Slowbro Pitch Black Card vs the Japanese Abyss Eye Pokemon Print

Slowbro Pitch Black Card vs the Japanese Abyss Eye Pokemon Print

Slowbro in Pitch Black has two English prints, PBL 30 (Uncommon) and PBL 90 (Art Rare), plus the MEP Promo 83 prerelease promo, and the two Pitch Black prints trace to Japanese Abyss Eye (M5) cards: the Uncommon 029/081 and the Art Rare 087/081. Limitless TCG and Bulbapedia give those pairings, and the official Pokemon Card Game database on pokemon-card.com, as of October 1, 2026, prints both Japanese cards as ヤドラン with 130 HP and the same two attacks.

The third English print, MEP Promo 83 by Yuriko Akase, has no Japanese print. Mega Slowbro ex PBL 31 is a different card, and its only Japanese print is the M-P 071 Pokémon Card Gym promo, not an Abyss Eye card. Every match is a card-level match; no official page states that the English set equals the Japanese set.

We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD, approximate.

Key Takeaways
  • Pitch Black PBL 30 (Uncommon, CHORISO) pairs with Abyss Eye 029/081 (U, CHORISO); PBL 90 (Art Rare) pairs with 087/081 (AR). The illustrator credit reads “M_kayu” in the official database and “Mékayu” on Limitless and Bulbapedia.
  • MEP Promo 83 (Yuriko Akase) has no Japanese print, and Mega Slowbro ex PBL 31 pairs with the M-P 071/M-P Gym promo instead of Abyss Eye.
  • No single-card listing of the Abyss Eye Slowbro is offered here; the M5 Abyss Eye (Pitch Black) box is offered in the No Shrink option at ¥8,603 (~$56).

Slowbro in Pitch Black and Abyss Eye, Number by Number

Bulbapedia’s Pitch Black set page says the set “includes cards released in the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion” (as of September 30, 2026). Its Slowbro card page, as of October 1, 2026, connects the English Slowbro prints to the Japanese ones in the rows that follow, and Limitless TCG lists Abyss Eye #29 and #87 as the Japanese prints on both the PBL 30 and PBL 90 pages.

English print English rarity (Limitless / Bulbapedia) Illustrator (Limitless) Japanese print Japanese rarity (official database) Illustrator (official database)
Slowbro PBL 30 Uncommon / Uncommon CHORISO M5 029/081 U CHORISO

Mega Slowbro ex PBL 31 (a different card) Double Rare / Double Rare 5ban Graphics M-P 071/M-P No rarity icon 5ban Graphics

The credit on the Uncommon pair reads CHORISO on both sides, which is the strongest match signal available: the same illustrator credit. On the Art Rare pair the credit is one name in two spellings, depending on the source. The official database prints “M_kayu” on 087/081; Limitless and Bulbapedia print “Mékayu” on PBL 90 and on the Japanese card. Each source is quoted as it prints it. No source states that the English and Japanese artwork is identical.

Bulbapedia prints the English numbers with a /084 denominator (030/084 and 090/084); Limitless prints no denominator, and the official English page states the set size only as “Over 115”.

The Japanese Abyss Eye Slowbro: U 029/081 and AR 087/081

Abyss Eye (M5) is the Japanese MEGA expansion pack that released on Friday, May 22, 2026, at a suggested retail price of ¥200 including tax with five Karten pro Pack, according to the official product page at pokemon-card.com/ex/m5. The official database holds 118 M5 entries: 81 numbered up to 081 (C 38, U 27, R 8, RR 8) and 37 numbered above it (AR 12, SR 18, SAR 6, MUR 1). Slowbro sits in both blocks.

Slowbro U 029/081

Slowbro U 029/081 M5
ヤドラン U — 029/081 — Abyss Eye (M5)

The regular print is a U credited to CHORISO. The database gives Stage 1, 130 HP, Psychic type, weakness Darkness ×2, resistance Fighting −30 and a retreat cost of three. Limitless’s Japanese page for the card reads the same values and adds that it evolves from ヤドン and carries regulation mark J; the database page does not print the regulation mark, so the letter is Limitless’s alone.

