Japan released SM7a on July 6, 2018, SM7b on August 3, 2018 and SM8 on September 7, 2018, all ahead of the English set. At card level, Limitless TCG lists a Japanese SR print for each of the 20 Ultra Rare cards numbered 195 to 214 in Lost Thunder: 8 in SM8, 6 in SM7a and 6 in SM7b. The 13 Rainbow Rare and 9 gold Secret Rare cards have no verified Japanese counterpart at the same tier.

How the English Set Maps to Japan
No official source states that English Lost Thunder equals a Japanese set. The set-level pairing is Bulbapedia’s (snapshot September 15, 2026): SM8 is listed against Lost Thunder, and SM7a and SM7b as parts of it. At card level, each Limitless TCG card page lists the Japanese prints that share the English card’s game text, and the official Japanese card database supplies the Japanese number, rarity icon and illustrator credit for each.

Choosing Between SM8, SM7a and SM7b
Use the tables above as a checklist rather than a ranking.
- Start from the card. Blacephalon-GX (199), Suicune-GX (200), Tyranitar-GX (203) and Lugia-GX (207) sit in SM8; Zeraora-GX (201) and Genesect-GX (204) sit in SM7a; Alolan Ninetales-GX (205) and Mimikyu-GX (206) sit in SM7b.
- Read the Japanese number, not the English one. The English 207 is 100/095 in Japan.
- Keep the Rainbow Rare and gold cards separate. Their same-tier Japanese counterparts are not verified, and the SR print of the same Pokémon is a different tier.
- Match the product to the set code. SM8, SM7a and SM7b are three different product names, each with its own listings.
Rainbow Rare and Secret Rare Cards Without a Verified Match
Limitless TCG’s Japanese-print lists for these cards show no print above the SR tier in the paired sets, so the 13 Rainbow Rare and 9 gold Secret Rare cards have no verified same-tier counterpart. Each Rainbow Rare card is a second version of a Pokémon-GX that also appears among the numbered Ultra Rare cards; the table shows the Japanese RR and SR prints Limitless lists for the same game text, which sit in lower tiers.
