The Official Sun & Moon Elite Trainer Box

The Sun & Moon Elite Trainer Box launched February 3, 2017, the same date as the set. The official gallery page prints the contents below and no price, so no MSRP is stated for it.

The official overview says “The battles heat up with Pokémon from the tropical Alola region”, names Rowlet, Litten and Popplio as the starters, and points to “the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo-GX and Lunala-GX”. Its bullet list reads “Over 140 cards”, “11 new Pokémon-GX featuring a brand-new game mechanic” and “More than 40 never-before-seen Pokémon from the newly discovered Alola region”.

The sleeves, dice, markers and collector’s box in the ETB have no counterpart among Japanese boxes or singles, and no booster-display pack count is stated for the English set.

Which Japanese Sets Feed Sun & Moon

As of September 30, 2026, Bulbapedia’s list of Japanese expansions (snapshot September 15, 2026) names SM1 as the Japanese counterpart of Sun & Moon. Limitless and the official database list the pair as two sets, SM1S and SM1M. Card-level matches are attributed to Limitless TCG, which lists for each English card the Japanese cards that share its game text.

Each Japanese version has its own secret block above the 060 main list: the SR prints run from 061/060 to 066/060 in both SM1S and SM1M. Those SR prints are the Japanese cards the English Ultra Rare cards line up with. The Japanese pair came out first, on December 9, 2016; the English set followed on February 3, 2017.

Rainbow Rare 150–157 and Secret Rare 158–163

Limitless labels English cards 150 to 157 Rainbow Rare and 158 to 163 Secret Rare. The eight Rainbow Rare cards repeat the eight Pokémon-GX of the Ultra Rare block, and the Secret Rare cards are four Trainer Items and two basic Energy cards. Limitless’s Japanese-print lists for the Rainbow Rare cards show the same RR and SR prints as for the Ultra Rare versions, so these 14 English cards have no verified same-tier Japanese print. Japanese singles above the SR tier are offered as PSA 10 cards: Espeon GX HR SM1S 068/060 as a back order at ¥93,635 (~$608), Lapras GX HR SM1S 067/060 as a back order at ¥28,560 (~$185), and Umbreon GX HR SM1M 069/060 as a PSA 10 at ¥226,600 (~$1,471) or a back order at ¥224,400 (~$1,457). English or Japanese: A Print Checklist

A card from the Sun & Moon era can be an English card, a Japanese SM1S card or a Japanese SM1M card. Four printed details separate them.

• Number against set size. English Ultra Rare cards are numbered 138 to 149 in a set whose printed total is 149 (per pokemon-tcg-data). Japanese SR prints are numbered above their main list, such as 063/060 in SM1S or SM1M.
• Set code. The Japanese cards carry SM1S or SM1M; the English cards carry the Sun & Moon set.
• Regular and SR prints in one edition. Where the English set has one card, the Japanese pair has a regular print and an SR print in the same edition; Lapras-GX, for example, has both its RR and SR prints in SM1S.
• Illustrator credit. A matching credit supports an English-to-Japanese match but does not prove that the artwork is identical.
