The Pokemon Start Deck 100 line has had two retail releases in Japan: スタートデッキ100 (set code SI, Friday, December 17, 2021) and MEGA スタートデッキ100 バトルコレクション (set code MC, Friday, December 19, 2025). Both put one 60-card deck in a small box, and both pick which of 100 decks you get at random. The differences sit in the numbering, the contents rules, the price and the cards that sit above the base list. This guide lines the two up using the official product pages and the official card database, and keeps anything we could only read on fan sites labelled as reported.
We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo, so the store links below point at the current MEGA Start Deck 100 Battle Collection listing and at graded cards from both products. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD and are approximate.
- Same format: one 60-card deck, 100 deck kinds, a random draw, and a damage-counter sheet as the only listed accessory in both products.
- Price: the official price rose from ¥790 (2021) to ¥891 (2025), a difference of ¥101. Our current listing of the 2025 product is the MEGA Start Deck 100 Battle Collection.
- Contents rule: the 2025 official page states that every deck contains two or more Pokémon ex. The 2021 page in our sources states a different guarantee: Hyper Ball (ハイパーボール) in all 100 decks.
- Numbering: the base list ran 001–414 in 2021 and 001–742 in 2025; the secret numbers above the base list are 415/414 onward and 743/742 onward.
The Two Products Side by Side
The table uses the two official product pages, the official card database and, where marked, fan-site reporting. Prices are the manufacturer’s list prices, not our store prices.

What Stayed the Same
Reading the two official pages one after the other, the shared structure is easy to list.
- One deck per box. Each product is a single 60-card deck. The official beginner guide describes a deck as 60 cards, and the official rules page says the same: 「60枚のカードを組み合わせた「デッキ」を、ひとり1個使います。」
- A random deck from 100. The 2021 page uses deck numbers 001 to 100; the 2025 page says the deck is “one of 100 kinds”. In both cases you cannot choose.
- Only a damage-counter sheet. Neither page lists a coin, a playmat or a rulebook in the box. The starter sets (スターターセット) are the fixed-deck products that add a coin and a playmat.
- You need a second deck to play. The 2025 page states 「対戦には2つ以上のデッキが必要です。」 (a battle needs two or more decks). Our sources quote that sentence from the 2025 page; the one-deck-per-player rule applies to both products.
For a ground-up look at how decks are built, the official rules are summarised in our beginner guide to playing Pokémon cards. The 2025 product’s own story is told in the Start Deck 100 Battle Collection guide.
Numbering: 414 Versus 742
The denominator on the card is the clearest way to tell the two products apart at a glance. The 2021 deck cards are numbered out of 414, and the 2025 deck cards are numbered out of 742. A card that prints a number above its denominator is a secret-numbered card.
The 2021 list: 415/414 and above
The official card database confirms two secret numbers: ピカチュウV 415/414 (illustrated by 5ban Graphics) and ザマゼンタV 417/414. PokéWiki lists the full run as 415 to 422, which would make 422 cards in all; the table below marks that list as reported.
| Number | Carta | Source | Our PSA 10 listing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 415/414 | ピカチュウV (Pikachu V) | Official database | Currently listed at ¥40,588 (~$264) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) |
| 416/414 | グランブルV | Reported (PokéWiki) | — |
| 417/414 | ザマゼンタV (Zamazenta V) | Official database | — |
| 419/414 | マリィのプライド (Marnie’s Pride) | Reported (PokéWiki) | PSA 10 back order, ¥36,380 (~$236), sourced to order |

| 421/414 | ガラルサンダーV (Galarian Zapdos V) | Reported (PokéWiki) | PSA 10 back order, ¥13,500 (~$88), sourced to order |
| 422/414 | ガラルファイヤーV (Galarian Moltres V) | Reported (PokéWiki) | PSA 10 back order, ¥12,000 (~$78), sourced to order |
Numbers 418 (listed on PokéWiki as a Supporter) and the details of the other rows are outside what the official database shows us. For the PSA 10 back orders, the product page shows the current terms.

