Gold Star Pokémon Cards: Entei, Raikou and Suicune, the Japanese PCG ★ Trio

Gold Star Pokémon Cards: Entei, Raikou and Suicune, the Japanese PCG ★ Trio

Gold Star Pokemon cards from the 2005 Japanese PCG era include a trio that collectors still look up by name: エンテイ (Entei), ライコウ (Raikou) and スイクン (Suicune). Each of the three received a ★ print in the expansion pack “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean” (PCG4), released in Japan on Friday, April 8, 2005. This guide sets out what our own fact-checked guides record about those three cards — their numbers, their illustrator and the sets around them — and then says plainly which of them we list as of October 29, 2026 and which we do not.

The facts available are narrow, and that shapes the guide. The three Gold Star cards sit before the period covered by the official Japanese card database, so there is no official image to show, and no source we use gives a price for the Raikou or Suicune card. What they do give is a clean set of numbers, which is exactly what a buyer needs in order to read a graded-card label correctly.

Key Takeaways
  • The Japanese numbers are Entei 019/106, Raikou 039/106 and Suicune 032/106, all HP 80 and all credited to Masakazu Fukuda.
  • The English counterparts, from EX Unseen Forces, are numbered 113/115, 114/115 and 115/115.
  • Our only matching listing is the Entei 019/106 print, offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥2,570,400 (~$16,691), matched by number and set only. Raikou and Suicune Gold Star cards are not listed.

The Three Gold Star Cards at a Glance

All three share the same set, the same hit points and the same illustrator credit. What separates them is the name and the number. Our guide to the legendary beasts records both the English and the Japanese numbering, and the table below keeps the two apart.

Carta English number (EX Unseen Forces) Japanese number (PCG4) HP Illustrator
Entei★ / エンテイ 113/115 019/106 80 Masakazu Fukuda
Raikou★ / ライコウ 114/115 039/106 80 Masakazu Fukuda
Suicune★ / スイクン 115/115 032/106 80 Masakazu Fukuda

Two things stand out when the columns sit side by side. The English numbers run in a clean sequence at the very end of a 115-card list, one after another. The Japanese numbers do not: Raikou’s 039 comes well after Suicune’s 032 and Entei’s 019, so the Japanese order is not the English order. Anyone matching a Japanese slab against an English checklist, or the reverse, will see a mismatch that is simply a numbering difference.

Our guide calls the three “collector targets two decades on”. That is the only characterisation of the trio in our sources, and it is a description of attention, not a statement about any price. Where this guide gives a price, it is a price on one of our own product pages.

Where They Come From: PCG4 and EX Unseen Forces

The Japanese set is the PCG4 expansion pack “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean”, released on Friday, April 8, 2005. Our own site also writes the name as “Gold Sky Silver Sea”, so a search for either spelling can land on the same expansion. The English set that carries the same three ★ cards is EX Unseen Forces, dated Monday, August 22, 2005 in our guide — about four and a half months after the Japanese release.

The “PCG” in the set code belongs to the naming run that followed the ADV era. According to our e-series guide, the ADV era began on Friday, January 31, 2003 and the PCG-named series, starting with PCG1 “Flight of Legends”, ran roughly from 2003 to 2006. PCG4 therefore sits late in that run. It is a different generation from the e-series cards (e1 to e5, with dot-code strips and a launch on Saturday, December 1, 2001) and a different generation again from the Old Back cards, whose card back was used from the October 1996 launch until Pokemon VS on Thursday, July 19, 2001.

That timeline matters for one practical reason: an Old Back card never carries a 1ED stamp, according to our Old Back guide. A card from 2005 sits after that card-back era, so label wording such as “Old Back” and “1ED” belongs to different eras and different products. Our Japanese Old Back guide explains the card-back marks in full.

One more limit is worth stating. The official Japanese card database that we use for modern prints starts with the Diamond and Pearl era and does not hold PCG-era cards. For the Gold Star trio we therefore have no official database entry, no official image and no official rarity label. What we have is the set name, the numbers and the illustrator credit from our own guide. Nothing else about the cards is asserted here.