The two attacks are スッカラカン (one Psychic energy, 50+ damage: if you have no cards in your hand, 160 more damage) and しねんのずつき (three colorless energy, 110 damage, no effect text). The official database prints the same HP, attacks and weakness on 029/081 and 087/081, so the two Japanese prints play identically and differ in rarity, artwork and number.

Slowbro AR 087/081

Slowbro AR 087/081 M5
ヤドラン AR — 087/081 — Abyss Eye (M5)

The AR is the Art Rare print, numbered above the printed set size like every AR in the set. The database credits it to “M_kayu”; Limitless and Bulbapedia print “Mékayu”. Bulbapedia’s card page describes the English PBL 90 as a Full Art illustration rare print by Mékayu, first released in the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion, and the regular print as artwork by CHORISO.

Limitless labels the Japanese 087/081 “Art Rare” and the Japanese 029/081 “Uncommon”; those are Limitless’s own labels, and the official database shows the icons AR and U.

The Three English Slowbro Prints

Limitless TCG lists three English Slowbro cards that connect to the Japanese ヤドラン. Each page, as of October 1, 2026, prints the same card values: Slowbro, Psychic, 130 HP, Stage 1 evolving from Slowpoke, weakness Darkness, resistance Fighting, retreat cost 3, and regulation mark J (per Limitless).

English print Limitless rarity label Illustrator (Limitless) Japanese prints named on the Limitless page
Pitch Black (PBL) #30 Uncommon CHORISO Abyss Eye #29; Abyss Eye #87
Pitch Black (PBL) #90 Art Rare Mékayu Abyss Eye #29; Abyss Eye #87
Mega Promos (MEP) #83 No rarity label Yuriko Akase Abyss Eye #29; Abyss Eye #87

Limitless names both Abyss Eye numbers on all three pages. The illustrator column is the useful separator: CHORISO on PBL 30, Mékayu on PBL 90 and Yuriko Akase on the promo. Bulbapedia’s labels for the same prints are Uncommon, Illustration Rare and no rarity; Limitless’s “Art Rare” and Bulbapedia’s “Illustration Rare” are each source’s own naming for the Full Art print.

Pitch Black released worldwide on July 17, 2026 according to Bulbapedia and the official English product page, which prints “Over 115” cards and a Standard-legal deck. Limitless counts 120 cards in the set: 84 main-set cards (numbers 1 to 84), 11 Art Rares (85 to 95), 18 Ultra Rares, 6 Special Art Rares and 1 Secret Rare. The Slowbro Art Rare, PBL 90, falls inside the Art Rare block.

MEP Promo 83: The English Print With No Japanese Twin

None of the 14 ヤドラン rows in the official Japanese database credits Yuriko Akase, and Limitless credits MEP #83 to her. Bulbapedia explains the print this way (as of October 1, 2026): in Taiwan and Hong Kong the Slowbro card was reprinted as a Traditional Chinese M-P promotional card with new artwork by Yuriko Akase, given in a promo card pack to players who won three or more “New Expansion Battle” matches from June 5 to 26, 2026 while battling with at least four Pokémon cards from the Abyss Eye expansion.

Bulbapedia adds that the same Traditional Chinese promo print was released internationally as an MEP Black Star Promotional card, was one of the Prerelease promos for Pitch Black, and was available in the Pitch Black Build & Battle Box. A print with a gold foil “Staff” stamp was given to those overseeing Prerelease Tournaments. Those distribution details are Bulbapedia’s alone.

For a Japanese-print collector the practical point is narrow: if the goal is the Japanese Abyss Eye Slowbro, the promo is not it, and there is no Japanese card to source in its place.

Mega Slowbro ex PBL 31 Is a Different Card

Mega Slowbro ex M-P 071/M-P
メガヤドランex — 071/M-P — M-P Promotional cards

Mega Slowbro ex (PBL 31, Double Rare on Limitless and Bulbapedia) shares the Pitch Black set with the Slowbro cards but is not an Abyss Eye card. The official database lists メガヤドランex under M-P 071/M-P, with no rarity icon, credited to 5ban Graphics, Stage 1, HP 330, Psychic type, weakness Darkness ×2, resistance Fighting −30 and retreat cost three.

