Mega Darkrai ex Mega Attack Rare 217/165 is one of four MA cards the Pokémon Company showed on August 31, 2026, and as of October 1, 2026 it is a card with an official image, a printed number and no official product page. The Pokémon Company’s Japanese and English YouTube videos carried the card under the caption „Cards shown are under development and may differ from the final products“, and pokemon.com’s recap of the World Championships closing ceremonies names „Mega Darkrai ex“ among the Mega attack rare sneak peeks. Pokébeach placed it in „what is presumably February’s MEGA x MEGA Parade“.
The card is a re-illustration, not a new design. The render prints 280 HP and the same two attacks as the four Mega Darkrai ex cards already in the official card database from Abyss Eye (M5, released May 22, 2026): an RR, an SR, a SAR and a MUR. What changes is the artwork, the illustrator credit (DOM, where the four earlier prints credit 5ban Graphics or AKIRA EGAWA) and the attack name set across the picture. Each of those prints has an English counterpart in Pitch Black, and the MA version has none.
We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD, approximate; asking prices from the Japanese market are listing prices, not sales.
Official: the MA card was shown in the Pokémon Company’s August 31, 2026 video. Printed on the render: 217/165, 280 HP, DOM. Reported (Pokébeach): the set is MEGA x MEGA Parade, with a reported Japanese release date of Friday, February 19, 2027. Not confirmed: pull rate, how many MA cards the set holds, English release. The Abyss Eye box that carries every earlier Mega Darkrai ex print is currently listed at ¥8,445 (~$55) in its Sealed option.
All four Japanese Mega Darkrai ex prints from the official database, the card text as printed on the render, the Pitch Black English prints per Limitless TCG, our PSA 10 back orders and SNKRDUNK asks dated September 30, 2026. The next update follows an official reveal or product page for the set.
What Was Shown on August 31, 2026
The Japanese channel’s video 「【公式】ポケモンカードゲーム「ex★」」 and the English channel’s „NEW ex★ Series & Mega Lucario Z ex Reveal | PokémonXP and Pokémon Worlds 2026“ were posted on August 31, 2026, after the closing ceremony of the 2026 World Championships in San Francisco. pokemon.com’s recap of the ceremony describes „sneak peeks at Mega attack rare cards featuring Mega Darkrai ex*, Mega Zygarde ex*, Mega Greninja ex*, and Mega Rayquaza ex*“. The recap says nothing about which product the four cards belong to, and pokemon-card.com’s own news entry for the video (005613, dated August 31, 2026) names only メガルカリオZex.

That split holds for every statement about the card: the card itself is shown officially, its numbers are read from an under-development render, and its set is a report. The four-card Mega Attack Rare guide covers all four reveals side by side, and the Mega Attack Rare complete list adds the ten MA cards of MEGA Dream ex.
The Card as Printed on the Render
The render shows メガダークライex as a Basic Pokémon, Darkness type, with the gold rule bar 「メガシンカexルール メガシンカexがきぜつしたとき、相手はサイドを3枚とる。」 (when a Mega Evolution ex is Knocked Out, the opponent takes 3 Prize cards) and the tag 「ダークライがメガシンカしたすがた」. Card text is rendered in English paraphrase; an attack name marked (rendering) is our translation of the Japanese name, not an official English name.