Reading the Numbers Without Mixing Cards Up

A collector number has two parts: the figure before the slash is the card’s position, and the figure after it is the set count printed on the card. For the Gold Star trio the set count is 106 in Japanese numbering and 115 in English numbering. All three Japanese numbers (019, 039, 032) are smaller than 106.

That detail has a consequence. On modern Japanese cards a number larger than the set count, such as 213/172, marks a secret-numbered print. The Gold Star cards cannot be recognised that way, because their numbers sit inside the printed count. They are identified by name, set and number together.

Our legendary-beasts guide mixes English-set and Japanese numbering, marking Japanese numbers with “(JP …)”, and a reader moving between guides can trip over the same issue. Several other Entei, Raikou and Suicune prints carry digits that look familiar, so the table below lists the near-matches that are easiest to confuse.

Digits Gold Star meaning Different card with similar digits
019 Entei★, PCG4 019/106 Entei V, S12a 019/172, credited to PLANETA Mochizuki, HP 230
039 Raikou★, PCG4 039/106 Raikou :1ED, e4 039/088, the e-series “Split Earth” print; we offer one as a PSA 10 back order at ¥264,600 (~$1,718), sourced to order
019/106 versus 001/009 Entei, PCG4 019/106 in “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean” Entei, PCG 001/009, the PokePark Premium File “Blue Sheet” — a different set label on our listing

The second row shows shared digits: the e4 Raikou and the Gold Star Raikou share the digits 039 and nothing else. The denominator, the set name and the era all differ. Always read the whole number, the set name and the name on the slab label together.

The Beasts Before and After 2005

The Gold Star prints are one stop on a longer line of Entei, Raikou and Suicune cards. All three come from Pokemon Gold and Silver (1999), in which, per our guide, lightning struck the Brass Tower and Ho-Oh revived three Pokemon; the Burned Tower links flame, lightning and rain to Entei (Fire), Raikou (Lightning) and Suicune (Water). The table lists the milestones our sources give, in date order.

The two Thursday, November 23, 2000 rows are where our Old Back listings come from: the Entei LV.24 from Premium File 3 and the Suicune from Awakening Legends. Our PSA 10 back order for the Entei LV.24 Old Back card (PRMF-3 No.244, Premium File 3) is ¥66,340 (~$431), and the Suicune Old Back card (neo3 No.245, Awakening Legends) is ¥252,606 (~$1,640), each sourced to order with the current terms on its product page. They are separate cards from the Gold Star prints and appear here only to place the trio in time. For the 2010 cards, the official database holds three paired L2-B entries, comprising six numbered halves (063/080 to 068/080), credited to Shinji Higuchi, and our LEGEND cards guide explains the two-card format.

The box above is not a Gold Star product. We show it because the official database lists a Suicune print in its set (S4a 033/190, illustrator so-taro, plus the secret-numbered 221/190 by Kagemaru Himeno).

After 2005 the official Japanese card database takes over, and the three beasts have official images and illustrator credits from the Diamond and Pearl era onward. Three modern prints show how the art changed hands: Entei EX from Dark Rush (BW4-B 009/069, shizurow, HP 180), Raikou from SM3p (033/072, Mitsuhiro Arita, HP 120) and Suicune from XY9-B (020/080, Mitsuhiro Arita, HP 120). None of them is a Gold Star card; they are included because an official image exists for each.

What We List for Each Beast

The three Gold Star cards are not equally represented in our store. The table states each one separately.

Gold Star card Our listing Status
Entei★, 019/106 PSA10 Entei: 1ED [PCG4 019/106] (Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean) PSA 10 back order at ¥2,570,400 (~$16,691); matched to the Gold Star by number and set only
Raikou★, 039/106 None Not listed; sourcing requests go through Pedido rápido
Suicune★, 032/106 None Not listed; sourcing requests go through Pedido rápido

The Entei entry needs careful wording. The Entei 1ED [PCG4 019/106] listing carries the same Japanese number and set name that our legendary-beasts guide gives for the Gold Star Entei, so we refer to it as the 019/106 print our listing carries. Only the guide uses the words “Gold Star”; the listing name itself shows the set name and the number, and it does not print a rarity symbol. The match rests on number and set, nothing more.

