There are five different Mewtwo-EX cards, not one — and between them, roughly 43 separate printings across Japanese and English sets. Search “Mewtwo EX” and you’ll get results spanning a 2011 rare holo, a pair of 2015 gold cards from opposite halves of the same set, and a 2016 reprint that shares the same numbers as a completely different Pokemon. None of it is interchangeable.
This guide catalogues every BW- and XY-era Mewtwo-EX and M Mewtwo-EX printing, identifies the chase card, and prices what we currently have listed. If you landed here looking for the modern Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex from 2025’s Glory of Team Rocket set — a completely different card, released a decade later — jump to our Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex card guide instead.
Five distinct EX-era Mewtwo cards exist, with roughly 43 printings between them as catalogued by Limitless TCG’s Japanese and English databases as of August 2026. The chase is the gold UR Mewtwo-EX numbered 065/059 — and it exists in both halves of XY8 (青い衝撃 Blue Impact and 赤い閃光 Red Flash), not just one. We currently have a PSA 10 of the Blue Impact copy listed at ¥391,400 (~$2,663)
Prices for our own listings are current or recent asking prices as of August 2026, converted at ¥147/USD. Where outside secondary-market figures are cited, they are explicitly marked as asking prices from single listings, not confirmed market ranges.
Every Mewtwo EX Card, At a Glance
Before diving into individual print runs, here’s the full family. Each row below is a genuinely different card — different attacks, different artwork, different card text — not a reprint of the others.
JP Attack Name | Core JP Printing | EN Counterpart | Years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
(BW3) 028/052 | Next Destinies 54/99, FA 98/99 | 2011–2013 |
| Mewtwo-EX (2016 Evolutions line) | — | 20th Anniversary (CP6) 050/087 → 095/087 SR | Evolutions 52/108, FA 103/108 | 2016* |
Five cards, two of which are the “Mega” (M Mewtwo-EX) versions rather than base Mewtwo-EX. A sixth card — the 2016 Evolutions-line Mewtwo-EX, a reprint-era card rather than a new design — is included here for completeness since it shares the Mewtwo-EX name and frame.
If you’re specifically after a Mewtwo EX full art, that narrows things further: every card in the table above has a full-art or full-art-equivalent printing (the JP “secret” full art slot, or the EN “FA Ultra Rare” slot), and each is a separate collectible from its regular-frame counterpart. The XY8 gold UR is a step above even those — a third rarity tier sitting on top of the RR and the secret SR/FA for the same card.
Not the Same Card: Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex
If your search brought you here looking for a card released in the last two years, you’re probably after a different Mewtwo entirely. Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex (ロケット団のミュウツーex) is a 2025–2026 card from Glory of Team Rocket (SV10) and its high-class reprint, MEGA Dream ex (M2a). It’s Psychic-type with 280 HP, the ability Power Saver, and the attack Eraser Ball — nothing like the BW/XY-era cards on this page, and it has its own separate print run of eight versions.
We cover that card’s full printing list, chase SAR, and pricing separately in our Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex card guide. Everything below this point is the older, 2011–2016 Mewtwo-EX lineage.
The Chase: XY8 065/059 UR Gold Mewtwo-EX

Here’s the part that trips people up: the gold UR Mewtwo-EX numbered 065/059 was printed in both halves of XY8, not just one. XY8 released as a split set in September 2015 — 青い衝撃 (Blue Impact, XY8b) and 赤い閃光 (Red Flash, XY8r) — and each half received a base card, an SR, and a gold UR; only the two gold URs share 065/059. They are two different cards with two different attacks (Photon Wave/Psyburn on Blue Impact, Burst Ball/Damage Change on Red Flash), not duplicate prints of one card.
Market-listing consensus across Japanese shop pricing pages has the Red Flash gold UR listed slightly above the Blue Impact gold UR, though both sit at the same rarity tier and command-level treatment. We currently have a PSA 10 of the Blue Impact copy listed at ¥391,400 (~$2,663) That figure is our own current listing price, not a third-party market average — the available asking-price sample for a decade-old JP gold rare like this one is too thin to establish a reliable market range the way it might for a current-set chase card.
One more detail worth checking before you buy: JP shops distinguish a 1st Edition (1ED) stamp on XY8-era boosters from the standard unlimited print run, and this applies to the 065/059 UR as well. If a listing specifies 1ED, that’s a separate collecting category from an unmarked copy — confirm which one you’re looking at before comparing prices across listings.
Limitless TCG’s Japanese card database doesn’t currently list either XY8 gold UR under its normal card pages — both are tracked instead through Japanese shop pricing pages. It’s a reminder that even well-documented sets can have gaps in the major English-language databases.
Every Printing, Set by Set
Full breakdown by card, transcribed from Limitless TCG’s card-page print lists and Bulbapedia. Card numbers and rarities below are as catalogued; a small number of promo products with unconfirmed release details are noted separately rather than guessed at. Years marked with an asterisk (*) — 2012, 2016, and 2017 — come from concept-pack, reprint-set, and English-set rows that weren’t independently cross-checked for this guide; treat them as reported rather than confirmed.
Mewtwo-EX — “X Ball / Psycho Drive” (original, BW era)

(Psycho Drive) | BW3 | 028/052 | R | 2011 |

A Master Deck Build Box EX print and an EN Celebrations Classic Collection reprint are also referenced in shop and database listings for this card, but their catalogue numbers aren’t confirmed — unconfirmed, not guessed. And to answer a question we see often: no “BW8” printing of this card exists. The concept-pack reprint from this era is EX Battle Boost, not a BW8 set.

