What Is Mega Gengar ex in the Mega Dream ex Set?
Mega Gengar ex is the Mega Evolution form of Gengar, printed as a Pokémon ex in the Japanese high class pack MEGA Dream ex (M2a). It sits at the end of a family the official card page lists in order: Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Gengar ex and Mega Gengar ex.
M2a is a high class pack, not a standard booster. The official product page gives the release date as Friday, November 28, 2025, the suggested retail price as 550 yen tax included, and the pack size as 10 cards, randomly inserted. The same page names the rarities that define the set: MA (Mega Attack Rare, new with this product), AR (Art Rare) and SAR (Special Art Rare). It also describes mirror cards with energy-mark or Monster Ball patterns, new Mega Evolution ex cards such as Mega Dragonite ex, Mega Eelektross ex and Mega Froslass ex, and reprints from past events grouped by deck archetype.
The official page describes MA as special illustrations of Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, and it names Mega Charizard X ex, Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex among them. The Mega Gengar ex card page carries the same MA icon, so Gengar belongs to that group. If you want the full rarity breakdown for the set, our guide to MA vs SAR vs AR in Mega Dream ex covers how to tell them apart.
The regulation page for the MEGA era lists Pack Haut de Gamme MEGA Dream ex and links to its product page, so the set is part of the MEGA-era lineup on the official regulation page. That page does not print a release date or a regulation mark for the product, so use the product page for the date.

What Does the Mega Gengar ex Card Do in Play?
Mega Gengar ex is a 350 HP Stage 2 Pokémon whose Ability makes your Pokémon give up fewer Prize cards, and whose attack moves Energy to your Bench. Everything below comes from the official card page for card 230/193.
| Card element | What the official page says |
|---|---|
| Stage and HP | Stage 2, HP 350 |
| Weakness / resistance | Weakness ×2, no resistance |
| Ability | Shadow Veil: while this Pokémon is in play, if your Pokémon is Knocked Out by an attack from an opponent’s Pokémon ex, the opponent takes 1 fewer Prize card. Multiple copies do not stack. |
| Attack | Void Gale 230: move 1 Energy attached to this Pokémon to 1 of your Benched Pokémon. |
| Rule | When a Mega Evolution ex is Knocked Out, the opponent takes 3 Prize cards. |
| Illustrator | Taiga Kasai |
How does Shadow Veil change the Prize race?
Shadow Veil subtracts one Prize card from the opponent’s take when an opposing Pokémon ex Knocks Out one of your Pokémon. The card text says « your Pokémon », and the Ability stays active while Mega Gengar ex is in play. It applies only to attacks from Pokémon ex. Because copies do not stack, a second Mega Gengar ex adds nothing to the Ability.
The card also carries a rule that pulls the other way: when a Mega Evolution ex is Knocked Out, the opponent takes 3 Prize cards. Mega Gengar ex is one of your Pokémon, so a Knock Out of Mega Gengar ex by an opposing ex attack would hand over 2 Prize cards rather than 3. That is a reading of the printed text, not a ruling, but the arithmetic follows directly from the two lines on the card.
What does Void Gale 230 do?
Void Gale deals 230 and then lets you move 1 Energy attached to Mega Gengar ex to one of your Benched Pokémon. The card page gives the damage and the Energy-moving effect; the Energy cost is not listed in the text we use here, so check the card itself before you build around it.
Which Mega Gengar ex Mega Dream Versions Exist: 230/193 MA and 240/193 SAR?
Two versions matter for collectors: the MA version, numbered 230/193 on the official card page, and the SAR version, numbered 240/193 on our PSA 10 listings. Both are Mega Gengar ex and both come from M2a.
| Version | Number | Rarity | Where it is documented |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Gengar ex MA | 230/193 | MA (Mega Attack Rare), shown by the icon | Official card page |
| Mega Gengar ex SAR | 240/193 | SAR (Special Art Rare) | Shop listings, PSA 10 listing and a second PSA 10 listing |
Both numbers are higher than 193, the number printed after the slash. The official card page labels the MA version only with an icon, matching the MA rarity named on the product page, so there is no text label to quote.
