Base Set Japanese Booster Pack (Expansion Pack, 1996)

Japanese Pokemon Card Game booster pack from Expansion Pack (PMCG1), the Japanese set released in English as Base Set. Released in Japan on 20 October 1996. Each pack contains 10 random cards. Cards from this era use the original Japanese card back (“Old Back”); the current Japanese card back was introduced with Pokemon Card VS in July 2001.

Pack type: Short Pack. Japanese collectors distinguish two wrapper formats for this set and use “Short Pack” for the wrapper without the hanging tab at the top, generally regarded as the earlier format. This is a collector distinction, not a manufacturer designation. Both wrapper formats contain 10 cards from the same set.
