Entei Pokemon card value in the Sun & Moon era starts with identifying the print, because the official Japanese card database lists four Sun & Moon-code entries for エンテイ: SM8 022/095, SM11a 011/064, and two Entei GX entries from SM3p, numbered 011/072 and 073/072. They have three different illustrators, two different HP values and three different attack sets.
This guide goes through each entry with the official card image, renders the printed Japanese card text in English, compares the attacks across the three sets, and lists what we currently carry from the same sets. We do not currently list a Sun & Moon-era Entei, so the only yen figures here are for our own listings of related products and cards. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD, approximate.
- The official database lists four Sun & Moon-code Entei entries: SM8 022/095 (kawayoo, HP 130), SM11a 011/064 (Shin Nagasawa, HP 130), and Entei GX SM3p 011/072 plus the secret-numbered 073/072 (5ban Graphics, HP 180).
- The Entei GX card text is identical on 011/072 and 073/072; the 073/072 is numbered above the set’s 072 count.
- The sealed route to the SM8 set is our SM8 Booster Box, currently listed at ¥110,750 (~$719).
- Entei SM11a 011/064 shares its text and illustrator with SD 014/127, so the set code is what separates them.
The Four Sun & Moon-Code Entei Entries
The table below uses only the official card database on pokemon-card.com. It does not print rarity letters for these cards, so none is given. All four are Basic Pokemon. The two regular Entei carry the Pokedex line No.244, and the GX carries the GX rule instead.
| Card (as printed) | Set and number | Illustrator | HP | Database id | Our listing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| エンテイGX | SM3p 011/072 | 5ban Graphics | 180 | 34007 | Not listed |
| エンテイGX | SM3p 073/072 (above the set count) | 5ban Graphics | 180 | 35660 | Not listed |
| エンテイ | SM8 022/095 | kawayoo | 130 | 35314 | Not listed |
| エンテイ | SM11a 011/064 | Shin Nagasawa | 130 | 36915 | Not listed |
Our database extract carries the set codes, not the set names. Our graded-card listings call SM8 the Expansion Pack “Super-Burst Impact”, and our legendary-beasts guide gives its release as Friday, September 7, 2018. The SM3p and SM11a release dates are not stated in the sources we hold, so we leave them out rather than guess.
For the other eras of Entei, the Entei cards guide is the broad reference and the legendary beasts guide places Entei beside Raikou and Suicune.
Entei GX: SM3p 011/072 and 073/072
The Entei GX is the only rule-box Entei in the Sun & Moon-code entries. The database lists it twice, once at the main-set number 011/072 and once at 073/072, a number printed above the set’s 072 count. Our sources do not give the 073/072 a rarity letter, so we describe it as the secret-numbered print.

Both entries print the same text. With 180 HP, the card has two ordinary attacks and a GX attack. Rendered from the printed Japanese (rendering):
| Name (as printed) | Type | Damage | Effect, rendered |
|---|---|---|---|
| かえん | Attack | 50 | No additional effect. |
| ほのおのキバ | Attack | 100 | Your opponent’s Active Pokemon is now Burned. |
| ブレイブバーンGX | GX attack | 150 | 150 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokemon. You can only use one GX attack in a game. |
The special rule printed on the card is the GX rule: when a Pokemon GX is Knocked Out, the opponent takes 2 Prize cards. The Energy costs are symbols that the database text does not carry, so they are not stated here.
The same illustrator credit, 5ban Graphics, appears on the two Suicune GX entries in SM8 (028/095 and 098/095), so the Entei GX shares an artist with the Suicune GX from SM8 rather than with the other Entei prints of this era. 5ban Graphics is the credit printed in the database; we do not add biography beyond that.
Entei SM8 022/095 (kawayoo)

