Bartholomew Kuma has no confirmed Leader card. Across the seven printings covered in this guide, every single one is a Character card. If you’ve been hunting for a Kuma-led deck build, that search comes up empty for a reason.
This guide walks through the seven confirmed Bartholomew Kuma printings covered here in the Japanese One Piece Card Game, from his first starter-deck appearance through the 2026 RED/BLACK Sabo starter, and flags what is and isn’t confirmed for the upcoming OP-17 set. We source Japanese One Piece Card Game sealed product directly out of Tokyo, so every card discussed here ties back to a set we can point to.
One note before the breakdown: this guide covers only cards confirmed under the name Bartholomew Kuma. There are other characters in the card list with similar-sounding names from unrelated card codes — if a search result doesn’t match one of the seven codes below, it isn’t the same character.
Kuma is also a useful case study in how the game handles a character whose in-story role shifts dramatically across the timeline. He goes from Seven Warlords enforcer to a mostly-silenced Pacifista weapon to, in the Egghead arc, a figure the story treats very differently — and the card pool tracks that shift through typing and set placement rather than through a single defining Leader card the way some other Warlords get. That makes the printing-by-printing breakdown below more of a timeline than a simple rarity ranking.
This guide covers seven confirmed Bartholomew Kuma printings and zero confirmed Leader cards. His highest-rarity printing is the Secret Rare OP12-119 from OP12 Legacy of the Master, and his most recent card, ST35-005, comes from the 2026 RED/BLACK Sabo starter deck. For current Japanese sealed stock, the OP-17 The World’s Strongest Warriors booster box is currently listed at ¥28,000, pre-order, shipping on or after August 24.
Card data is drawn from the official OP card list and the LimitlessTCG card database as reviewed in August 2026. This guide does not include secondary-market pricing for Kuma singles — where we can quote a specific card, sourcing runs through our Quick Order page rather than standing stock.
Every Bartholomew Kuma Card at a Glance
The seven printings covered in this guide, confirmed across the official card list and the LimitlessTCG card database, are all Character cards — no Leader, no confirmed comic parallel:
| Code | Rarity | Set | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| ST03-010 | Common | ST03 The Seven Warlords of the Sea | Character (Blue) |
| OP01-074 | Rare | OP01 Romance Dawn | Character (Blue, Blocker) |
| OP05-011 | Common | OP05 Awakening of the New Era | Character (Red) |
| OP09-108 | Uncommon | OP09 Emperors in the New World | Character (Yellow) |
| OP12-119 | Secret Rare | OP12 Legacy of the Master | Character (Yellow) |
| EB04-054 | Rare | Egghead-arc printing — JP set name unverified | Character (Yellow, Egghead/Revolutionary Army) |
| ST35-005 | Super Rare | ST35 RED/BLACK Sabo (2026) | Character (Black) |
A few printings carry story-arc typing directly on the card: the Seven Warlords era (ST03-010), the Egghead arc (EB04-054, typed Egghead/Revolutionary Army), and the Revolutionary Army tie-in in the 2026 RED/BLACK Sabo starter deck (ST35-005). The remaining printings — OP01-074, OP05-011, OP09-108, and his OP12 Secret Rare — don’t carry a specific story-arc type on the card itself. The sections below cover each in more detail.
Why Kuma Has No Confirmed Leader Card
Unlike Trafalgar Law or Jinbe, who each have official Leader printings, our review of the card database turned up no Bartholomew Kuma Leader card. That absence held across every mainline set and starter deck we checked, including the starter decks most likely to feature him — ST03 The Seven Warlords of the Sea and the 2026 ST35 RED/BLACK Sabo deck, both of which include him only as a Character card.
We’re treating this as “no Leader card exists” rather than “we happened to miss one,” but we’re flagging it as unverified rather than a hard confirmation of absence — the card list is large and still expanding. If you’re building a deck specifically around Kuma, every current option runs him as a supporting Character rather than the deck’s Leader.