M Mewtwo-EX: The “Mega Mewtwo” Variants
Both halves of XY8 also carry a Mega Evolution version — M Mewtwo-EX, distinct from the base Mewtwo-EX above. These are the cards people usually mean when they search “mega mewtwo ex.”

Both M Mewtwo-EX cards are Psychic type. Which artwork is commonly labelled “Mega Mewtwo X” versus “Mega Mewtwo Y” is not confirmed in our sourcing for this pair, so we’re not asserting an X/Y split here — unlike, say, the well-documented Mega Charizard X/Y lineage. Neither M Mewtwo-EX carries a secret gold UR in XY8 — the gold-tier chase in this set family belongs to the base Mewtwo-EX cards covered above.
What These Printings Are Asking Right Now
Outside secondary-market data for the two XY8 gold URs is thin. Individual asking-price snapshots exist on Japanese resale platforms, but each card number currently shows only a single active listing rather than multiple comparable ones — not enough to call a market range, so we’re not printing specific outside figures here. What we can anchor on is our own current listing.
A PSA 10 label reflects PSA’s assessment of the individual submitted card. If you’re comparing raw copies against a PSA 10 asking price like the one above, keep in mind you’re comparing two different products: ungraded condition risk versus a third-party-graded gem mint.
How to Get an XY8 Gold UR
The UR was originally a booster pull, but opening vintage XY8 packs is no longer a practical acquisition route — those packs stopped being a realistic way to pull one years ago, and by 2026 the card circulates almost entirely through the singles market, whether raw or graded. Two practical paths:
- Buy a graded copy directly. Our PSA 10 Blue Impact 065/059 UR is currently listed at ¥391,400 (~$2,663) (更新:当前售罄 — 可通过 Quick Order 申请补货) — the fastest way to know exactly what condition you’re getting.
- Search singles through Quick Order. For raw copies, the Red Flash half, or any of the other 42 printings catalogued above, our Quick Order page is the fastest way to check availability and build a request.
Confirm three things on any XY8 gold UR listing: which half (Blue Impact vs. Red Flash — the attacks differ), whether it’s marked 1st Edition (1ED), and the grading company if it’s graded. All three affect what you’re actually comparing prices against.
Where to Buy Mewtwo EX Cards from Japan
We ship graded and raw Japanese singles from Tokyo with tracked delivery worldwide. Beyond the XY8 gold UR above, we carry other printings from this Mewtwo-EX lineage as availability allows, including the 20th Anniversary CP6 095/087 full art SR. Because this is a decade-plus-old lineage spanning five separate cards and roughly 43 print runs, this page cannot list live availability for every printing — the fastest way to confirm what’s currently listed is a direct check rather than relying on a static list.
For the widest search across raw copies, other grading companies, or mixed orders alongside other cards, our Quick Order page covers the full catalogue. If you’re building out a broader Mewtwo collection, our top Mewtwo cards guide and PSA10 Mew & Mewtwo buying guide cover the wider family, and our Mega Mewtwo guide goes deeper on the M Mewtwo-EX side specifically.
Which Mewtwo EX card is the most valuable?
The gold UR Mewtwo-EX numbered 065/059 from XY8, which exists in both the Blue Impact and Red Flash halves of the set. We currently have a PSA 10 of the Blue Impact copy listed at ¥391,400 (about $2,663) Market-listing consensus places the Red Flash gold UR slightly above the Blue Impact one.
How many Mewtwo EX printings are there?
Five distinct BW/XY-era Mewtwo cards exist — two base Mewtwo-EX cards from XY8, two M Mewtwo-EX (“Mega Mewtwo”) cards from XY8, and the original 2011 Mewtwo-EX — plus the separate 2016 Evolutions-line Mewtwo-EX included for completeness, totalling roughly 43 printings across Japanese and English sets as catalogued by Limitless TCG’s databases as of August 2026.
Is there a “BW8” Mewtwo EX printing?
No confirmed BW8 printing exists. The Japanese concept-pack reprint from the original Mewtwo-EX’s era is EX Battle Boost, not a set called BW8.
What’s the difference between Mewtwo EX and Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex?
They’re entirely different cards. Mewtwo-EX (covered on this page) is a 2011–2016 lineage. Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex is a separate 2025–2026 card from Glory of Team Rocket (SV10) with different stats, ability, and attack. See our Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex card guide for that card’s printings and pricing.
Which XY8 gold UR is rarer, Blue Impact or Red Flash?
Both are the same rarity tier (UR) and print treatment. Market-listing consensus on Japanese shop pricing pages currently has the Red Flash copy listed slightly above the Blue Impact copy, but this reflects current asking prices rather than a confirmed print-run difference.