The 2025 list: 743/742 and above
The 2025 product has a much longer run above the base list. The count of 24 cards (743/742 to 766/742) is reported by premium.gamepedia.jp; the official database confirms six of them: 743, 749, 755, 764, 765 and 766. The official database carries no rarity field, so the “AR Style”, “SAR Style” and “MUR Style” labels are the ones used by sellers and by gamepedia, and our own listings use them too. Our ranking of the Style cards by our PSA 10 prices goes through them one by one.

That card is a good example of the 2025 structure: the regular print of ピカチュウex is 227/742 (illustrator takuyoa), and the secret-numbered 764/742 is a second, differently illustrated print of the same Pokémon (illustrator booota). In the 2021 product the secret-numbered Pikachu V sits at 415/414.
Contents Rules: Hyper Ball Versus Two Pokémon ex
The most visible rule change is what each official page promises about the deck. The 2021 page says every one of the 100 decks contains ハイパーボール (Hyper Ball). The 2025 page says every deck contains at least two Pokémon ex: 「ポケモンexが2枚以上、必ず入っているよ!」 That is a guarantee about the Pokémon, not about the Trainer cards, and it is the sentence a buyer of the 2025 box can rely on.
The example decks named on the 2021 page are mostly V and VMAX decks: No.001 レックウザVMAX, No.020 サーナイト, No.028 バオッキーV+ウルガモスV, No.048 ピカチュウV+エースバーンV and No.100 エンテイV・スイクンV・ライコウV. That last deck is the one that ties the product to the legendary beasts: the three V cards sit together in one numbered deck. Our guides to the individual cards are the Entei V PSA 10 guide and the Raikou V PSA 10 guide.
The two guarantees are different kinds of statements. “Two or more Pokémon ex” is a rule for the 2025 box. The 2021 page names Hyper Ball in all 100 decks and lists example decks; it does not say how many V cards a deck holds. Do not carry one product’s rule over to the other.
Price, Production Notices and the J Regulation Mark
The official price moved from ¥790 for the 2021 box to ¥891 for the 2025 box. Our current listing of the 2025 product is currently listed at ¥1,097 (~$7); the official price is the manufacturer’s list price and the listing is our store’s own, so the two figures are not directly comparable.
Two official notices around the 2025 release are worth knowing. On December 19, 2025 the manufacturer posted that additional production will continue depending on sales (「販売状況に応じて今後も継続的に追加生産を行う予定」) and asked customers not to contact shops about re-sale. On December 20, 2025 it posted a correction about a packing error in deck No.004 (the correct contents are グレンアルマex + ハッサムex) and in No.101 (the correct contents are four foil cards of ガイ), with an exchange route through the support web form. The notice confirms that a deck No.101 exists in the product.
The 2025 product also carries a regulation-mark milestone. The official rotation notice of November 7, 2025 states that from December 19, 2025 to January 22, 2026 the Standard format would be G, H, I and J, with J debuting in this product; from Friday, January 23, 2026 it is H, I and J, and cards marked G leave Standard. The official card database shows only the set logo for each card, so we do not assign a regulation-mark letter to individual cards, and we cannot state the legality of any 2021 card in Standard from our sources.
Same Pokémon, Both Products: Pikachu
Pikachu has graded listings from both product lines. The table keeps the product names exactly as our listings give them; the “:Mirror” in two names is part of the listing title, and we do not state why the prices differ.
| Card (our listing name) | Prodotto | Currently listed |
|---|---|---|
| PSA10 Pikachu [SI 127/414] | スタートデッキ100 (2021) | ¥13,500 (~$88) |
| PSA10 Pikachu :Mirror [SI 127/414] | スタートデッキ100 (2021) | ¥8,199 (~$53) |
| PSA10 Pikachu :Mirror [MC 225/742] | MEGA スタートデッキ100 バトルコレクション (2025) | ¥9,000 (~$58) |

The 2025 side has its own Pikachu pair above the base list: the regular ピカチュウex 227/742 and the secret-numbered 764/742 shown earlier. Our dedicated write-up of the latter is the Pikachu ex SAR Style 764/742 guide.

