The Card: Leafeon VSTAR 210/172 SAR
Leafeon VSTAR (リーフィアVSTAR) carries 260 HP as a Grass-type, and its 210/172 print is the SAR (Special Art Rare) alt-art from VSTAR Universe. The card number tells you where it sits: s12a’s main numbered run stops at 172, so a print numbered 210 belongs to the set’s secret, alternate-art tier rather than the base numbered set.
The SAR was illustrated by Jiro Sasumo. Its English equivalent is Crown Zenith’s Galarian Gallery card GG35 — more on how the two line up in the Japanese vs English section below.
As with most VSTAR-mechanic alt-arts, the SAR treatment replaces the standard card frame with full-bleed illustration work, pushing the HP, attack text and VSTAR Power into a redesigned layout around Sasumo’s artwork. The underlying stats — 260 HP, Grass typing — are identical to the plain promo print covered next; only the frame, illustrator and rarity differ.

Three Japanese prints of Leafeon VSTAR are documented: a base Triple Rare from VSTAR Universe, the SAR alt-art covered above from the same set, and a plain promo stamp. No other Japanese Leafeon VSTAR print has turned up.
VSTAR Universe 012/172 Triple Rare
The base print, illustrated by PLANETA Hiiragi — a different illustrator from both the SAR and the promo stamp. It carries the same 260 HP Grass-type stat line and sits inside s12a’s regular 172-card numbering, distinguishing it from the 210/172 SAR’s secret-rare slot.

Sword & Shield Promotional Cards SP 269
The promo print carries the same 260 HP and Grass typing as the other two, but sits in a standard promo-stamp frame illustrated by 5ban Graphics rather than Sasumo’s alt-art or PLANETA Hiiragi’s base artwork.

VSTAR Universe is a Japanese Pack Haut de Gamme — set code s12a — released 2 December 2022. Its main numbered run covers 172 cards; the full checklist, once every secret rare is added on top, extends to 262 (172 base cards plus 90 secret rares).

VSTAR Universe itself carries two Leafeon VSTAR prints — the base 012/172 Triple Rare and the 210/172 SAR — plus a separate Sword & Shield Promotional Cards promo stamp (SP 269) issued outside any booster set. Nothing in our records points to any further Japanese reprint of Leafeon VSTAR beyond these three.
Where This SAR Sits in Japan’s Chase-Rarity Tiers
SAR (Special Art Rare) is one of the alternate-art secret rarities Japanese high-class packs print above their main numbered set — it’s why this Leafeon VSTAR carries card number 210 despite VSTAR Universe’s base run stopping at 172. That places it in a different print tier from a standard-frame Pokemon V or VSTAR card, and in a different tier again from the plain promo-stamp Leafeon VSTAR covered above.

The three Leafeon VSTAR prints also come from two distribution channels — the base Triple Rare and the SAR were both pulled from VSTAR Universe booster packs, while the SP 269 promo was distributed separately as part of the Sword & Shield Promotional Cards line rather than from a booster product. That’s a distribution difference, not a documented rarity ranking across all three.
