Weakness is Fighting (×2), there’s no listed Resistance, and retreat cost is 2 Energy. Overwriting Bolt trades low damage for a set-up effect — forcing a Lightning Weakness onto the target for a turn — a different kind of utility from Ken Sugimori’s straightforward paralysis-chance Thunder Shock on 017/103. 034/103 is a Basic Lightning Pokémon with 80 HP.
Shinji Kanda, the Illustrator
Shinji Kanda is credited as the illustrator of 034/103 in the official card database. Bulbapedia’s illustrator page (fetched September 16, 2026) gives the Japanese name カンダシンジ, and states Shinji Kanda was born in 1986 in Kyoto Prefecture. Bulbapedia states the illustrator’s first Pokémon TCG card was Magmar from Brilliant Stars, and credits Shinji Kanda with 32 cards for the TCG so far, plus 10 cards for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.
On style, Bulbapedia describes Kanda’s artworks as done primarily digitally, though the illustrator has also used other methods, including coloured pencils on plastic sheets and scanned crumpled aluminium foil.