The two versions carry different numbers and different rarities. The MA version is a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex of the kind the product page describes as special illustrations. The SAR version is the Special Art Rare print that the shop lists as « MEGA Gengar ex SAR ». The number on the card, 230 or 240, tells you which one is in a photo or a listing.

How Does Mega Gengar ex Compare With Mega Dragonite ex in the Same Set?
Mega Gengar ex has 20 less HP than Mega Dragonite ex and a smaller listed attack, and its Ability reduces Prize cards where Dragonite’s is named Sky Carry. The numbers below come from their official card pages.
| Stat | Mega Gengar ex (230/193, MA icon) | Mega Dragonite ex (126/193) |
|---|---|---|
| Stage | Stage 2 | Stage 2 |
| HP | 350 | 370 |
| Ability | Shadow Veil (1 fewer Prize card when your Pokémon is Knocked Out by an opposing ex) | Sky Carry |
| Attack | Void Gale 230 | Ryunoglide 330 |
| Knock Out rule | Opponent takes 3 Prize cards | Opponent takes 3 Prize cards |
| Illustrator | Taiga Kasai | aky CG Works |
| Source | Card page | Card page |
Mega Dragonite ex lists 100 more damage on its attack than Mega Gengar ex (330 against 230), while Mega Gengar ex has the Shadow Veil text and the Energy-moving effect. The Dragonite page shows its rarity only as the RR icon, while the Gengar page shows the MA icon.
Collectors who pick between the two should decide by the card text and the version they want. In the shop’s PSA 10 range, the Gengar SAR sits beside Dragonite SAR and MA prints. We cover those next to Gengar in a short section further down.

Which Mega Gengar ex Mega Dream Card Should You Buy?
Buy the PSA 10 SAR 240/193 if you want a graded Mega Gengar ex slab from this set; it is the version our listings cover. If you specifically want the MA 230/193, that number is not among the Gengar listings we show, so the SAR slab is the Gengar option on the shop today.
Here is how to choose between the two PSA 10 listings and between graded and raw collecting:
- You want a graded display piece. A PSA 10 (Gem Mint) slab is a single graded card in a PSA case. The first Mega Gengar ex SAR listing and the second listing are the two to compare.
- You want to play Mega Gengar ex. The official card page gives you the full text to check before you buy anything.
- You want every Mega Dream ex Mega Evolution. The product page names Mega Charizard X ex, Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex as MA cards and lists Mega Dragonite ex among the new Mega Evolution ex cards; add Gengar by number, 230 or 240.
Both Gengar listings use the same title, the same number and the same grade, so the practical difference is the individual slab. Open each product page to see the photos and decide.
What Does a PSA 10 Mega Gengar ex SAR Listing Actually Include?
A PSA 10 listing is a single graded card in a PSA case, graded Gem Mint, with the set, number and rarity in the title. The shop’s description for Mega Gengar ex reads: « MEGA Gengar ex No. 240/193, Set: Pack Haut de Gamme MEGA Dream ex, Rarity: SAR », graded PSA 10 (Gem Mint).
The product page adds one caution worth reading: the PSA case may have minor scratches or marks on its surface. If a flawless case matters to you for display, take that into account before ordering.
The shipping policy also has a PSA-specific clause. PSA graded cards may be offered through our other sales channels, and because orders from different channels can arrive almost at the same time, a PSA item shown online may already be sold before our team locks the allocation for your online order. Once your payment has cleared, the policy says we will secure the PSA graded card matching your order, even if additional sourcing is required, and dispatch may take longer in that situation. Check the delivery schedule shown or communicated for your order, since status updates follow whenever the schedule changes.
That means a PSA 10 slab is a different purchase from a sealed pack: it is one specific card, and the dispatch time depends on securing it. If you are comparing a slab with sealed products from the same set, our Mega Dream ex booster box buying guide covers the sealed side.
How Do Shipping and Payment Work for a Mega Gengar ex Order?