This is the regular Entei of the SM8 set: a Basic Pokemon with 130 HP, the Pokedex line No.244 かざんポケモン (rendering: Volcano Pokemon) and no rule box. Its two attacks, rendered from the printed Japanese (rendering):
| Name (as printed) | Damage | Effect, rendered |
|---|---|---|
| ほのおのキバ | 20 | Your opponent’s Active Pokemon is now Burned. |
| ふんか | 80+ | Each player discards the top card of their deck; this attack does 60 more damage for each Energy card discarded this way. |
The second attack is the odd one out in this guide: its extra damage depends on what is on top of both decks, not on Energy attached or the Bench. That makes it a different design from the ほのおのキバ (rendering: Flame Fang) attack on the 2021 Start Deck 100 print, where the Burn comes with 90 damage. kawayoo is also the database credit on the Suicune KK 004/018 entry.
SM8 is the set that also carries two Suicune GX prints and a Raikou: the database lists Raikou SM8 037/095, credited to Kagemaru Himeno. The three beasts therefore each have an SM8 entry, which makes the set a natural place to compare them. Our Suicune Japanese cards guide covers the Suicune GX side.
| SM8 beast entry | Illustrator | HP | Printed text, rendered (rendering) |
|---|---|---|---|
| エンテイ 022/095 | kawayoo | 130 | ほのおのキバ 20 (Burn); ふんか 80+ (top card of each deck discarded, +60 per Energy among them) |
| ライコウ 037/095 | Kagemaru Himeno | 120 | ロストボルテージ 30+ (+90 if you have an Energy in your Lost Zone); Resistance shown |
| スイクンGX 028/095 and 098/095 | 5ban Graphics | 180 | Ability げんえいのかぜ (from the Bench, shuffle this Pokemon and attached cards into your deck); キュアストリーム 120 (the defending Pokemon’s attacks do 30 less next turn); GX attack ブライニクルGX 150 (switch with a Benched Pokemon) |
Of the three SM8 beast entries, only the Suicune GX is a rule-box card, so it is the only one of the three that gives up 2 Prize cards when Knocked Out; the Entei and Raikou are plain Basics. Each of the three has a different illustrator, and none of them shares an attack with another.

Our box listing is titled “SM8-Super Explosive Impact” while our card listings and guides call the same set “Super-Burst Impact”; the shared identifier is the code SM8. A sealed box is the way to buy the set itself. It is not a way to target one specific card, and we make no statement about what any box contains beyond the set’s card list.
Entei SM11a 011/064 (Shin Nagasawa)

