The database credits this entry to an unusually large illustrator group: 5ban Graphics, Taira Akitsu, Hitoshi Ariga, Mitsuhiro Arita, AKIRA EGAWA, OOYAMA, kawayoo, Naoyo Kimura, kirisAki, Tomokazu Komiya, Kouki Saitou, Naoki Saito, Sanosuke Sakuma, Jiro Sasumo, Narumi Sato, Shibuzoh., sui, sowsow, Miki Tanaka, Saya Tsuruta, Atsuko Nishida, Yuu Nishida, Kagemaru Himeno, Masakazu Fukuda and Ryota Murayama — 25 names on a single card, several of whom also illustrate individual S8a cards elsewhere in this set. The official 25th anniversary site puts the same figure in words: the card is 「25名のイラストレーターによって描かれた」, drawn by 25 illustrators. Its detail page shows only S8a’s own expansion logo mark; no G, H or I regulation-mark letter is printed on it.

This database entry lists four attacks, in order: Union Gain (ユニオンゲイン, one Colorless Energy) — choose up to 2 Energy cards from your discard pile and attach them to this Pokémon; Tingling Shock (ビリビリショック, one Lightning and one Colorless Energy, 120 damage) — flip a coin, and if heads, your opponent’s Active Pokémon is now Paralyzed; Electromagnetic Interference (でんじしょうがい, two Lightning and one Colorless Energy, 150 damage) — during your opponent’s next turn, they can’t play Item cards from their hand; and Everyone’s Electro Ball (みんなでエレキボール, two Lightning and one Colorless Energy, 250 damage), listed with no secondary effect text.
The card’s special rules state that, once during the game, on your turn, you may combine the four different Pikachu V-UNION cards in your discard pile and put the combined Pokémon onto your Bench, and that when your Pokémon V-UNION is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 3 Prize cards. A further rule line spells out the assembly mechanic itself: a Pokémon V-UNION card is used by combining its “top-left,” “top-right,” “bottom-left” and “bottom-right” pieces.
Two of those four attacks share the same printed cost — two Lightning and one Colorless — and differ only in what they do: 150 damage with Item lock for one turn, or 250 damage with nothing attached. Union Gain is the outlier, costing a single Colorless Energy and dealing no damage at all.
Where 025/028 Sits, and Why 026–028 Are Missing
Start from the numbering gap, because it is what makes this entry unusual. The top-left piece is the last of the 25 numbered S8a pages in the official card database, sitting immediately after Flying Pikachu VMAX (024/028), and nothing follows it in the numbered run — the eight Basic Energy pages that come next in the database carry no printed number at all. The set’s own official figure, 全28種類, is the denominator printed on every card number, including this one.
Given the special-rule text above, the obvious assumption is that S8a numbers 026/028, 027/028 and 028/028 are the top-right, bottom-left and bottom-right pieces of this same Pikachu V-UNION. The official card database does not state that. It contains exactly 25 numbered S8a pages, 001/028 through 025/028, and this one page is the only V-UNION entry among them. Whatever the other three pieces show, in card text or artwork, is not documented there, and this guide does not describe them.
That makes Pikachu V-UNION’s database footprint unusual within S8a: every other numbered card in the set has its own single, complete entry, while this one represents only one quarter of an in-game combined Pokémon, with the remaining three quarters absent from the official record.
Pikachu V-UNION Among S8a’s Other Pikachu Cards
S8a carries five other Pikachu-family V and VMAX cards — Pikachu V at 020/028, plus Surfing and Flying Pikachu V/VMAX at 021–024/028 — none of which use the V-UNION mechanic. Against those five, the V-UNION entry is the one that has to be assembled from the discard pile rather than played from hand or evolved from a Pokémon V, and its knock-out gives up three Prize cards, as the two VMAX cards’ do. Its 300 HP sits above Pikachu V’s 190 and Surfing Pikachu V’s 200, and just below the 310 printed on both Surfing Pikachu VMAX and Flying Pikachu VMAX.
