Both are Japan-only S-P Promotional prints handed out through a 2021 competitive campaign, and both share their character and VMAX artwork with cards released internationally in Evolving Skies — but not their actual print. Different illustrators, different rarity slot, different card. Vaporeon VMAX (S-P 187) and Flareon VMAX (S-P 186) are Japan-exclusive Full Art promos distributed through a 2021 lottery campaign, not a booster product. The 2021 Summer Pokemon Card Campaign: How It Worked
The Summer Pokemon Card Campaign was a Japan-only promotion that ran from 21 July to 30 September 2021. It had nothing to do with opening packs. To enter, a player played a match of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, then submitted an application through the Pokemon Card Game Trainers Website using their Player ID, an email address, and a deck code — one entry per person.
Every valid entrant went into a lottery. The prize was one of 3,000 sets of three Eeveelution VMAX cards: Vaporeon, Flareon, and — per Bulbapedia — Jolteon (we don’t hold a verified card number for the Jolteon promo in this campaign, so we’re not naming one here). Winners began receiving their sets in October 2021.
That distribution method is the entire reason these two cards exist as separate objects from their internationally-released Evolving Skies counterparts. They were never packed into a booster box in any market — they only ever left Japan in the hands of a lottery winner, or later, a collector who bought one secondhand.
Vaporeon VMAX (S-P Promo 187)
Card number 187/S-P, Water type, 320 HP, a Basic→VMAX line built in the Rapid Strike style. This specific Full Art S-P print is illustrated by Atsushi Furusawa — a different illustrator from the internationally-released Evolving Skies 30/203 Vaporeon VMAX, which uses 5ban Graphics artwork. Same Pokemon, same VMAX form, two different pieces of art.
A PSA 10 copy of this exact print is currently listed at ¥1,934,678 (~$12,167) (업데이트: 현재 품절 — Quick Order로 재입고 요청), plus a second PSA 10 copy of the same card at a different price point — ¥1,030,000 (~$6,479) (업데이트: 현재 품절 — Quick Order로 재입고 요청). Flareon VMAX (S-P Promo 186)
Card number 186/S-P, Fire type, also 320 HP, Basic→VMAX built in the Single Strike style, with the attack “Max Detonate.” The Full Art S-P print is illustrated by OKACHEKE, again distinct from the internationally-released Evolving Skies 18/203 Flareon VMAX, which uses 5ban Graphics artwork.

What Other Japan-Exclusive Promos Look Like
Neither of the two cards below is part of the Summer Pokemon Card Campaign or connected to Vaporeon and Flareon in any way. They’re different artworks of the same character and VMAX form. The JP S-P Full Art prints (187/S-P Vaporeon, 186/S-P Flareon) are illustrated by Atsushi Furusawa and OKACHEKE respectively. The internationally-released Evolving Skies prints (30/203 and 18/203) use 5ban Graphics artwork.
Can I get this exact Full Art artwork without importing from Japan?
The same Furusawa/OKACHEKE artwork was also used for English SWSH Black Star Promos, sold from 3 December 2021 inside US retail “Vaporeon VMAX Premium Collection” and “Flareon VMAX Premium Collection” boxes. It’s a different release and distribution channel from the Japan-only 2021 lottery campaign, even though the art matches.
Was there a third Eeveelution card in this campaign?
Per Bulbapedia, the winning set included a third Eeveelution VMAX card as well, but we don’t have a verified card number for that specific card, so we’re not naming one here.