| Field | As printed on the render |
|---|---|
| Number and rarity | 217/165, MA (Mega Attack Rare); regulation mark J |
| Stage, HP, type | Basic (たね), HP 280, Darkness (悪) |
| Attack 1 | ナイトレイド (Night Raid, rendering): Darkness, Darkness, 110+. If any of your Benched Pokémon have damage counters on them, this attack does 110 more damage. |
| Attack 2 | アビスアイ (Abyss Eye): Darkness, Darkness, Darkness. If your opponent’s Active Pokémon is affected by a Special Zustand, that Pokémon is Knocked Out. |
| Weakness / resistance / retreat | Grass ×2 / none / 2 Energy |
| Illustrator | DOM |
| Lettering across the artwork | „ABYSS EYE“ |
| Copyright line | ©2027 Pokémon / Nintendo / Creatures / GAME FREAK |
Every gameplay value matches the four Abyss Eye prints in the official database: HP 280, Darkness, ナイトレイド for two Darkness Energy with the same Bench condition, アビスアイ for three Darkness Energy with the same Special Zustand clause, Grass ×2 weakness, retreat cost 2. The lettering is the difference worth noting. Each of the four MA renders sets an attack name in oversized type across the illustration, and the name on this one, ABYSS EYE, is also the English rendering of アビスアイ, the Japanese set the card was first printed in. On the Mega Rayquaza ex MA render the lettering reads STORM EMERALDA, again the source set’s name and the card’s own attack. The 2027 copyright year is the one the under-development renders carry; the official caption says the cards may change before release.
Every Japanese Mega Darkrai ex Print in the Official Database
The official card database on pokemon-card.com lists four cards under the exact name メガダークライex, all in M5 アビスアイ (Abyss Eye), all printed over a /081 denominator. The MA render is the fifth Japanese artwork, and the first with a /165 denominator.
| Number | Rarity | Illustrator | Set | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 217/165 | MA | DOM | Reported: MEGA x MEGA Parade | Official image, printed on an under-development render |
The credits tell the prints apart faster than the pictures do. 5ban Graphics drew the RR, the SR and the MUR; AKIRA EGAWA drew the SAR; DOM, the credit on the MA render, appears on none of the four. 5ban Graphics is the dominant credit of the set’s main block: the official database lists the name on five of the eight RR cards (004 Lurantis ex, 015 Wailord ex, 026 Mega Zeraora ex, 036 Mega Chandelure ex and 046 Mega Darkrai ex) and on seven of the 18 SR cards, 094 through 100, which includes the Mega Darkrai ex SR. DOM is credited on two Abyss Eye secret rares, the AR 093/081 Silvally and the SAR 116/081 グラジオの決戦, and on three of the ten MEGA Dream ex Mega Attack Rares (Mega Eelektross ex 225, Mega Diancie ex 227 and Mega Dragonite ex 232, all /193). A Mega Darkrai ex with a /165 denominator and a DOM credit is therefore the MA version; one with /081 is an Abyss Eye print, and the rarity code separates the four of those.
The same Pokémon also exists as older, differently named cards, which our Darkrai cards guide covers. The four database rows are the cards named メガダークライex only.
English Mega Darkrai ex: Pitch Black and the Promo
Pitch Black (PBL) is the English expansion that carries the Abyss Eye cards. pokemon.com dates its release to July 17, 2026, Limitless TCG lists it with 120 cards, and Bulbapedia states that it „includes cards released in the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion“. Limitless TCG, as of October 1, 2026, lists four Mega Darkrai ex cards in Pitch Black and one in the Mega Promos list, every one with regulation mark J.
| English print (Limitless label) | Illustrator | Japanese print with the same credit |
|---|---|---|
| Pitch Black 48, Double Rare | 5ban Graphics | M5 046/081 RR |
| Pitch Black 101, Ultra Rare | 5ban Graphics | M5 099/081 SR |
| Pitch Black 116, Special Art Rare | AKIRA EGAWA | M5 114/081 SAR |
| Pitch Black 120, Secret Rare | 5ban Graphics | M5 118/081 MUR |
| Mega Promos 90 | 5ban Graphics | Not confirmed: 5ban Graphics is credited on three Japanese prints |
| MA 217/165 | DOM (Japanese render) | No English print exists or has been announced |
The pairing rests on the illustrator credit shown on both Limitless pages and on the Japanese print list each English page carries (M5 numbers 46, 99, 114 and 118). Because 5ban Graphics is credited three times on each side, the RR, SR and MUR are matched in rarity-tier order; the SAR is matched by its credit alone.