The listing is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥2,570,400 (~$16,691) — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms. “1ED” is part of the listing name; our e4 Raikou listing uses the same “:1ED” marker, and our older articles write it out as “1st Edition”.

There is a second PCG-labelled Entei in the store, which is a different card: PSA10 Entei [PCG 001/009], the PokePark Premium File “Blue Sheet”, offered as a PSA 10 back order, sourced to order, at ¥239,200 (~$1,553). Its year, rarity and illustrator are not stated in our sources, so we make no claim about it beyond the label. A modern Suicune is offered as a PSA 10 back order, the V SAR [s12a 215/172] (as our listing names it), at ¥18,620 (~$121) — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms.

A Label Checklist Before You Buy

Because the trio has no official image to compare against, the label does most of the work. These checks use only facts in this guide.

  1. Match the full number. Entei is 019/106, Raikou is 039/106 and Suicune is 032/106 in Japanese numbering. A label reading 113/115, 114/115 or 115/115 points to the English EX Unseen Forces print, not the Japanese one.
  2. Match the set name. The Japanese set is “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean”, sometimes written “Gold Sky Silver Sea” on our site. The English set is EX Unseen Forces.
  3. Do not trust digits alone. The Raikou e4 039/088 and the Entei V S12a 019/172 share digits with the Gold Star numbers and are unrelated cards.
  4. Read the edition wording as part of the label. “1ED” appears in the Entei listing name. An Old Back label belongs to the earlier card-back era, which ended on Thursday, July 19, 2001.
  5. Check the page, not the headline. Our product page shows the current terms for a back order. A guide like this one gives context and numbers; it does not set or forecast a price.
What This Guide Cannot Tell You

The sources behind this guide do not state a Japanese rarity label for the Gold Star prints, a price for the Raikou or Suicune Gold Star cards, or the pop count of any graded copy. Treat any of those as unknown unless you see them on the product page itself.

Why the Beasts Are in the News

On October 29, 2026 premium.gamepedia.jp and PokeGuardian reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「オーロラの波紋」, which collectors read as a possible Suicune set; nothing is announced. Our Aurora Ripples trademark guide (working English translation of オーロラの波紋; no official English name exists) explains what is confirmed and what is not, and the ex★ 2027 round-up covers the wider picture.

Preguntas frecuentes

What are the Gold Star Entei, Raikou and Suicune cards?

They are the ★ prints of the three legendary beasts from 2005: the Japanese expansion pack “Golden Sky, Silvery Ocean” (PCG4), released on Friday, April 8, 2005, and the English set EX Unseen Forces, dated Monday, August 22, 2005. Each has HP 80 and is credited to Masakazu Fukuda.

What are the Japanese card numbers of the Gold Star trio?

Entei is 019/106, Raikou is 039/106 and Suicune is 032/106. The English numbers are 113/115, 114/115 and 115/115.

Who illustrated the Gold Star Entei, Raikou and Suicune?

Our legendary-beasts guide credits Masakazu Fukuda for all three.

Which Gold Star cards does the store list?

Only the Entei 019/106 print is listed, as a PSA 10 back order at ¥2,570,400 (~$16,691), matched to the Gold Star by number and set only. The Raikou and Suicune Gold Star cards are not listed; sourcing requests go through Quick Order.

What does 1ED mean in the Entei listing name?

1ED is part of the listing name; our e4 Raikou listing uses the same :1ED marker, and our older articles write it out as 1st Edition. Our Old Back guide notes that an Old Back card never carries a 1ED stamp, so the two terms belong to different eras.

Is the Entei PCG 001/009 PokePark card a Gold Star?

Nothing in our sources says so. It is a different card, from the PokePark Premium File “Blue Sheet”, with a different set label and number; its year, rarity and illustrator are not stated.
