GOSSAN’s Pokemon TCG debut came on VMAX Climax. The initial GOSSAN trio — Galarian Obstagoon, Crobat V, and Piers — leaned into the Team Yell cast, and four years later GOSSAN is the illustrator behind two of the game’s Team Rocket-branded chase cards.
Since that 2021 debut, GOSSAN’s catalog has grown to 99 Japanese-language prints in the Limitless database, spanning a VSTAR Universe Special Art Rare, a Pokemon Card 151 alternate art, and two of the newest Team Rocket cards in the game. This guide covers who GOSSAN is and walks through seven notable prints — we don’t currently hold a graded GOSSAN single in stock, so we’ve built the guide around sourcing routes instead: the VSTAR Universe set that produced the artist’s Mewtwo, and Quick Order for the rest.
GOSSAN debuted in the Pokemon TCG on VMAX Climax (2021) illustrating Galarian Obstagoon, Crobat V, and Piers, and has since illustrated 99 Japanese-language cards per the Limitless database — including the Mewtwo VSTAR SAR (221/172, VSTAR Universe) and Team Rocket’s Petrel SR (122/098, Glory of Team Rocket, 2025). We don’t hold a graded GOSSAN single right now — the VSTAR Universe Booster Box (currently ¥33,280) is the direct route to the Mewtwo VSTAR SAR, and Ordine rapido covers sourcing requests for the other six prints below.
Card details and set dates below are sourced from the Limitless TCG Japanese database as of August 2026. GOSSAN cards are not currently in our graded inventory — sourcing routes are noted for each print.
Who Is GOSSAN?
GOSSAN made an official Pokemon TCG debut on VMAX Climax (S8b) in 2021. Per Bulbapedia, the initial GOSSAN cards in that set were Galarian Obstagoon, Crobat V, and Piers — a lineup drawn from the set’s Team Yell and Dark-type-adjacent cast. In the years since, GOSSAN’s catalog has grown to 99 Japanese-language prints in the Limitless database, including reprints.
GOSSAN maintains an X (formerly Twitter) account under the handle @OccultGarage53, per Bulbapedia.
GOSSAN’s run since that debut has leaned repeatedly into Team Rocket-adjacent subjects — Crobat V and Galarian Obstagoon at debut, and years later Team Rocket’s Petrel and Team Rocket’s Mimikyu, both covered below. Between those two eras sit a VSTAR Universe Special Art Rare, a Pokemon Card 151 alternate art, and a Heat Wave Arena Gym Leader card, which together give the seven prints in this guide a spread across four years and roughly as many rarity tiers — from a base Rare up to a Character Super Rare.
For other illustrator profiles from our vault, see our sowsow guide and our AKIRA EGAWA guide, which covers a similar pattern of a single illustrator anchoring a set’s secret-rare run.
The Debut Era: Crobat V CSR (VMAX Climax)

The Crobat V Character Super Rare at 243/184 is one of GOSSAN’s first three Pokemon TCG cards, released in VMAX Climax (S8b) on December 3, 2021. Bulbapedia lists it alongside Galarian Obstagoon and Piers as GOSSAN’s initial credited cards.
Crobat V is one of GOSSAN’s three debut cards, per Bulbapedia, and having a Character Super Rare credit from an artist’s very first set is a notable starting point for a catalog that would go on to include VSTAR Universe and two Team Rocket headline cards.
A full breakdown of the set’s pull structure and the rest of its CSR lineup is in our VMAX Climax set guide.
VSTAR Universe: Mewtwo VSTAR SAR (221/172)

GOSSAN’s Mewtwo VSTAR Special Art Rare at 221/172 comes from VSTAR Universe (S12a), released December 2, 2022. It’s the highest-rarity print covered in this guide, and the artist’s other SAR credits from the same theme run are covered in our VSTAR Universe set guide, which also covers the Regigigas VSTAR SAR by Aya Kusube and the Hisuian Samurott VSTAR SAR by Shibuzoh.
Mewtwo’s VSTAR form and its long-running status as one of the franchise’s most recognizable Legendary Pokemon make this the natural centerpiece of GOSSAN’s catalog even without a graded copy in our vault — VSTAR Universe’s Special Art Rare tier is built specifically around full-scene illustrations of exactly this kind, and Mewtwo drew one of its highest-profile slots.
We don’t hold a graded Mewtwo VSTAR SAR single in stock. The direct sourcing route is a sealed VSTAR Universe booster box, where SAR pulls come from.
Pokemon Card 151: Snorlax AR (181/165)

