Mitsuhiro Arita’s Entei Rows in the Official Database

The pokemon-card.com database lists 31 entries for Entei across all eras it covers. Three of them credit Mitsuhiro Arita, and they are laid out below. The database does not print rarity letters, so none is stated here.

The two XY 011/171 entries have the same number, the same credit, the same HP and the same printed text. The database gives no field that separates the two entries; this guide treats them as two entries for one printed card.

Entei XY 011/171 (The Best of XY)

The Entei on this card is the Arita card from the text table above. Our PSA 10 listing for it is named “PSA10 Entei [XY 011/171] (High Class Pack “The Best of XY”)”, and it is currently listed at ¥41,088 (~$267). Two Entei in One Set: 014/081 and 015/081

Bandit Ring prints two different Entei cards, and the official database separates them cleanly:

The card text of 014/081, rendered (rendering): もえるほうこう discards the top 4 cards of your deck and attaches all Energy found among them to your Pokémon in any way you like; コンバットブレイズ does 20 damage plus 20 more for each of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon. That text is specific to this card and to CP4 016/131, and it is not the Arita card’s text.

If you are holding a Bandit Ring Entei, the number in the corner decides everything: 014/081 is the Saito card, 015/081 is the Arita card. The two numbers are one apart, and the artwork and HP differ.

Entei by Illustrator: Where Arita Sits in the 31 Entries

Setting the Arita rows against the rest of the database shows how the credit changes from era to era. The table groups the Entei entries from the XY block onward by illustrator, using only what the database prints.

Reading the table, the Arita rows are the ones that combine two features: a credit to an illustrator who, per our Arita guide, joined in the 1996 prototype era and the Ancient Trait Θ Double text. The Entei cards of the later eras print other attacks entirely, such as ヒートダッシュ and ほのおのキバ on the kodama cards and ブレイズボール on the toriyufu cards. So when you see an Entei in a binder, the attack names are a second check beside the number: フレイムバリア and ヒートタックル point to Arita, もえるほうこう points to Saito.

How to Tell the Arita Prints Apart

Three checks sort every Entei you are likely to meet from this era:

1. Read the number. 011/171 is the Best of XY card, 015/081 is the Bandit Ring Arita card, 014/081 is the Bandit Ring Saito card, and 016/131 is the Saito card from set code CP4.
2. Read the HP. Both Arita prints show 130; both Saito prints show 120.
3. Read the trait line. The Ancient Trait Θ Double line (two Pokémon Tools allowed) is on the Arita cards only.
