Suicune ex (スイクンex) is only one of the card types that carry the スイクン name. A collector who types the name into a search box meets plain Suicune cards, Suicune V, Suicune GX, the Suicune ex of Pokémon Card Game Classic, and a pair of two-card LEGEND prints, and each of them is built on a different rule. This guide separates the five, using the official Japanese card text wherever the official database has the card, and saying so where it does not.
The scope is deliberately narrow: what each type is, what the card text says it does, and which of our listings match it. There are no meta or tournament claims here, because the card text is the only source we use for rules. Figures convert at ¥154/USD, approximate.
- The official database holds 25 Suicune entries: plain Suicune, Suicune V, Suicune GX and two LEGEND pairs. It holds no Suicune ex and no Suicune EX.
- The Suicune V, GX and LEGEND cards in the database each print their own rule line: when the Pokémon is Knocked Out, the opponent takes 2 Prize cards. The Classic Suicune ex has no database entry, so its rules are not described here beyond its attack name, クリスタルブラスト.
- Our Classic listing « PSA10 Suicune ex [CLK 010/032] » is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥8,999 (~$58), and the V SAR [s12a 215/172] at ¥18,620 (~$121).
The Five Suicune Types de cartes at a Glance
The table lists one example of each type and the rule line it prints, copied from the official card text and rendered in English. The « rule line » is the 特別なルール section, the part of a card that tells you what happens when it is Knocked Out.
| Type | Example | HP | Rule line printed on the card (rendering) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain Suicune | S4a 033/190 (so-taro) | 120 | None printed |
| Suicune V | S12a 024/172 and 215/172 | 210 | When a Pokémon V is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards |
| Suicune GX | SM8 028/095 and 098/095 (5ban Graphics) | 180 | When a Pokémon GX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards |
| Suicune ex | Classic deck card; our listing names it CLK 010/032 | Not in the database | Not in our sources |
| Suicune LEGEND | L2-B 065/080 and 066/080, Suicune & Entei LEGEND (Shinji Higuchi) | 160 | Combine the two cards and play them to the Bench; when Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards |
A sixth spelling, Suicune EX with a capital EX, has no Suicune card in the official database. It is covered in its own section because the Entei and Raikou versions exist and the two spellings are easy to confuse.
Plain Suicune: No Rule Box
A plain Suicune has no V, GX, ex or LEGEND in its name and prints no rule line. (Our Amazing Rare guide makes the same observation for the nine rule-box-free Basics it covers: 1 Prize card.) Among the plain prints the official database lists are these, grouped by identical printed text, each with the Pokédex entry « No.245 オーロラポケモン »:
| Set and number | Illustrator | HP | Attacks (rendering) |
|---|---|---|---|
| S3 016/100, S4a 033/190, S-P 150/S-P | so-taro | 120 | スプラッシュ: 20 damage. オーロラループ: 130 damage; choose 2 Energy attached to this Pokémon and return them to your hand |
| M2 026/080 | Takeshi Nakamura | 130 | クリスタルフォール: 30 damage, plus 90 more if you have 4 or more Energy in play |
| MC 174/742, SVM 031/175, SV-P 194/SV-P | Kuroimori | 120 | かけぬける: 30 damage, and 30 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon (no Weakness or Resistance on Bench damage). オーロラビーム: 100 damage |
| XY9-B 020/080, XYP 205/XY-P | Mitsuhiro Arita | 120 | Ability かぜのまもり: while this Pokémon is in the Active Spot, your Pokémon are not affected by the effects of your opponent’s attacks (effects already applied remain). オーロラビーム: 110 damage |
The M2 card belongs to the set released on Friday, September 26, 2025, per our Suicune Japanese cards guide, which walks through these prints one set at a time. Many of the plain cards above share one attack line, and the table groups them for that reason; the grouping is by identical printed text in the official database, not by rarity.
Why the name matters for deck building
The official rules page says a deck may contain up to four cards with the same name (「同じ名前のカードは4枚まで。」) and uses ピカチュウ and ピカチュウex as an example of two different names. Applying that wording to this trio is our reading, not an official statement: スイクン and スイクンV are different names, so their four-copy limits are counted separately. The same page puts the deck at 60 cards. The detail that matters when you shop is therefore simple: a plain Suicune and a Suicune V are not interchangeable cards, and their listings should not be treated as one.
Suicune V: Five Prints, One Rule Line
Suicune V is a Basic Pokémon V with HP 210. All five database entries print the same ability and attack, and the rule line gives the opponent 2 Prize cards when a Pokémon V is Knocked Out.
| Set and number | Illustrator | Note |
|---|---|---|
| S7D 001/067 | Ayaka Yoshida | Skyscraping Perfection, 2021 |
| S7D 068/067 | Ayaka Yoshida | Numbered above the set’s 067 |
| S12a 024/172 | Ayaka Yoshida | VSTAR Universe |
| S12a 215/172 | Atsushi Furusawa | Numbered above the set’s 172; our listing names it SAR (as our listing names it) |
| SI 092/414 | Ayaka Yoshida | Start Deck 100 |
The card text, rendered from the printed Japanese (rendering):
| Name (as printed) | Type | Effect, rendered |
|---|---|---|
| しゅんそく | Ability | Once during your turn, if this Pokémon is in the Active Spot, draw 1 card from your deck. |
| ブリザードロンド | Attack | 20 damage, plus 20 more for each Benched Pokémon on both sides. |

