Friends in Sinnoh isn’t a Pokemon at all — it’s a Trainer card, and it was printed twice in the same Japanese set. One version is a straightforward numbered pull. The other is numbered 247 in a set that only officially runs to 172, carries a full-art treatment, and is the one collectors actually go looking for.
This guide covers exactly what the Secret Rare (SR) 247/172 print of Friends in Sinnoh is, how it differs from its regular 154/172 counterpart, where it sits inside VSTAR Universe, and what a PSA10 copy currently costs out of our own Tokyo stock.
Friends in Sinnoh is a Supporter Trainer card depicting Lucas, Dawn, Cynthia and Volkner, printed in VSTAR Universe (S12a) as a regular card at 154/172 and as a Secret Rare at 247/172 — the number that runs past the set’s nominal 172-card count. Our own graded copy, PSA10 Friends in Sinnoh SR (247/172) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), is currently listed at ¥13,882 (~$87.3).
Prices are current listings as of September 2026, converted at ¥159/USD.
What Is Friends in Sinnoh SR (247/172)?

Friends in Sinnoh (Japanese: シンオウの他間たち, “Sinnoh no Nakama-tachi”) is a Supporter Trainer card — not a Pokemon card, so there’s no HP or attack text to read here. The artwork brings together four characters from the Sinnoh-region Pokemon games: Lucas, Dawn, Cynthia and Volkner.
The card at the centre of this guide is the Secret Rare (SR) printing, numbered 247/172. That number is the first clue something is different about it — VSTAR Universe’s nominal set count is 172 cards, so any card numbered above that is a secret/chase-rarity print layered on top of the base set.
Two Prints, One Set: Regular 154/172 vs SR 247/172
VSTAR Universe printed Friends in Sinnoh twice, and the two versions sit at opposite ends of the set’s numbering:
| Printing | Card Number | Rarity | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular | 154/172 | Standaard | Sits within the set’s official 172-card run |
| Secret Rare | 247/172 | SR | Full-art treatment, numbered beyond the nominal set count |
The 154/172 print is the ordinary version you’d expect to find distributed through the main set. The 247/172 SR is the one this guide is about — it’s the full-art secret rare, and it’s the print our own PSA10 stock is graded from.
The fraction printed on the card is the fastest way to tell the two apart. If the bottom of the card reads “247/172,” you’re holding the SR; “154/172” is the regular print.
Sinnoh isn’t the only region with a multi-character Supporter card from this stretch of the Sword & Shield era. We cover the Hisui-region equivalent, published alongside this guide, in our Friends in Hisui SR card guide.
VSTAR Universe (S12a): The Set This Card Comes From
VSTAR Universe is a Japanese high-class pack, released on December 2, 2022. It was the final Japanese sub-expansion of the Sword & Shield era before the Scarlet & Violet series took over. The set’s own numbering runs to 172 cards, though Bulbapedia lists an overall, all-regional print-run count of 262 once every language and secret-rare variant is counted.
As a high-class pack released at the close of an era, VSTAR Universe leaned heavily on full-art Supporter and Trainer reprints alongside VSTAR Pokemon — which is exactly the slot Friends in Sinnoh SR occupies.

The English Crown Zenith Connection
Friends in Sinnoh wasn’t kept exclusive to Japan. The same artwork and character line-up was later reprinted internationally in Crown Zenith, the English-language set, as a regular card at #131/159 and as a Full Art version at #149/159.
It’s worth knowing this connection exists if you come across the card while browsing English-language listings — but the Japanese VSTAR Universe SR (247/172) and the English Crown Zenith Full Art (149/159) are different prints from different markets. They don’t share a price history, and nothing here should be read as saying one is worth the same as the other. If you’re specifically after the Japanese SR printing, the card number to look for is 247/172.
Understanding Secret-Rare Numbering: More Japanese Examples
Friends in Sinnoh’s jump from a 172-card set to card number 247 isn’t a one-off. Japanese sets routinely stack secret and chase rarities above the set’s official count, and it shows up across sets and product types. A few examples from cards we carry:

None of these three are related to Friends in Sinnoh in theme or set — they’re shown here purely to illustrate that a card number sitting above a set’s nominal total is a normal, widespread convention in the modern Japanese TCG, not something unique to VSTAR Universe.
