Five years later, the same rivalry resurfaced in 30th CELEBRATION (M6a), released September 16, 2026, where Groudon and Kyogre appear again as new cards. This guide sets the 2021 S8a print of Groudon directly against that 2026 M6a print so the two don’t get confused for the same card.
Groudon 006/028 is a Fighting-type Basic Pokémon, HP 130, illustrated by Ryuta Fuse, with two attacks: Magma Volcano (discard the top 5 cards of your deck, 80 damage per Energy discarded) and Great Cleave (120 damage). Groudon 006/028: The 25th Anniversary Print
Groudon 006/028 is a Basic Pokémon card from 25th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION (S8a), credited in the official card database to illustrator Ryuta Fuse. It’s Fighting-typed with 130 HP, and its Pokédex panel reads, verbatim: No.383 闘 / 高さ：3.5 m 重さ：950.0 kg / カイオーガと 死闘の末 長い 眠りに ついた。大地の 化身と 言われる 伝説の ポケモン。 In brief: said to have fallen into a long sleep after a fierce battle with Kyogre, and called the incarnation of the land. The category field on this detail page is just the type mark, 闘, with no species category printed.
006/028 sits early in S8a’s 25 numbered cards, right before Kyogre at 007/028 — the two sit in consecutive slots, and Groudon’s own Pokédex panel names Kyogre as the opponent it battled before its long sleep. The official card database prints no per-card mirror or holo flag for either card; the set’s only official finish statement is the product page’s set-wide line that every card is a holo card.

Two attacks are printed on the card:
- [{F}{F}{C}] Magma Volcano (マグマボルケーノ) 80× — Discard the top 5 cards of your deck. This attack does 80 damage for each Energy card discarded in this way.
- [{F}{F}{C}{C}] Great Cleave (だいせつだん) 120
Magma Volcano’s ceiling depends entirely on how many of the five milled cards happen to be Energy — nothing is guaranteed, so its output swings from zero to a heavy total depending on the deck’s Energy density and the luck of the mill. Great Cleave is the flat, dependable option at 120 damage for four Energy, with no printed secondary effect.
Both attacks share the same two-Fighting-Energy core cost, with Great Cleave adding a further Colorless Energy on top. Between the two, Magma Volcano is the cheaper attack by one Energy and the one with upside if the mill cooperates, while Great Cleave trades that upside for a guaranteed number every time it’s used, regardless of what the deck’s top five cards turn out to be.
006/028 vs. Groudon 068/103 in 30th Celebration
The Groudon in this guide is not the same card as the Groudon that appears in 30th CELEBRATION (M6a), numbered 068/103 in that set, released September 16, 2026. Our Kyogre & Groudon in 30th Celebration guide covers that pairing, 013/103 Kyogre and 068/103 Groudon, in the newer set.
Five years apart in release date and numbered under two different systems — S8a’s /028 against M6a’s /103 — the two Groudon prints share nothing but the species. They have different illustrators, different attacks and different numbering, so a buyer searching for one should check the set code and number printed on the card, not the species name.
The printed values differ throughout. The S8a card is Fighting with 130 HP, Weakness Grass ×2, no Resistance and a Retreat cost of 3, and it attacks with Magma Volcano and Great Cleave. The M6a card is a Fighting Basic with 140 HP, Weakness Grass ×2 and Retreat 4, and its single attack, Break Ground, costs five Fighting Energy for 250 damage while putting 20 damage on each of your own Benched Pokémon. Nothing but the type symbol carries across.
The Weather Duo: Groudon and Kyogre in S8a
Groudon 006/028 and Kyogre 007/028 are both illustrated by Ryuta Fuse and both carry 130 HP, the same HP total shared with Ho-Oh and Lugia earlier in the set’s numbering. Neither Groudon nor Kyogre has a printed Resistance on its S8a card — only a Weakness and a Retreat cost — which sets them apart from Ho-Oh and Lugia, both of which do carry a Resistance line.

Groudon turns up once more in the 25th-anniversary line, outside S8a: the Promo Card Pack 25th ANNIVERSARY edition’s official 25-card checklist includes マグマ団のグラードン（2003）, Team Magma’s Groudon, at 011/025 — a recreation of an earlier card, not a reprint of 006/028. The 25th ANNIVERSARY GOLDEN BOX carries a 60-card all-holo deck that repeats only 16 database entries — six Item cards, five Pokémon, four Supporters and one Basic Lightning Energy — and it has no Groudon at all.
