo and Eustass Kid.

The Super Parallel captains

Bandai describes three Super Parallel cards, all captains, as a first in a booster pack. The numbers on the official English page are op05-069_sp, op05-119_sp and op05-074_sp.

Leader parallels and the Oda anniversary card

Six Leader parallel cards in the original-art, manga-illustration style return in this set. Their numbers are op05-001p, op05-002p, op05-022p, op05-041p, op05-060p and op05-098p. Bandai also lists a special illustration by Eiichiro Oda as the 1st anniversary card, numbered st01-012p.

For the complete numbered lists, use our related articles instead of relying on a short summary: OP-05 Awakening of the New Era Liste des cartes: Every Card and Rarity, One Piece OP-05 Awakening of the New Era: All 35 Parallel and SP Rows and OP-05 Chase Cards: Awakening of the New Era One Piece Hits & Odds.

How do I read the card numbers named for this box?

Bandai’s pages name each group of special cards by its card number, and the table groups the numbers exactly as Bandai lists them. The Gear 5 Luffy numbers come from the Japanese page, and the other groups come from the English page.

Sources: Bandai’s Japanese OP-05 page for the Gear 5 Luffy numbers and Bandai’s English OP-05 page for the parallel, Super Parallel and anniversary numbers. The full parallel set is 27+1 types, so this table is not the whole list.

Note that the anniversary card is numbered st01-012p, not op05. The rarity table above lists one 1st Anniversary Special Card type, and the official English page names st01-012p as the Oda anniversary card. When you compare a seller’s listing with the official page, match the full card number exactly, including any letters after the digits.

How does the Japanese Awakening of the New Era booster box differ from the English release?

Bandai’s Japanese page gives an OP-05 release date of August 26, 2023, while its English page gives December 8, 2023 for the OP-05 booster pack. The two pages also show different pricing and different wording.

Sources: Japanese page and English page.

The practical point for a collector is simple. If you want the Japanese printing of the set, you need a Japanese-edition box, and that is what we list. The two prices in the table are the official prices per pack on each Bandai page. They are not what a box costs today, and we do not compare them with current market prices.

The English page notes that cards are tournament legal from the pre-release date in your region. We make no claim about how a Japanese-edition card is treated at your local events. Check your own event rules before you buy for play.

Should I buy the regular box or the damaged box of the Awakening of the New Era booster box?

Choose the regular box if you want the listing described as brand new and sealed, and the damaged box only if you accept cosmetic damage on the outer box and a sale with no returns or refunds. Both are the same set and the same Japanese edition.

The damaged-box page says the discount comes from cosmetic damage to the outer box and that the cards inside are unaffected. It also says the condition photos are samples from the same stock, showing the typical level of damage, and that the box you receive may differ from them. The type and extent of damage vary by item.

The page explains why these boxes exist. Our warehouse in Tokyo buys large volumes of Japanese trading cards every day, and dozens of staff pack and inspect every item against clearly defined condition standards. Boxes that cannot be sold as mint-condition products were separated from regular stock during inspection, kept in storage, and are now offered at a lower price than the regular products.

Read the two listings side by side before you order. The table is a way to compare the two listings as they are written, not a promise about what any individual box contains.

Is the Awakening of the New Era booster box a good way to get a specific card?

No, a sealed box is a random product, so it is not a reliable way to get one specific card. Our product page states that the specific cards in each box are randomly packed at the factory and that individual card pulls are not guaranteed.

That applies to every sealed booster box. If your goal is a named card such as a Gear 5 Luffy number, check the card lists first so you know the exact number and version you want. Then decide whether you want to open packs or look for that card on its own.

The English page’s own note adds a limit on building the set from boxes: it says a full set may be hard to assemble because multiples of a card may appear.

A short decision checklist

• You want to open packs of the Japanese edition: a box of 24 packs fits.
• You want the listing described as brand new and sealed: the regular listing is the one.
• You accept outer-box damage and a no-returns, as-is sale: the damaged listing is an option.
• You want one named card: read the card list and chase card articles before deciding on a box.

How does shipping work for the Awakening of the New Era booster box?

The box ships from our warehouse in Tokyo by FedEx, and most orders are processed and shipped within 5 business days after your PayPal or Wise payment has cleared. Our shipping policy sets these terms.