Practically, that means a Kuma-focused collection or deck has to be built around a different Leader — most naturally a Revolutionary Army or Seven Warlords-themed Leader, given how many of his printings carry those types — with Kuma slotted in as a Character. It’s a different collecting angle than characters who anchor a deck directly from the Leader slot, and it puts more weight on rarity and set placement as the reasons to chase a particular Kuma printing.
The Secret Rare: OP12-119

OP12 Legacy of the Master carries Kuma’s highest-rarity confirmed printing: OP12-119, a Yellow, 6-cost, 7000-power Secret Rare. Its effect discards a card from hand to add a life card and buff itself by 2 cost on play, and adds a life card again if it’s knocked out during the opponent’s turn. Illustrated by Bashikou.
An alternate-art parallel version of OP12-119 is confirmed to exist, along with a separate Japanese 3rd Anniversary Set alternate-art printing — though the specific image for that Anniversary Set version wasn’t verifiable on the official card image server at the time of this review, so we’re not displaying it here.
For the rest of OP12’s rarity spread and how OP12-119 compares against the set’s other chase cards, see our OP-12 best cards guide.
The Egghead-Arc Printing: EB04-054

EB04-054 is a Yellow, 7-cost, 7000-power Rare, and its type line confirms it as an Egghead-arc printing — typed Egghead/Revolutionary Army, which matches Kuma’s role in that stretch of the story. Its effect adds a life card on play if your life total is 2 or fewer, and returns one of the opponent’s life cards to their hand when it knocks something out. Illustrated by Ryuda.
In the English-language Limitless card database, this code is grouped under OP15 Adventure on Kami’s Island. Whether the Japanese release uses a distinct “EB-04” extra booster set name and release date is unverified in our review — the card’s Egghead/Revolutionary Army typing is confirmed, but the specific Japanese set label is not. We’re not asserting a JP set name or release date for this card.
For more on this stretch of the card list, our EB-04 best cards guide covers the Egghead-arc printings in more depth.
Early Prints: ST03-010, OP01-074, OP05-011, OP09-108
ST03-010 is Kuma’s first appearance in a starter deck — a Blue Common from ST03 The Seven Warlords of the Sea, with an on-play effect that lets you look at the top three cards of your deck and return them to the top or bottom, plus a Trigger effect that plays the card itself.
OP01-074, from the game’s original booster set, is a Blue Rare with a Blocker keyword and an on-knockout effect that plays a cost-4-or-less Pacifista-type character from hand — a direct nod to Kuma’s role producing the Pacifista army. Illustrated by Moopic.
OP05-011 is a Red Common with a simple on-play knockout effect against 2000-power-or-lower characters. It was reprinted as an alternate-art version in the Seven Warlords Binder Set. Illustrated by Ryuda.
OP09-108 is a Yellow Uncommon carrying +2000 counter power and a Trigger effect that plays the card if your Leader is a Revolutionary Army character with 5 or less total life — a card built for Revolutionary Army decks rather than a Kuma-specific archetype. Illustrated by Nekobayashi.
New for 2026: ST35-005
Kuma’s most recent printing comes from ST35 RED/BLACK Sabo, a 2026 starter deck. ST35-005 is a Black, 5-cost, 5000-power Super Rare with a permanent +3 cost modifier built into the card, and an on-play effect that plays a Revolutionary Army character with 4000 power or less from hand or trash. Illustrated by S-KINOKO. It’s the only confirmed Kuma card tied to the Sabo-focused starter lineup, and it keeps the Revolutionary Army typing that runs through his later-arc printings.
Is Bartholomew Kuma in OP-17? What We Know
OP-17 The World’s Strongest Warriors is scheduled for release in Japan on August 22, 2026. As of our most recent review of the card database, we could not confirm a new Bartholomew Kuma card in the OP-17 set. That’s a different situation from characters like Jinbe or Brook, both of whom have confirmed new OP-17 printings — for Kuma specifically, the question remains open rather than settled either way.
Pre-orders for OP-17 booster boxes are open now, shipping on or after August 24, 2026. If a Kuma card does surface in the remaining unrevealed cards before release, it would ship as part of whatever box you pre-order — there’s no separate allocation by character.