Its attack is シェルネードスピン (three Psychic energy, 180 damage): during the opponent’s next turn, if this Pokémon takes damage from an attack, 12 damage counters go on the Pokémon that used it. The card’s rule text says the opponent takes three Prize cards when a Mega Evolution ex is knocked out. Limitless lists the Japanese print as Mega Promotional Cards #71 and no other Japanese print.

Bulbapedia (as of October 1, 2026) calls the Japanese print one of seven M-P Promotional cards in Pokémon Card Gym Promo Card Packs 3, distributed at Pokémon Card Gym venues from February 1, 2026, and notes that it carries the Pokémon Card Gym logo. It pairs the card with Pitch Black 031/084, a Double Rare.

Every Japanese Slowbro Print in the Official Database

The official database, as of October 1, 2026, holds 14 rows named ヤドラン. Only the two M5 rows match the Pitch Black cards; the others are older prints of the same Pokémon with different card text. Rows with “no icon” show no rarity icon in the database.

The SV2a card is a different card from the Abyss Eye Slowbro despite the shared 130 HP; its Master Ball Mirror version is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥13,158 (~$85).

How to Tell the English and Japanese Slowbro Apart

Five checks separate the prints when a card is in hand or in a photo.

  1. Language and name. The Japanese cards read ヤドラン; the English cards read Slowbro.
  2. Number. The Japanese cards are numbered /081 (029/081 and 087/081). Bulbapedia prints the English numbers as /084, and Limitless lists them as #30 and #90.
  3. Illustrator line. CHORISO appears on both Uncommon prints, Mékayu (or “M_kayu” in the Japanese database) on both Art Rares, and Yuriko Akase on the promo only.
  4. Rarity. A full-art Slowbro is the Art Rare; the regular print is the Uncommon. The promo carries no rarity label on Limitless.
  5. Set or promo mark. The Japanese cards are Abyss Eye (M5); the English cards are Pitch Black (PBL) or Mega Promos (MEP). Mega Slowbro ex PBL 31 has 330 HP and is a separate card.

HP, type, weakness, resistance and retreat cost are identical between the English pages on Limitless and the Japanese database rows, so those fields do not separate the prints. The guide to reading Japanese Pokemon cards and the Japanese vs English Pokemon cards comparison cover the general differences.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

How many English Slowbro prints connect to Abyss Eye?

Limitless TCG lists three English Slowbro prints connected to the Japanese ヤドラン: PBL 30 (Uncommon), PBL 90 (Art Rare) and Mega Promos #83 (Yuriko Akase). Mega Slowbro ex PBL 31 is a separate Double Rare card, not another Slowbro print, as of October 1, 2026.

Which Japanese cards match Slowbro PBL 30 and PBL 90?

Bulbapedia pairs PBL 30 with Abyss Eye (M5) 029/081, a U credited to CHORISO, and PBL 90 with 087/081, an AR. Limitless lists Abyss Eye #29 and #87 on both English pages. No source states that the artwork is identical; the illustrator credit is the match.

When did Pitch Black and Abyss Eye release?

The official English page gives July 17, 2026 for Pitch Black, with “Over 115” cards. The official Japanese product page gives Friday, May 22, 2026 for Abyss Eye, at ¥200 per pack including tax with five Karten pro Pack. The database holds 118 M5 entries.

Does the Slowbro promo MEP 83 have a Japanese version?

No Japanese print is known for it. The card is credited to Yuriko Akase, and none of the 14 ヤドラン rows in the official database carries that credit. Bulbapedia describes it as a Traditional Chinese promo released internationally as an MEP promo and a Pitch Black Prerelease promo.

Is Mega Slowbro ex PBL 31 an Abyss Eye card?

No. Its only Japanese print is M-P 071/M-P, one of seven promos in Pokémon Card Gym Promo Card Packs 3 per Bulbapedia, credited to 5ban Graphics and carrying 330 HP. The official database does not list メガヤドランex under M5, so it is not part of Abyss Eye.

How much does a Japanese Slowbro AR 087/081 cost?

On SNKRDUNK the raw product row showed ¥1,000, its display floor and not verified as a real ask, and a PSA 10 lowest ask of ¥6,660 (~$43), with two listings shown, on September 30, 2026. These are asking prices. We offer the M5 box at ¥8,603 (~$56) in the No Shrink option.