S12a is the set our Entei article dates to Friday, December 2, 2022. The 215/172 print is the one our listing carries: « PSA10 Suicune V SAR [s12a 215/172] (Pack Haut de Gamme « VSTAR Universe ») », offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥18,620 (~$121) — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms. The illustrator is covered in Atsushi Furusawa’s Pokémon card artist guide, and the S7D prints are in our Skyscraping Perfection card list. The S12a prints sit on our S12a card list page.

Suicune GX: Ability, Attacks and a Once-Per-Game Move
Suicune GX has HP 180 and two database entries, SM8 028/095 and SM8 098/095, both credited to 5ban Graphics. Our legendary beasts guide dates SM8 to Friday, September 7, 2018. The 098/095 number sits above the set’s 095, and the official database prints no rarity letter for either card.
| Name (as printed) | Type | Effect, rendered (rendering) |
|---|---|---|
| げんえいのかぜ | Ability | While this Pokémon is on your Bench, you may use this once during your turn: shuffle this Pokémon and all cards attached to it into your deck. |
| キュアストリーム | Attack, 120 | During your opponent’s next turn, damage from attacks used by the Pokémon that took this attack is reduced by 30. |
| ブライニクルGX | GX attack, 150 | Switch this Pokémon with one of your Benched Pokémon. You can use only one GX attack per game. |

The GX rule line mirrors the V one: when a Pokémon GX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards. What the GX type adds is the GX attack with its once-per-game limit, which the V type does not have.
Both prints are on our site as PSA 10 back orders, with the rarity letters coming from our listing names: « PSA10 Suicune GX RR [SM8 028/095] » at ¥10,499 (~$68) and « PSA10 Suicune GX SR [SM8 098/095] » at ¥33,786 (~$219). Both are sourced to order; each product page shows the current terms.
S4a is the set of the plain Suicune 033/190 and the 221/190 print (Kagemaru Himeno) in the database. It is a route to the plain type, not to the GX cards above.
Suicune ex: The Classic Card and the Older ex Cards
The Suicune ex in this guide is the card in Pokémon Card Game Classic. The official Classic page describes it as a new card in the カメックス&スイクンexデッキ, the Water deck, with an attack called クリスタルブラスト. Classic is a ¥35,000 (official price, tax included) boxed set from nendo, Creatures Inc. and The Pokémon Company with three 60-card decks, sold by lottery through Pokémon Center Online in 2023. Our Pokémon Card Game Classic guide describes it as a standalone ruleset and the Suicune ex as a new-artwork card, while the starter cards in the decks reuse 1996 illustrations.
The card itself has no entry in the official card database. Because of that, this guide can quote only two things for it: the attack name クリスタルブラスト and our listing name. Its HP, illustrator, full card text and prize rule are not stated in our sources, and the Classic ruleset is described as standalone, so no V or GX rule is carried over to it.
| Detail of the Classic Suicune ex | Status in our sources |
|---|---|
| Deck | カメックス&スイクンexデッキ, the Water deck (official Classic page) |
| Attack | クリスタルブラスト (official Classic page) |
| Card number | CLK 010/032, as our listing names it |
| Official database entry | None |
| HP, illustrator, prize rule, full text | Not stated |

Our listing is « PSA10 Suicune ex [CLK 010/032] (Pokemon Card Game Classic) », offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥8,999 (~$58) — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms. The card has its own guide at Suicune ex CLK 010/032: Pokémon Card Game Classic guide.
Rocket’s Suicune ex from the 2003 to 2005 EX era
The name also existed on an older card. Our legendary beasts guide lists Rocket’s Suicune ex in EX Team Rocket Returns as #105/109 in English numbering, and the same era has Rocket’s Entei ex and Entei ex. These are pre-database cards, so there is no official card text here, and the guide’s numbers are English numbering. Do not assume they play like the Classic card.
The modern ex rule line, as printed on another beast
For the current spelling, the official database shows the rule line on the Raikou ex 024/076 (M6 Storm Emeralda, aky CG Works, HP 200): when a Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards (rendering). That is one card’s text, quoted only to show how the spelling reads. It is not a statement about the Classic Suicune ex.
ex or EX: Two Spellings, Two Eras
Capital EX and lower-case ex are different printings in different eras, and the database separates them. There is no Suicune EX in the database. The Entei and Raikou versions exist, and a plain Suicune from the same period names the type in its text.
| Carte | Set and number | HP | What the printed text says (rendering) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entei EX | BW4-B 009/069 (shizurow) | 180 | When a Pokémon EX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards |
| Raikou EX | BW4-B 025/069 (shizurow) | 170 | When a Pokémon EX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards |
| Suicune (plain) | KK 004/018 (kawayoo) | 100 | Ability しんぴのまもり: this Pokémon takes no damage or effects from attacks of Pokémon EX. Attack オーロラビーム: 70 damage |
The Suicune in the last row is a plain card, not an EX. Its ability text names Pokémon EX; that is the only link to the type. Our Entei cards guide covers the Entei EX in detail.
Suicune LEGEND: Two Cards, One Pokémon
A LEGEND is printed as two physical cards, a top half (上) and a bottom half (下), that are combined in play. Suicune appears in two of the three LEGEND pairs, both from the L2-B expansion, which our legendary beasts guide dates to Thursday, February 11, 2010 (Reviving Legends). Shinji Higuchi is the illustrator credited in the official database for both.

