Customs Duties and Import Taxes

General information

• All orders are shipped directly from Japan.
• All international shipments are carried by FedEx (International Connect Plus or International Priority). FedEx may use local delivery partners for the final leg.
• Unless DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) applies, product prices and shipping fees do not include customs duties, VAT, GST, or any other local import taxes, nor any disbursement, advancement, brokerage, or customs clearance fees charged by the carrier. All such charges are the sole responsibility of the recipient.
• Where DDP does not apply, applicable duties and taxes are determined by the destination country’s customs authority and are collected by the carrier prior to or at the time of delivery. Refusing or failing to pay these charges (including any carrier disbursement or clearance fee) is treated as a refused delivery: under FedEx’s Conditions of Carriage the shipment may be returned, stored at a daily charge, sold, destroyed, or otherwise disposed of, with return and storage costs billed back to us. In such cases, the order will be treated as cancelled and any refund will be issued only after deduction of all duties and taxes incurred, carrier fees, return shipping costs, disposal costs, and applicable cancellation fees; the original outbound shipping cost is non-refundable except where mandatory consumer law provides otherwise. If these deductions equal or exceed the amount paid, no refund will be due.

Carrier fees, customs value, and declarations

• Carrier disbursement and clearance fees: In addition to government-imposed duties and taxes, the carrier (e.g., FedEx) may charge its own service fees for advancing duties and taxes to the authorities or completing customs clearance on your behalf — commonly called a disbursement fee, advancement fee, brokerage fee, or customs clearance/handling fee. These fees are set and billed by the carrier under its own published terms. Where DDP does not apply, they are payable directly to the carrier and are the responsibility of the recipient; Samurai Sword Tokyo does not impose, collect, or receive any part of them and cannot refund, reimburse, offset, or waive them. Where DDP applies (currently the United States and US territories), FedEx bills these fees to us, not to you — we absorb them, and you pay nothing beyond the amounts shown at checkout.
• What your country taxes: Our commercial invoices declare the product price and the freight charge. How these are taxed depends on the destination: in the EU and the United Kingdom (among others), import VAT is calculated on the goods plus shipping and insurance, plus any customs duty. The United States and Canada are exceptions — they assess on the goods value alone, excluding international shipping. Any tax assessed on the shipping portion is imposed by the destination authority under its own rules; it is not an additional charge imposed by, or payable to, Samurai Sword Tokyo.
• Accurate declarations only: We are legally required to declare accurate values and contents on all customs documents. We do not mark shipments as gifts, declare reduced values, or alter shipping documents, and all such requests will be declined.
• Payment disputes: Where duties and taxes are paid on delivery (all destinations except the United States and US territories), they are billed by, and paid directly to, the carrier or the destination authorities. We do not set, collect, or receive any part of these amounts and cannot refund or waive them; questions about how they were calculated should be raised with the carrier or your local customs authority. Where duties and taxes are collected at checkout (currently the United States and US territories), the estimated import tariff and the CBP Merchandise Processing Fee are shown as separate lines and are part of the total you pay us; if an order is cancelled before shipment, these lines are refunded in full. If you have a problem with a charge, please contact us first — we resolve most issues faster than a payment dispute can. If you do open a dispute, we will respond with the order record, shipping and delivery evidence, and the carrier’s billing records. Your payment provider decides the outcome under its own rules.
• Your acknowledgement: By placing an order for delivery to a destination where DDP does not apply, you accept that the duties, taxes, and carrier fees described on this page are yours to pay; that the exact amounts are determined solely by the destination authorities and the carrier and cannot be known or guaranteed by us in advance; and that they are not amounts we can refund, because we never receive them. Any dispute regarding the amount, basis, or calculation of such charges must be raised directly with the carrier or your local customs authority, not with Samurai Sword Tokyo. Nothing above limits any statutory consumer right in your own country.

✅ DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)

• DDP currently applies to the United States (including US territories). All other destinations ship DAP (formerly DDU) — duties and taxes, where charged, are payable on delivery.
• When FedEx operates under DDP terms, FedEx charges its duty/tax advancement and customs clearance fees to us as the shipper. We absorb these; they are never billed to you separately.
• The final duty amount may vary based on customs classification, declared value, applicable exchange rates, and FedEx operational policies.