Source: Shipping Policy. These transit times are estimates only. Shipping cost is calculated automatically at checkout based on your delivery address.

Several other policy points matter for a box order:

• There is no minimum order amount or quantity.
• The handling time is an estimate only, and business days exclude weekends and Japanese national holidays.
• Delivery dates shown on our website, at checkout or in carrier tools are estimates. They do not include our handling time, pre-order release timing, supplier allocation delays, quality inspection holds, weekends, Japanese national holidays, customs processing, carrier congestion, weather or destination-country delivery conditions.
• Dispatch can take longer when stock changes, for example through supplier allocation changes, pre-order releases later than announced, inventory arriving later than expected, or a unit reserved for your order failing quality inspection. If dispatch is delayed, we contact you by email as soon as practical with the revised estimate.
• After the parcel is handed to FedEx, delivery timing is controlled by the carrier and destination-country authorities. Customs inspections, import procedures, remote-area handling, peak season congestion, weather and carrier events may delay delivery, and the policy says these transit delays are outside our control.
• FedEx cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes, so give a physical address.

Order status and address changes

Once the products for your order are secured and the shipment is ready, we update the order status, and you can check it in your customer account. After dispatch, the tracking number and the carrier’s latest delivery estimate are available from your account or the shipping confirmation email.

The customer is responsible for giving a complete and accurate shipping address. While an order is paid and its shipment has not yet been scheduled, you can update the shipping address yourself from My Account > Orders. The destination country cannot be changed, and the carrier, shipping method and FedEx service level remain those chosen at checkout. If shipping to the new address costs more, the order is held until you pay the difference. Once the shipment is scheduled, the self-service change closes, and we may consider only a minor correction that does not affect any shipping condition, as long as the shipment has not been handed to FedEx.

Which payment methods can I use for the Awakening of the New Era booster box?

You can pay by Wise bank transfer, by PayPal, or by credit or debit card through PayPal, and all payments are made in Japanese yen. The details are on our payment methods page.

The card brands named on the payment page are Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB, and PayPal decides which is offered to you based on your country and your card. A PayPal account is usually not required for a card payment, though PayPal may occasionally ask you to sign in or create one. Card details are entered on PayPal’s side, and we never see or store your card number, expiry date or security code.

Source: Moyens de paiement.

If you pay by SWIFT, the payment page says a receiving fee of JPY 611 is deducted, so you should add JPY 611 to your order total. Correspondent banks may also deduct their own fees, and the page asks you to select the OUR charge option so those fees are covered on your side. If the amount we receive is short, order processing is paused until the shortfall is paid and confirmed. The screenshot option for Wise requires an account and is not available at guest checkout. Enter the payment reference issued with your order, SST-{order number}, exactly as issued.

PayPal Pay Later by country

PayPal Pay Later splits an eligible order into interest-free instalments, and the product name depends on the buyer’s country. The payment page lists these options seen at our checkout:

• United States: PayPal Pay in 4, 4 payments, one every 2 weeks, first payment at checkout.
• United Kingdom: PayPal Pay in 3, 3 monthly payments, first payment at checkout.
• France: PayPal Paiement en 4X, 4 monthly payments, first payment at checkout.
• Italy: PayPal Paga in 3 rate, 3 monthly payments, first payment at checkout.
• Spain: PayPal Paga en 3 plazos, 3 monthly payments, first payment at checkout.
• Australia: PayPal Pay in 4, 4 fortnightly payments, first payment at checkout.
• Canada: PayPal Pay in 4, 4 payments, one every 2 weeks, first payment at checkout.

In other countries PayPal may show a different option on different terms. The instalment agreement is between you and PayPal, so read the terms PayPal displays in its own window before you confirm.

What should I check before ordering the Awakening of the New Era booster box?

Check the edition, the listing type, your delivery address and the payment deadline. Each of these can change what arrives and when.

One more habit helps: compare any card number you care about with the official lists before you buy. The numbers in this article, such as op05-118, op05-119 and the _sp and p suffixes, are taken from Bandai’s pages, and the full set is in our card list article.

Where can I buy the Japanese Awakening of the New Era booster box?

You can order it from Samurai Sword Tokyo, and the box is shipped from our warehouse in Tokyo by FedEx. The regular box is on the OP-05 booster box page (mise à jour : épuisé — demande de réassort via Quick Order), and the discounted cosmetic-damage version is on the damaged box page.