| Pair | Numbers | HP | Attacks (rendering) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suicune & Entei LEGEND (スイクン&エンテイLEGEND) | L2-B 065/080 (top) and 066/080 (bottom) | 160 | げきりゅうのやいば: return 2 Energy attached to this Pokémon to your hand, and 100 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon (no Weakness or Resistance on Bench damage). バーストインフェルノ: 80 damage, and your opponent’s Active Pokémon is Burned |
| Raikou & Suicune LEGEND (ライコウ&スイクンLEGEND) | L2-B 067/080 (top) and 068/080 (bottom) | 160 | らいでんのやり: 150 damage; this Pokémon also takes 50 damage, and damage to this Pokémon does not use Weakness. オーロラゲイン: 50, and this Pokémon heals 50 HP |
Both pairs print the same special rule: combine the two matching LEGEND cards from your hand and play them to the Bench, and when the combined Pokémon is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards. The cards also state that the top and bottom halves are used together. The third pair in the set, Entei & Raikou LEGEND, is L2-B 063/080 and 064/080.
The numbers above come from the official database. Our Pokémon LEGEND cards guide explains the format in general: the earliest LEGENDs split one Pokémon across two cards for one Prize, and the later « & » LEGENDs give two. All three beast pairs are collected in The Three Legendary-Beast LEGEND Cards. We do not currently list a Suicune LEGEND.
How to Read Which Type You Hold
Check the name line and the bottom of the card. The table works from what is visible to the type.
| What the card shows | Type | Quick reading |
|---|---|---|
| スイクン only, no rule line | Plain | No rule line printed |
| スイクンV, HP 210, a 特別なルール line naming Pokémon V | V | 2 Prize cards when Knocked Out |
| スイクンGX, HP 180, a GX attack with a once-per-game limit | GX | 2 Prize cards when Knocked Out |
| スイクンex with a Classic number such as CLK 010/032 | Classic ex | No database entry; check the card itself |
| 伝説, HP 160, « & » in the name, a 上 or 下 label | LEGEND | Needs its matching half; 2 Prize cards when Knocked Out |
Numbers above the set’s printed total, such as 215/172 or 098/095, mark the secret-numbered prints of the same type; the type itself is decided by the name line and the rule line, not by the number.
Why Suicune Is in the News
On October 29, 2026 premium.gamepedia.jp and PokeGuardian reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「オーロラの波紋」 (working English translation: Aurora Ripples; no official English name exists), which collectors read as a possible Suicune set; nothing is announced. Our Suicune trademark explainer explains what is confirmed and what is not.

Foire aux questions
What is a Suicune ex card?
The Suicune ex in Pokémon Card Game Classic is a card in the カメックス&スイクンexデッキ with an attack called クリスタルブラスト. It has no entry in the official card database, so its HP, illustrator and prize rule are not stated in our sources. Our listing names it CLK 010/032.
What is the difference between Suicune V and Suicune GX?
Suicune V has HP 210, an ability that draws a card once per turn from the Active Spot, and one attack. Suicune GX has HP 180, a Bench ability, an attack and a GX attack that can be used once per game. Both print the same kind of rule line: 2 Prize cards when Knocked Out.
How many Prize cards does a LEGEND Suicune give up?
The Suicune & Entei LEGEND (L2-B 065/080 and 066/080) and the Raikou & Suicune LEGEND (067/080 and 068/080) both print that your opponent takes 2 Prize cards when the combined Pokémon is Knocked Out.
Is there a Suicune EX with a capital EX?
Not in the official database. The database holds an Entei EX (BW4-B 009/069) and a Raikou EX (BW4-B 025/069), and the only Suicune that mentions EX is a plain Suicune (KK 004/018) whose ability protects it from Pokémon EX.
How are the two halves of a LEGEND card used?
You combine the two matching LEGEND cards from your hand and play them to the Bench as one Pokémon. The top half (上) and bottom half (下) are used together, and the card text says so directly.
How much is the Classic Suicune ex listed at?
Our listing « PSA10 Suicune ex [CLK 010/032] » is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥8,999 (~$58), sourced to order. The product page shows the current terms.
