S8a released on October 22, 2021, and Palkia is credited in the official card database to illustrator 5ban Graphics — the same credit as Dialga one number earlier.

1. Card Identity and Type
Palkia is Water-type, a Basic Pokémon (たね), 130 HP, illustrated by 5ban Graphics. Its Pokédex panel, verbatim: “No.484 くうかんポケモン / 高さ：4.2 m 重さ：336.0 kg / 空間を ゆがめる 能力を 持ち シンオウ地方の 神話では 神様として 描かれている。” Our rendering: Palkia is Dex No. 484, the Spatial Pokémon, 4.2 m tall and 336.0 kg, said to have the power to distort space and depicted as a deity in the Sinnoh region’s mythology.

No Resistance is printed on the card, and the database shows no evolution-panel entry for Palkia — it stands alone in this set, with no BREAK or GX partner listed.
2. Ability and Attack
Palkia carries one Ability, listed under 特性:
- Absolute Space (ぜったいくうかん) — JP, verbatim: “このポケモンがバトル場にいるかぎり、相手は手札からスタジアムを出せない。” Our rendering: As long as this Pokémon is in the Active Spot, your opponent can’t play Stadium cards from their hand.
And one attack:
- [{W}{C}{C}] Over Smash — 80+ (オーバースマッシュ) — JP, verbatim: “次の自分の番、このポケモンの「オーバースマッシュ」のダメージは「+80」される。” Our rendering: During your next turn, this Pokémon’s Over Smash does 80 more damage.
Over Smash costs one Water Energy plus two Colorless, deals 80 damage on the turn it’s used, and sets up a bigger hit the turn after if Palkia stays in play. Basic Water Energy is one of the eight Energy prints the set carries, and the database shows no card number on any of them.
3. Set Position and Its Companion Card
Palkia sits at 009/028, directly after Dialga at 008/028 — the two Sinnoh Legendaries are numbered back to back, share the same illustrator credit (5ban Graphics), and neither database page carries an evolution-panel entry. By type, Palkia has only one companion among the numbered S8a cards: Kyogre at 007/028, also a 130 HP Water Basic, credited to Ryuta Fuse, with Aqua Storm and Surf as its attacks.
The database itself only carries pages for 25 numbered S8a cards, 001/028 to 025/028, plus eight unnumbered basic Energy cards, and 026/028 to 028/028 are not separate database entries. One secret rare does have a page of its own: the 029/028 Professor’s Research SR, illustrator Ken Sugimori, printing the same Supporter text as the regular 003/028 card.
The credits either side of Palkia move in pairs, which is a useful way to navigate the checklist: Reshiram 010/028 and Zekrom 011/028 are both Aya Kusube, Xerneas 012/028 and Yveltal 013/028 are both AKIRA EGAWA, the Cosmog line from 014/028 to 017/028 is all kirisAki, and Zacian V 018/028 and Zamazenta V 019/028 are both Mitsuhiro Arita. Dialga and Palkia are the 5ban Graphics pair in that sequence.
Palkia also appears in 2026’s 30th CELEBRATION at 014/103, a Water-type Basic with 130 HP credited to kawayoo, with Palkia LV.X 147/103 in that set’s Classic Collection.
4. Elsewhere in the 25th Anniversary Line
The Promo Card Pack 25th ANNIVERSARY edition (S8a-P) reproduces 25 cards spanning 1996 to 2017; Palkia isn’t one of them. The 25th Anniversary Golden Box’s S8a-G subset is 16 database entries — 001/015 through 015/015 plus an unnumbered Basic Lightning Energy — covering five Pikachu-line Pokémon, six Items, four Supporters and that one Energy card, so Palkia doesn’t appear there either. The official product page gives that box an official MSRP of ¥17,600 (tax included), separate from the plain S8a booster box this guide is about. So 009/028 is Palkia’s only 25th Anniversary print.
The same official page lists one more item in the 25th line-up: the 25th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION Special Set at ¥1,188 (tax included), holding four expansion packs, one Promo Card Pack 25th ANNIVERSARY edition and one Pokémon coin, planned for convenience stores nationwide. The promo pack was handed out with purchases of four booster packs during the launch campaign; the Special Set also contained one. The official page adds that the buy-four campaign was not run at convenience stores, and that cards from the promo pack cannot be used in official tournaments.

Every S8a pack draws five holo cards at random from the set’s 全28種類 pool, so 009/028 reaches a collection through sealed product rather than through a fixed slot.