The SM11a Entei is a Basic with 130 HP and the Pokedex line No.244. Rendered from the printed Japanese (rendering):
| Name (as printed) | Damage | Effect, rendered |
|---|---|---|
| まきかえす | 30+ | If any of your Pokemon was Knocked Out by damage from an attack during your opponent’s last turn, this attack does 90 more damage. |
| ほのおのたてがみ | 100 | No additional effect. |
The same text and the same illustrator credit appear on SD 014/127, an Entei with set code SD. The database does not make the two interchangeable in numbering, so the set code and number are what tell them apart; the Sword & Shield era Entei guide goes through the SD print.
Shin Nagasawa’s other beast credits in the database are on the Raikou side: XY 033/171 (two entries) and XY8-Br 026/059. The same credit therefore appears on an Entei from this era and on Raikou prints from the XY era.
The Attacks Compared
One way to see how the three sets differ is to line up the damage numbers and the single condition each printing attaches to them. All figures come from the rendered database text above.
| Entry | HP | Highest printed base damage | Conditie on the extra damage | Special effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SM3p 011/072 and 073/072 (GX) | 180 | 150 (GX attack) | Targets one Benched Pokemon | Burn on the 100-damage attack; 2 Prize cards when Knocked Out |
| SM8 022/095 | 130 | 80+ (ふんか) | +60 per Energy card discarded from the top of both decks | Burn on the 20-damage attack |
| SM11a 011/064 | 130 | 100 (ほのおのたてがみ); the 30+ attack reaches 120 with its condition | +90 on the 30+ attack if one of your Pokemon was Knocked Out by damage last turn | None |
Two of the three combine a Burn with a mid-range hit (the GX and SM8 prints), while SM11a is the only one with no status effect at all. The comparison is of printed text only; it is not a ranking of how the cards perform.
None of the four entries prints an Ability. The later Entei V cards (SI 056/414 and the S12a prints) do: a draw Ability usable from the Active Spot. Our Entei V PSA 10 guide shows that later design.
The Illustrators Behind the Era
Three credits cover the four entries, and each one connects to other beast cards in the official database.
| Illustrator | Entei entries here | Other beast entries in the database |
|---|---|---|
| 5ban Graphics | SM3p 011/072 and 073/072 (GX) | Suicune GX SM8 028/095 and 098/095 |
| kawayoo | SM8 022/095 | Suicune KK 004/018 |
| Shin Nagasawa | SM11a 011/064 | Entei SD 014/127; Raikou XY 033/171 and XY8-Br 026/059 |
The database credits Mitsuhiro Arita with the Raikou in SM3p (033/072) and SM8b (034/150), the same artist as the Entei XY 011/171 in the Best of XY pack, but not with any Sun & Moon-code Entei. The Arita Entei is therefore outside this article, and we list it separately: the visible PSA10 Entei XY 011/171 is currently listed at ¥41,088 (~$267).
What We List From These Sets
We do not currently list an Entei or Entei GX print from SM3p, SM8 or SM11a. What we do list from the same SM8 set is below, with the SM8 sealed box as the only product aimed at the set as a whole. The back orders are sourced to order, and each product page shows the current terms.
| Listing (as named by us) | Kind | Our price |
|---|---|---|
| SM8-Super Explosive Impact Japanese Pokemon Booster Box | Sealed box | Currently listed at ¥110,750 (~$719) |
| PSA10 Suicune GX RR [SM8 028/095] | PSA 10 back order | ¥10,499 (~$68) |
| PSA10 Suicune GX SR [SM8 098/095] | PSA 10 back order | ¥33,786 (~$219) |
| PSA10 Professor Elm’s Lecture SR [SM8 102/095] | Visible PSA 10 | Currently listed at ¥49,220 (~$320) |
The rarity letters in that table are the ones our listing names carry (as our listing names them); the official database does not print them. The two Suicune GX listings share the SM8 set with the Entei 022/095 and the 5ban Graphics credit with the Entei GX of SM3p. Another SM8 card we list is the Lugia GX 108/095, offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥130,000 (~$844) — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms.
The sibling guides in this series cover the other eras: the Start Deck 100 guide for SI 055/414 and 056/414, and the full database checklist for every Entei entry.
How to Tell Which Entei You Hold
Read the set code and the number at the bottom of the card before reading the artwork.
| What the card shows | Print it points to |
|---|---|
| エンテイGX, 180 HP, a GX attack | SM3p; 011/072 is the main-set number, 073/072 the number above the set count |
| Basic with 130 HP, attacks ほのおのキバ 20 and ふんか 80+ | SM8 022/095 (kawayoo) |
| Basic with 130 HP, attacks まきかえす 30+ and ほのおのたてがみ 100 | SM11a 011/064, or SD 014/127 (same text; check the set code) |
| Basic with 130 HP, ヒートダッシュ 30 and ほのおのキバ 90 | A different set (SI, S5I or SO), covered in the sibling guides |
If the set code is worn or hidden by a sleeve, the illustrator credit printed on the card narrows the choice: kawayoo points to SM8, Shin Nagasawa to SM11a or SD, and 5ban Graphics to the GX.
Where This Sits Next to the Entei Trademark Report
On October 29, 2026 fan sites reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「マグマの鼓動」 (working English translation: Magma Heartbeat; no official English name exists), which collectors read as a possible Entei set; nothing is announced. Our Entei trademark explainer explains what is confirmed and what is not, and the 2027 sets and trademarks round-up sets all four reported names side by side.

Four entries: SM8 022/095, SM11a 011/064, and two Entei GX entries from SM3p, numbered 011/072 and 073/072. The database does not print rarity letters for them.
What is the difference between Entei GX 011/072 and 073/072?
The printed card text, HP (180) and illustrator (5ban Graphics) are the same on both entries. The 073/072 is numbered above the set’s 072 count, which marks it as the secret-numbered print.
Who illustrated the SM8 Entei 022/095?
The official database credits kawayoo for SM8 022/095, a Basic Entei with 130 HP and the attacks ほのおのキバ (20) and ふんか (80+).
Is the SM11a Entei the same card as the SD 014/127 Entei?
The two share their printed text, HP (130) and illustrator credit (Shin Nagasawa), but they carry different set codes and numbers: SM11a 011/064 and SD 014/127. Check the set code to place a copy.
What is a Sun & Moon-era Entei card worth?
We do not currently list an Entei print from SM3p, SM8 or SM11a, so we give no figure for them. For SM8 as a set, our Booster Box is currently listed at ¥110,750 (~$719), and an Entei we do list is the PSA10 Entei XY 011/171 at ¥41,088 (~$267).
