Most Pokemon get one card per set. Deoxys has twice been printed three or four times in a single set, on the same release day.
That pattern shows up twice in Deoxys’ Japanese TCG history: three separate Deoxys entries in SM7 “Charisma of the Ripped Sky,” and four in the current-era M4 “Ninja Spinner.” Add two TAG TEAM GX cards shared with Espeon, a VSTAR/VMAX pair from the VSTAR Universe set, and the older single prints in between, and you get a card history that’s unusually crowded for one Pokemon. Most collectors researching Deoxys run into these prints scattered across different set lists and checklists, with no single page walking through how they connect.
This guide walks through eight Japanese Deoxys printings so you can tell them apart — what set each one came from, what it does, and which one is currently listed in our own graded stock. We ship Japanese sealed product and singles worldwide from Tokyo, and the stock referenced here comes from that same catalog.
Eight Japanese Deoxys prints are covered here, spanning 2016–2026. Our own graded stock includes a PSA 10 Espeon & Deoxys GX SR 177/173 SA, currently listed at ¥146,466 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). If you’re chasing the set it belongs to, our SM12a Tag All Stars Booster Box is currently listed at ¥212,100.
The only priced items in this guide are our own current listings. Every other card below is covered for identification only — set, rarity, and release facts, not market value.
Every Deoxys Print Covered in This Guide
Eight Japanese Deoxys cards across seven sets, from a 2016 champion pack to a 2026 current-standard release:

| Deoxys | M4 31 | U | Ninja Spinner | 2026 |
The two TAG TEAM prints and the VSTAR Universe SAR pair are the ones most collectors are actually chasing; the rest are workable, identifiable singles from a Pokemon that has appeared across Japanese sets for a decade — from a 2016 champion pack insert through a 2026 current-standard release. The sections below cover each in order, starting with the pattern that makes Deoxys checklists longer than most.
One Pokemon, Multiple Cards in the Same Set
Deoxys shows up more than once per set with unusual regularity. SM7 “Charisma of the Ripped Sky” (2018) prints Deoxys at card number 44, but also carries two additional Deoxys entries at #42 and #43 in the same set — three Deoxys cards, one release. The current-era M4 “Ninja Spinner” (2026) goes further still, with four separate Deoxys cards running #31 through #34.
Both patterns are understood to track Deoxys’ different in-game formes, though the specific forme names printed on #42/#43 (SM7) and #32/#33/#34 (M4) haven’t been independently confirmed here — if you’re trying to identify a specific copy from either set, check the card number against a reference source rather than assuming which forme it is from artwork alone.
If you’re holding a Deoxys from SM7 or M4 and it doesn’t match the images in this guide (SM7 #44, M4 #31), it’s one of the sibling prints from the same set — not a misprint.
The Chase Print: Espeon & Deoxys GX SA, SM12a 177/173

Tag All Stars (SM12a, October 4, 2019) reprinted the Espeon & Deoxys GX TAG TEAM in its special art treatment at 177/173. It’s the same 260 HP Psychic TAG TEAM as the original SMM starter print — attack “Psycho Circle” (10 damage, +30 for each Psychic Pokemon on your bench) and the GX attack “Cross Division-GX” (place 10 damage counters however you like, or 20 with an extra Energy attached) — illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita.
Our copy is graded PSA 10 and is currently listed at ¥146,466 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). For background on how SA printings fit into the broader special art tier, see our Special Art (SA) Japanese cards guide.
Tag All Stars is a high-class pack built around TAG TEAM GX reprints, and the chase hierarchy for its top slots is covered separately in our SM12a Tag All Stars best cards guide.
The TAG TEAM Debut: SMM Starter Set

Before the SA reprint, Espeon & Deoxys GX debuted at card number 1 in the Tag Team GX Starter Set (SMM), released May 31, 2019. Same card text as the SA version above — Psycho Circle and Cross Division-GX — in the standard TAG TEAM GX frame rather than the special art treatment. It’s the print most collectors run into first, since it debuted in the starter set before the SA-tier reprint followed a few months later.
For more on how TAG TEAM GX pairings work across the format and where Espeon & Deoxys sits among them, see our best TAG TEAM GX cards guide and our dedicated Espeon cards guide.
Deoxys VSTAR and the VSTAR Universe SAR Pair
Deoxys got its VSTAR treatment in the VSTAR&VMAX High-Class Deck Deoxys (SPD, 2022) — a 270 HP Psychic VSTAR with the attack “Psycho Javelin” (190 damage, plus 60 to a Bench V Pokemon) and the VSTAR Power “Star Force,” which does 60 damage for every Energy attached across both active Pokemon. It’s a deck-exclusive print at SPD 7, illustrated by 5ban Graphics.
VSTAR Universe (s12a, December 2, 2022) then reprinted the VSTAR — along with its VMAX counterpart — as a matched SAR pair:
Deoxys VSTAR (223/172, SAR) is the same-text special art version of the SPD print above, illustrated by DOM. Deoxys VMAX (222/172, SAR), illustrated by Akira Komayama, is the VMAX form — 330 HP, the ability “Protect DNA” (reduces damage from an opponent’s VSTAR Pokemon attacks by 30), and the attack “Drain Raid” for 160 damage plus 30 HP recovered. The two share consecutive card numbers in the set, which is a useful way to spot the pair if you’re scanning a checklist.
Because VSTAR and VMAX are two different evolution stages of the same Deoxys line rather than alternate art of one card, both are worth tracking separately if you’re building a complete run — a VSTAR-only or VMAX-only search will each turn up half of the SAR pair.
Earlier Singles: SM7 and CP4
Two older prints round out the pre-VSTAR era of Deoxys cards:
![Deoxys [CP4 56] (EX x MEGA x BREAK Champion Pack)](https://samuraiswordtokyo.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/img_deoxys_cp4_56_r_jp_976d1c39c843-1.webp)
SM7 #44 (Charisma of the Ripped Sky, 2018) is a 100 HP Psychic uncommon with “Teleport Break” (switch with a benched Pokemon) and “Spear Dive” for 50 damage that ignores Weakness and Resistance, illustrated by Kouki Saitou. As covered above, it shares its set with two sibling Deoxys entries at #42 and #43.
CP4 #56 (EX x MEGA x BREAK Champion Pack, released April 16, 2016) is a 110 HP Psychic card with “First Contact” (draw 2 cards, usable only on your first turn) and “Over Smash” for 30 damage, boosted to 90 on the following turn, illustrated by kawayoo. It’s the oldest print covered in this guide.
The Current Era: M4 “Ninja Spinner”

Deoxys’ most recent Japanese print comes from M4 “Ninja Spinner,” released March 13, 2026, at card number 31. It’s a 110 HP Psychic uncommon with the ability “Genome Charge” (attach up to two basic Psychic Energy from your deck to this Pokemon) and the attack “Psychokinesis” for 80 damage plus 20 for each Energy attached to the opponent’s active Pokemon, illustrated by Shiburingaru. As covered in the section above, M4 carries four Deoxys entries in total (#31–34).
