Every Japanese Mewtwo GX Print

Eight Japanese prints of Mewtwo GX are documented. Four are confirmed directly on Limitless TCG, via multiple independent retail catalogues, or via our own listings (040/072 RR, 075/072 SR, 082/072 Shining, 017/024 RR); the other four — 080/072 HR plus three later reprints — are documented only on Bulbapedia and are flagged as such below.

040/072 RR — SM3+ Shining Legends

This is the set’s regular-rarity Mewtwo GX — RR (Double Rare), illustrated by 5ban Graphics. It is a completely different piece of art from the 082/072 Shining above, despite sharing a set and a card name. Confirmed directly on Limitless TCG.

082/072 Shining — SM3+ Shining Legends

Covered in full above. Limitless TCG’s Japanese database for this set only indexes local cards #1–77, so this secret-rare print is not separately paged there; verification for this specific card rests on Bulbapedia’s print-history table plus four independent retail catalogues that all list it identically as “SM3+ 082/072.”

075/072 SR and 080/072 HR — SM3+ Shining Legends

Two further Mewtwo GX rarities sit between the regular RR and the Shining secret in the same set. 075/072 is printed at SR (Secret Rare), illustrated by 5ban Graphics, and is confirmed directly on Limitless TCG. 080/072 is printed at HR (Rainbow Rare secret), also illustrated by 5ban Graphics per Bulbapedia’s print-history table; Limitless TCG does not separately page this print, consistent with the 082/072 Shining print above. Both are numbered above the set’s 72-card core.

017/024 RR — SMP2 “Great Detective Pikachu”

This print comes from the movie tie-in pack for Detective Pikachu, and its illustration is credited to MPC Film — a movie-still-based treatment that is visually distinct from both Shining Legends prints. It is confirmed directly on Limitless TCG, including name, number, rarity, HP, type, illustrator and set. This exact print is currently listed as a PSA 10:

Bulbapedia’s print-history table also lists three older or reprint releases of Mewtwo GX. These are not independently verified on Limitless TCG, so treat the details below as secondary-source only:

The GX Battle Boost printing is a reprint of the regular-art Mewtwo GX rather than a new illustration. None of these three carries a Limitless-verified JP set code in our source pack, so we’re not attaching release dates to them here.

Do not conflate row 1 (040/072 RR) with row 4 (082/072 Shining) — they share a set and a card name but are visually distinct prints with different illustrators.

Japanese vs English Print

The two anchor prints in this guide split cleanly on their English-market status:

• 082/072 Shining has a closest English equivalent in EN Shining Legends 78/73, “Rare Secret” (Shining Holo). It is the same character and the same set tier, but not an identical art treatment — the Japanese and English Shining Legends secret rares were illustrated and numbered separately, as is standard for this set’s secret-rare block.
• 017/024 RR (Detective Pikachu, SMP2) has no English-market equivalent in our source material. SMP2 was a Japan-only movie promotional pack, and we found no English release carrying this specific illustration or numbering.