GOSSAN’s Snorlax Art Rare at 181/165 is from Pokemon Card 151 (SV2a), released June 16, 2023 — the set that reintroduced the original 151 Kanto Pokemon in the alternate-art format that reshaped the modern Japanese market. Our Pokemon Card 151 set guide covers the full AR checklist.
Snorlax is one of the seven confirmed GOSSAN prints in this guide, and it isn’t currently in our graded vault — sourcing runs through the Pokemon Card 151 box above or a Quick Order request.
The Team Rocket Run: Petrel SR & Mimikyu AR
Nearly four years after the Team Yell-flavored VMAX Climax debut, GOSSAN’s two newest headline prints both carry the Team Rocket name directly. Team Rocket’s Petrel is a Secret Rare at 122/098 from Glory of Team Rocket (SV10), released April 18, 2025 — a set built entirely around the Team Rocket trainer roster, detailed in our Glory of Team Rocket set guide.
Team Rocket’s Mimikyu is an Art Rare at 205/193 from Mega Dream ex (M2a), a high-class pack released November 28, 2025 — GOSSAN’s newest set credit on our checklist. Our Mega Dream ex set guide covers the full AR run.
Both cards carry the “Team Rocket’s” naming convention used across these sets to mark a Pokemon or trainer as part of the organization’s roster, and they landed within about seven months of each other in 2025 — making this the most concentrated stretch of Team Rocket subject matter in GOSSAN’s catalog to date.
Neither print is in our graded inventory yet. Both are newer releases, so a Quick Order sourcing flag is currently the fastest route to either card.
Two More Recent Prints: Misty’s Gyarados & Riolu AR

Misty’s Gyarados is a Rare from Heat Wave Arena (SV9a), released March 14, 2025. It sits at a lower rarity than the SAR and Secret Rare prints elsewhere on this checklist, making it one of the more accessible entries for anyone building out a full GOSSAN set rather than chasing a single centerpiece.
Riolu is an Art Rare at 68/063 from Mega Brave (M1L), released August 1, 2025 — a companion release to Mega Symphonia, which our Mega Brave set guide covers alongside its box-comparison partner set. Between Misty’s Gyarados and Riolu, GOSSAN’s 2025 output alone spans a base Rare, an Art Rare, and the two Team Rocket cards covered above — four different release windows in a single calendar year.
GOSSAN Card Checklist
Seven GOSSAN prints, spanning a 2021 debut through a 2025 high-class pack:
| Carta | Set | Rarity | Release |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crobat V (243/184) | VMAX Climax (S8b) | CSR | 2021-12-03 |
| Mewtwo VSTAR (221/172) | VSTAR Universe (S12a) | SAR | 2022-12-02 |
| Snorlax (181/165) | Pokemon Card 151 (SV2a) | AR | 2023-06-16 |
| Misty’s Gyarados (#26) | Heat Wave Arena (SV9a) | Rare | 2025-03-14 |
| Team Rocket’s Petrel (122/098) | Glory of Team Rocket (SV10) | SR | 2025-04-18 |
| Riolu (68/063) | Mega Brave (M1L) | AR | 2025-08-01 |
| Team Rocket’s Mimikyu (205/193) | Mega Dream ex (M2a) | AR | 2025-11-28 |
None of these seven are currently in our graded inventory. Read top to bottom, the checklist traces GOSSAN’s arc from a Team Yell-era debut through a mainstream VSTAR chase card and a Kanto alternate art, into a run of newer, more overtly Team Rocket-branded releases — for any of the seven, a Quick Order sourcing request is the route we can act on directly.