No source states that the MA card has an English counterpart, and the English side offers one precedent for how Mega Attack Rares travel. Bulbapedia states that the rarity was „introduced in the Ascended Heroes expansion, originally released in the Japanese MEGA Dream ex subset“; MEGA Dream ex was released in Japan on November 28, 2025 and Ascended Heroes in English on January 30, 2026. The English release record for MEGA x MEGA Parade keeps the dated statements on that question.
PSA 10 Back Orders and Dated Asks
The SAR and MUR versions are offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥31,314 (~$203) for the SAR 114/081 and ¥59,140 (~$384) for the MUR 118/081 — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms. The route is explained on our PSA 10 back order page. The physical PSA 10 slabs of the same two cards are sold out at the time of this update; sourcing requests go through Quick Order.
| Our PSA 10 listing | SNKRDUNK raw lowest ask | SNKRDUNK PSA 10 lowest ask | Datum | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 046/081 RR | Not listed | No dated figure | No dated figure | — |
| 099/081 SR | Not listed | No dated figure | No dated figure | — |
| 114/081 SAR | PSA 10 back order, ¥31,314 (~$203) | ¥13,555 | ¥31,500 | September 30, 2026 |
| 118/081 MUR | PSA 10 back order, ¥59,140 (~$384) | ¥23,500 | ¥58,700 | September 30, 2026 |
| 217/165 MA | Not listed; no card has been printed | None | None | — |
The asks are SNKRDUNK’s lowest listings on September 30, 2026, never sales. Read across the rows, the MUR’s raw ask (¥23,500) and PSA 10 ask (¥58,700) both sit above the SAR’s (¥13,555 and ¥31,500), and in each print the PSA 10 ask is higher than the raw ask. Our back-order prices and the asks sit close together for both prints. The RR and SR have no dated figure in this update. The MA card has no price history because no copy has been printed: the MEGA Dream ex Mega Attack Rares are the only reference for where an MA sits against the SAR and MUR of the same Pokémon, and the complete list sets those listings out.
Abyss Eye (M5): The Box Behind the Earlier Prints
The official product page for ポケモンカードゲーム MEGA 拡張パック「アビスアイ」 prints a release date of May 22, 2026, a price of 200 yen (tax included) and five Karten pro Pack. The official database lists 118 cards: 81 numbered up to /081 and 37 secret rares above it, made up of 12 AR, 18 SR, 6 SAR and one MUR. Mega Darkrai ex holds one of the eight RR cards in the main numbering (046/081), an SR (099/081), a SAR (114/081) and the set’s only MUR (118/081). The other SARs in the set are Mega Zeraora ex 112, Mega Chandelure ex 113, Morpeko ex 115, グラジオの決戦 116 and ムク 117. The product page does not print a packs-per-box figure.

Our M5 box listing has two options with separate prices: the Sealed option at ¥8,445 (~$55) and the No Shrink option at ¥8,603 (~$56). The Damaged Box products are separate listings: the Damaged Box at ¥7,796 (~$51) and the No Shrink Damaged Box at ¥7,308 (~$47). The M5 card list page links every Abyss Eye card to a listing, and our Abyss Eye complete guide and card list cover the rest of the set.
Where the Card Sits in MEGA x MEGA Parade
Pokébeach reported on August 25, 2026 that MEGA x MEGA Parade releases in Japan on Friday, February 19, 2027, as Japan’s high class pack, with ¥550 packs of ten cards and Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y as featured Pokémon. The official site had not listed the product as of October 1, 2026. Retailer listings carry other dates: a Yahoo! Shopping store prints 2027/2/17, another retailer prints February 19, 2027, and a screenshot of a third listing shows 2026/12/15, a placeholder rather than an announced date. Retailer dates are not release dates.
The official precedent for the format is the high class pack line. The official pages for VMAX Climax (December 3, 2021), VSTAR Universe (December 2, 2022), Shiny Treasure ex (December 1, 2023), テラスタルフェスex (December 6, 2024) and MEGA Dream ex (November 28, 2025) each print 550 yen including tax, and the MEGA Dream ex page prints ten Karten pro Pack and introduces MA as a rarity. Our high class pack history lays the five out in full.
