Mewtwo has been reprinted more times than almost any other Pokémon in the franchise, so when someone asks for “the Mewtwo AR,” the card number is the only thing that actually answers the question. In Pokémon Card 151 (SV2a), that number is 183/165.
Mewtwo AR (183/165) is the Art Rare Mewtwo from Pokémon Card 151 (SV2a), the Japanese set released 16 June 2023 that reimagined the original 151 with full-scene “Art Rare” illustrations. This guide covers how to identify the card correctly, where it sits in the SV2a print run, how the AR rarity tier compares to the set’s base cards, why it shouldn’t be confused with other Mewtwo printings, and where to see our own PSA 10 graded copy.
If you’re comparing listings across different marketplaces, the card number is doing all the identification work here — the same character, the same rough era, and even the same “151” branding show up on multiple unrelated products, so treating “183/165” as the single confirming detail will save you from buying the wrong print.
Mewtwo AR 183/165 is the Art Rare Mewtwo from Pokémon Card 151 (SV2a), a Japanese set released 16 June 2023 with a print run of 210 cards total. It is a separate printing from the various Mega Mewtwo ex and Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex cards — those are different sets and different card frames entirely. A PSA 10 graded copy is currently listed at ¥16,056 (~$101 at ¥159/USD) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order).
Prices are our own current listing as of September 2026, converted at ¥159/USD.
Identifying Mewtwo AR 183/165
The card you’re looking for is printed as Mewtwo, card #183, Pokémon Card 151 (SV2a), and carries the “AR” — Art Rare — rarity marking. Everything that confirms the card is on the card itself: the number in the bottom corner, the SV2a set symbol, and the AR rarity mark.
Art Rare cards in this set replace the standard battle-pose frame with a full-scene illustration, so they’re easy to spot at a glance once you know the layout — but the printed number is still the detail to check before you buy or sell, since “Mewtwo” alone covers dozens of unrelated cards across different eras. Our own PSA 10 graded copy of this exact card is listed at ¥16,056 (~$101 at ¥159/USD) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order).
Where It Sits in Pokémon Card 151 (SV2a)
Pokémon Card 151 (SV2a) is the Japanese set built around the original 151 Pokémon, released 16 June 2023. The set’s full print run totals 210 cards. Mewtwo at #183 falls within the higher end of that run, alongside the set’s other AR-tier chase cards.
Mewtwo and Pikachu are the two most-requested Art Rare prints from this release, and both carry the same “/165” denominator printed on the card. That denominator is the number printed on the card itself; we won’t speculate beyond that on how the set’s internal numbering was decided, since it isn’t something we can point to a citable breakdown for. For the complete numbered checklist, see our Pokémon 151 Japanese card list, and for the sealed side of the set, our Pokémon 151 booster box buying guide.
What Makes an AR (Art Rare) a Chase Card
Mewtwo’s card is marked AR — Art Rare — a rarity tier that swaps the standard card frame for a full-scene illustration. Compare that treatment against a base-set card from the same release, such as Gyarados:
And against a common, such as Magikarp:
Where the Rare and Common cards use the standard frame and a simple pose, the Art Rare treatment given to Mewtwo at #183 uses a full-bleed illustration — the visual difference collectors are chasing when they specifically ask for the “AR” print rather than any other Mewtwo card. We won’t state a pull-rate figure here since it isn’t something we can verify to a citable source; our SV2a Pokémon 151 pull rates and best cards article covers what’s publicly reported on that front.
Don’t Confuse It With Mega Mewtwo ex or Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex
Mewtwo is one of the most frequently reprinted characters in the entire card game, and Pokémon Card 151’s AR is only one small piece of that catalog. Two categories worth keeping separate from this card:
- Mega Mewtwo ex printings — a different character stage (Mega Evolution) across different sets and eras from this SV2a Art Rare. Our Mega Mewtwo ex cards guide covers that lineup separately.
- Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex — another distinct printing with its own set and card frame, covered in our Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex guide.
If you want the wider picture of Mewtwo prints and how they rank against each other, our top Mewtwo cards guide and Mewtwo ex value guide cover those separately from this page, which stays focused on the single Pokémon Card 151 AR print at 183/165. When you’re checking a listing against this guide, the fastest confirmation is still the printed set code and number — SV2a and 183/165 — rather than the character name or artwork style alone.
Why Look at This Card Graded PSA 10
Art Rare cards from Pokémon Card 151 use the same full-bleed illustration style that makes edge and surface wear easy to spot on a raw copy — the same reason grading matters for other AR prints from this set, including the set’s Pikachu AR at #173.
A PSA 10 slab settles the condition question before the card changes hands: what you see in the case is the graded state, not a raw copy you have to inspect yourself for corner and edge wear under a full-bleed illustration. One such copy is currently listed: PSA 10 Mewtwo 183/165 AR, at ¥16,056 (~$101 at ¥159/USD) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order).