Orders ship by FedEx, and most are processed within 5 business days after PayPal or Wise payment has cleared. All payments are made in Japanese yen. These terms are from our shipping policy and payment methods page.
| Topic | What the policy says |
|---|---|
| Standard shipping | FedEx International Connect Plus with tracking; usually 3-7 business days after dispatch (an estimate, not a guarantee) |
| Expedited shipping | FedEx International Priority with tracking; usually 2-5 business days after dispatch (an estimate, not a guarantee) |
| Shipping cost | Calculated automatically at checkout from your delivery address |
| Handling time | Most orders processed and shipped within 5 business days after PayPal or Wise payment has cleared; an estimate, not a guarantee |
| Minimum order | None |
| Adresse | FedEx cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes; provide a physical address |
| Wise | Bank transfer with no payment processing fee |
| PayPal and cards | A 5% payment processing fee applies; cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB) are paid through PayPal |
Two points matter for a slab. First, the transit estimates start after dispatch and do not include handling time, weekends, Japanese national holidays or customs processing. Second, once an order is with FedEx, customs inspections, import procedures, peak-season congestion or weather can delay delivery, and the policy states that these transit delays do not by themselves create a right to cancel or refund after dispatch.
Wise has its own deadlines: without a screenshot, an order is cancelled automatically if payment has not arrived within 12 hours, or 3 hours when the order contains a pre-order item. With a screenshot uploaded within 5 days, the order price is held for a total of 10 days from placing the order. Those windows are on the payment page, so read them before choosing Wise. If you pay by SWIFT, add JPY 611 to your order total for the receiving fee.
PayPal payment is completed immediately through PayPal at checkout, and cards are entered in PayPal’s own secure window. Wise is the only method without the 5% payment processing fee.
Which Other Mega Dream ex Cards Sit Next to Mega Gengar ex?
The shop’s PSA 10 range for this set also includes Mega Dragonite ex, Mega Gardevoir ex, Dustox, Misdreavus and N’s Zekrom, so Gengar can be bought alongside them. This is a short list, not the full set.
- MEGA Dragonite ex MA 232/193 and SAR 246/193, with listings such as this MA slab and this SAR slab.
- MEGA Gardevoir ex MA 226/193, listed here.
- Dustox AR 195/193 and Misdreavus AR 202/193, both at AR rarity (Dustox, Misdreavus).
- N’s Zekrom AR 210/193, one of the archetype reprint names on the product page (listing).

Is There an English Version of Mega Gengar ex Mega Dream?
No English edition of Mega Dream ex appears in the official Pokémon sources we use, and the English set that shares its Mega Evolution theme is a different product. Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes is a separate expansion that released on January 30, 2026, per the official English page.
That English page lists over 290 cards, over 30 Trainer cards and features Mega Dragonite ex, but it does not mention Gengar, and neither does the announcement article. So if you are searching for Mega Gengar ex, the Japanese M2a set is where the card is documented. If you want to compare the Japanese set with the English one, our articles on Ascended Heroes boxes vs Japanese Mega Dream ex and MEGA x MEGA Parade vs Mega Dream ex go through the differences.
What Should You Check Before Buying Mega Gengar ex?
Check the card number, the rarity and the grade, in that order, before you buy any Mega Gengar ex from Mega Dream ex. These three details separate the MA from the SAR and a slab from a raw card.
- Number. 230/193 is the MA version on the official card page. 240/193 is the SAR version on our listings.
- Rarity. MA stands for Mega Attack Rare, the rarity new to this set. SAR is Special Art Rare. AR is Art Rare, which does not apply to Gengar in the sources here.
- Grade. PSA 10 is Gem Mint. The listing title carries the grade, and the description notes that the case may show minor scratches or marks.
- Edition. This is the Japanese edition. Card text on the official page is in Japanese; the English names in this guide are the established translations used on our product listings.
- Delivery. Read the handling and transit estimates above, and give a physical address, since FedEx does not deliver to P.O. Boxes.
If you have not bought Japanese cards before, the policy also says you can change your shipping address yourself from My Account while an order is paid and its shipment is not yet scheduled; the destination country cannot be changed. If shipping to the new address costs more, you pay the difference before dispatch.