Which Product Suits Which Buyer
These are decision notes drawn from the table above, not recommendations about play strength.
- You want the product that is currently listed in our store: the 2025 product. The manufacturer’s December 19, 2025 notice said further production was planned; it says nothing about supply on any later date.
- You want a Pokémon ex in every deck: the 2025 product, whose official page states two or more per deck.
- You collect the secret-numbered cards: the 2021 run is short and confirmed in part (415 and 417 on the official database), and the 2025 run is long and mostly reported (24 cards; six confirmed). Singles are listed individually in each case, so you do not need to open boxes. Our card list hub is the place to browse released sets.
- You are weighing the White Box listing: our regular versus white box guide explains the listing we show as MEGA Start Deck 100 Battle Collection – White Box, currently listed at ¥38,570 (~$250).
A related but different comparison is the one against the Premium Trainer Box, covered in MEGA Premium Trainer Box vs Start Deck 100. A third relative, the CoroCoro Comic edition SN with its 24-card numbering, is a mail-application product rather than a retail one; see the CoroCoro promo guide.
Where the Reported Battle Start Deck Mark Fits
On October 29, 2026 fan sites reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「バトルスタートデッキ」 (working English translation: Battle Start Deck; no official English name exists), which collectors read as a possible starter-deck product; nothing is announced. Our Battle Start Deck trademark guide explains what is confirmed and what is not, and the ex★ 2027 round-up covers the other three names reported the same day.
Where to Buy
The sealed product we currently list from this line is the MEGA Start Deck 100 Battle Collection at ¥1,097 (~$7). Graded singles from the 2021 product include the PSA 10 Pikachu V 415/414, currently listed at ¥40,588 (~$264) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), and from the 2025 product the PSA 10 Pikachu :Mirror 225/742, currently listed at ¥9,000 (~$58).
The card list hub shows the cards inside released sets with official images. Sourcing requests for a specific starter product or card go through Ordine rapido, and the product page shows the current terms.
Domande frequenti
What is the difference between Start Deck 100 and MEGA Start Deck 100 Battle Collection?
Both are single 60-card decks drawn at random from 100 kinds. The 2021 product (SI) costs 790 yen officially and is numbered out of 414; the 2025 product (MC) costs 891 yen officially, is numbered out of 742, and its official page states that every deck contains two or more Pokémon ex.
When did each Start Deck 100 release in Japan?
スタートデッキ100 released on Friday, December 17, 2021, and MEGA スタートデッキ100 バトルコレクション released on Friday, December 19, 2025, both according to the official product pages.
Does every Start Deck 100 deck contain a Pokémon ex?
For the 2025 MEGA product, yes: the official page states that two or more Pokémon ex are always included. The 2021 page names Hyper Ball in all 100 decks and lists V and VMAX example decks, and it does not state an ex guarantee.
Which secret cards are above the base number in each product?
In the 2021 product the official database confirms 415/414 Pikachu V and 417/414 Zamazenta V, and PokéWiki reports a run of 415 to 422. In the 2025 product the numbers run 743/742 to 766/742, a count of 24 reported by premium.gamepedia.jp, with six confirmed on the official database.
Can I choose which deck I get?
No. The 2021 page presents deck numbers 001 to 100 as a draw, and the 2025 page says one of the 100 kinds will end up in your hands. Neither page presents a way to pick.
Is the 2025 Start Deck 100 enough to play a game on its own?
No. The official page for the 2025 product states that a battle needs two or more decks, so a second deck is required for a game between two players.
