Six weeks apart, two very different chase mechanics, and a price gap that doesn’t line up with card count. That’s the short version of SV6 versus SV6a.
SV6 Mask of Change and SV6a Night Wanderer are two Japanese Scarlet & Violet-era sets released back to back in 2024. They get grouped together because of the release window, but the sets themselves are built differently — one is nearly 40% bigger, one carries the Ogerpon ex mask cards that headlined the era, and the two currently sit almost ¥5,000 apart in our own listings. This guide lines up what’s actually verified about each set — card counts, release dates, named chase cards, and our current box prices — so you can see the real differences before choosing between them.
Prices below are converted at ¥159/USD (September 2026 rate, stated once here).
SV6 Mask of Change has 133 cards, released April 26, 2024, and introduced the Ogerpon ex mask cards as its headline chase mechanic — currently listed at ¥14,700 (~$92). SV6a Night Wanderer has 94 cards, released six weeks later on June 7, 2024, and its chase pulls are Munkidori ex and Pecharunt ex — currently listed at ¥9,984 (~$63), roughly 47% cheaper than SV6.
SV6 vs SV6a at a Glance
Both sets sit in the same Scarlet & Violet-era window, but the raw numbers are further apart than the “released six weeks apart” framing suggests.
| Set | Set code | Cards | Released | Current price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mask of Change | SV6 | 133 | April 26, 2024 | ¥14,700 (~$92) |
| Night Wanderer | SV6a | 94 | June 7, 2024 | ¥9,984 (~$63) |
SV6 carries 39 more cards than SV6a (133 vs 94) — a straightforward structural difference in set size, not a claim about how easy either chase card is to pull. The sections below cover what each set is actually known for.
Inside SV6 Mask of Change: The Ogerpon Ex Chase
Mask of Change (SV6) is the set that introduced the Ogerpon mask-form ex cards as its headline chase mechanic. Two of them are directly documented:
Ogerpon Hearthflame Mask ex (SV6 #126) is a Special Art Rare, Fire type, 210 HP. Ogerpon Cornerstone Mask ex (SV6 #128) is also a Special Art Rare, this time Fighting type at the same 210 HP. Both are part of the four-mask Ogerpon ex line that Mask of Change built around — the set’s own name is a direct reference to the mask-swapping mechanic. For the full 133-card breakdown, see our Mask of Change (SV6) card list.
Note: our own product listing for this set uses the internal SKU title “Transformation Mask” — the correct set name used in this article and across our card-list content is Mask of Change.
Inside SV6a Night Wanderer: Munkidori ex and Pecharunt ex
Night Wanderer (SV6a) followed six weeks after SV6, on June 7, 2024, with a smaller 94-card set built around two Darkness-type ex cards.
Munkidori ex (SV6a #88, JP: マシマシラex) is the set’s headline chase card — Special Art Rare, Darkness type, 210 HP. Pecharunt ex (SV6a #90, JP: モモワロウex) sits alongside it as a second Special Art Rare, also Darkness type, at 190 HP. Full details are in our Night Wanderer (SV6a) card list.
Card Count vs Price: What the Numbers Actually Show
SV6 is listed at ¥14,700 (~$92) and SV6a at ¥9,984 (~$63) — SV6 currently runs roughly 47% higher. That tracks reasonably well with the card-count gap: SV6 has 39 more cards than SV6a (133 vs 94), and it’s the set carrying the four-mask Ogerpon ex line rather than a two-card ex pairing.
What this comparison does not tell you is how often either chase card actually turns up in a booster box — we don’t have verified pull-rate data for either set, so none is stated here. Card count and current listed price are both real, citable numbers; how many boxes it takes to hit a specific Special Art Rare is a separate question this article doesn’t answer.
The Ogerpon Mask Line Beyond SV6
The Ogerpon mask concept didn’t stay confined to SV6. Ogerpon Teal Mask ex (SV8a #234) turned up later as an Ultra Rare, Grass type, 210 HP card in Terastal Festival ex — a separate set released after both SV6 and SV6a. If you’re specifically collecting the Ogerpon mask-form ex cards across their various printings, it’s worth knowing the set doesn’t stop at SV6; our Mask of Change best-cards rundown covers the SV6 side in more depth.
Which Box Fits Your Collection
Since neither box has verified pull-rate data, the honest way to choose between them is by which chase cards you’re actually after, not by which one is the “better value” per box:
- Want the Ogerpon ex mask cards (Hearthflame Mask ex, Cornerstone Mask ex) or a larger 133-card set — SV6 Mask of Change is the one that contains them, currently listed at ¥14,700 (~$92).
- Want Munkidori ex or Pecharunt ex, or prefer the lower entry price on a smaller 94-card set — SV6a Night Wanderer is currently listed at ¥9,984 (~$63).
- Want both chase lines — the sets are separate products with separate chase cards, so a mixed order covers both without either one substituting for the other.
