Vaporeon VMAX never appeared in a single Japanese booster box. Japanese copies came from the VMAX Special Set and promo distributions; English copies came from Evolving Skies and the Vaporeon VMAX Premium Collection — and one of those routes now prices a single card at over ¥1.8 million.
That card is S-P 187, the special-art Vaporeon VMAX from the 2021 Summer Pokémon Card Campaign, and it’s easily the most misunderstood card in the whole Eevee Heroes family. Shoppers searching “Vaporeon VMAX” often land on the Eevee Heroes (S6a) base set expecting to find it there — but S6a’s own Vaporeon slot is a Pokémon V, not a VMAX. The real VMAX only exists in four confirmed printings, spread across two promo campaigns and two English products, and the prices between them vary by orders of magnitude.
This guide prices every confirmed Vaporeon VMAX printing, walks through exactly how the ¥1.8 million S-P 187 was distributed, and clears up the V-versus-VMAX confusion at the S6a level. We ship Japanese sealed product and graded singles out of Tokyo every week, so the prices below are the ones we’re actually working with.
The chase printing is the S-P 187 Summer Pokémon Card Campaign promo — a special-art Vaporeon VMAX by Atsushi Furusawa, distributed by lottery to just 3,000 winning sets in 2021. In our catalog it’s currently listed at ¥1,811,562 (~$12,324) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) as a PSA 10, sitting inside snkrdunk’s asking-price range of ¥1,595,000–¥1,850,000 for the same grade. Vaporeon VMAX itself was never printed in the Eevee Heroes (S6a) base set — only Vaporeon V was.
Prices are ¥ secondary-market listings as of August 2026, converted at ¥147/USD, sourced from our own catalog unless noted.
Every Vaporeon VMAX Printing and What It’s Worth
As catalogued by Bulbapedia and cross-checked against Limitless TCG’s database as of August 2026, Vaporeon VMAX has exactly four confirmed printings — and unlike many Eeveelutions that keep getting reprinted year after year, its entire print history sits inside 2021:
| # | Kaart | Set | Year | Prijs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Vaporeon VMAX 187/S-P Promo (Special Art) | S-P Promo — Summer Pokémon Card Campaign (JPN) | 2021 | currently listed at ¥1,811,562 (~$12,324) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) |
| 2 | Vaporeon VMAX SWSH182 Promo (Full Art) | SWSH Black Star Promos (ENG) | 2021 | not currently in our catalog |
| 3 | Vaporeon VMAX 030/203 (Rare VMAX) | Evolving Skies (ENG) | 2021 | not currently in our catalog |
| 4 | Vaporeon VMAX 002/004 Promo (VMAX Special Set insert) | Eevee Heroes VMAX Special Set (JPN) | 2021 | not currently in our catalog |
Two of the four — the VMAX Special Set insert and the S-P 187 lottery promo — are Japanese, and neither ever shipped inside a standard S6a booster box. The other two are English: a plain Rare VMAX slot in Evolving Skies, and a full-art promo bundled with a premium collection box. Only the S-P 187 PSA10 is currently listed in this lineup; the other three aren’t in our catalog, so no dollar figures are given for them here.
What we do stock alongside it is a related but different card — the S6a Vaporeon V (not VMAX) — covered in the section below, since it’s the printing most likely to get confused with the VMAX by anyone shopping by set code alone.
The Chase Card: S-P 187 Summer Campaign Promo
The Summer Pokémon Card Campaign (サマーポケカキャンペーン) ran from July 21 to September 30, 2021. Players logged a real Pokémon Trading Card Game match played with friends or family through the Pokémon Card Game Players Club application, and 3,000 winners were then drawn by lottery. Each winner received the complete three-card special-art set: Flareon VMAX 186/S-P, Vaporeon VMAX 187/S-P, and Jolteon VMAX 188/S-P — illustrated by Atsushi Furusawa, a different artist credit from the 5ban Graphics work used on most of the S6a base set.
The original 2021 lottery distributed just 3,000 sets, making 187/S-P one of the scarcer SWSH-era Eeveelution promos in circulation. In our catalog it’s currently listed at ¥1,811,562 (~$12,324) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) as a PSA 10 — a different price tier entirely from anything printed inside a booster box; more detail on how that compares to independent asking prices is in the market snapshot below.
In the original 2021 lottery, 187/S-P was never distributed on its own — winners received all three Eeveelution VMAX cards (Flareon 186, Vaporeon 187, Jolteon 188) as a set. If you’re chasing the full trio rather than just Vaporeon, our Vaporeon, Jolteon & Flareon cards guide covers all three siblings side by side.
Bulbapedia also records supplemental distributions of the same 187/S-P print after the original 2021 lottery — through a Champions League 2022 Fukuoka prediction campaign, and again via a Pokémon Card Channel presenter-announcement campaign in June 2022. The original campaign awarded 3,000 three-card sets in 2021, and these additional 2022 distributions put further copies into circulation through channels separate from the original campaign.
Worth noting: Vaporeon’s S6a stablemate Espeon took a completely different route into promo form. Espeon VMAX’s special-art print (189/S-P) was a fixed insert in the boxed “Eevee’s Set” product, not a lottery draw — our Espeon VMAX value guide covers that distribution model and its own pricing in full.
Not in the S6a Base Set: What Eevee Heroes Actually Has
This is the part that trips up most shoppers. The Eevee Heroes (S6a) base set — the actual booster-box product, released May 28, 2021 — does not contain a Vaporeon VMAX at all. Its Vaporeon slot is Vaporeon V, a lower-tier card with three printings inside the same set: an RR at 015/069, and two Super Rare prints at 074/069 and 075/069 (the latter an alternate-art Special Art version).
Both of these are Pokémon V cards, not VMAX — a one-stage-earlier card type with a different attack line and a lower HP ceiling. We currently have the 075/069 alternate-art copy in our catalog: it was recently listed at ¥43,759 (~$298) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) as a PSA 10, a small fraction of the S-P 187 VMAX price above. It’s out of stock at the time of writing; restock requests go through Snel bestellen.
The only Vaporeon VMAX cards tied to this era exist entirely outside the booster box — the S-P 187 lottery promo covered above, and the VMAX Special Set insert covered next. Neither ever came packed inside a standard S6a pack. If you’re pulling packs specifically hoping for a Vaporeon VMAX, our S6a Eevee Heroes pull rates & best cards guide breaks down what actually comes out of the box, and our Eevee Heroes Eeveelutions set guide covers how all eight Eeveelution V and VMAX cards across the era relate to one another. For a ranked look across the whole Eeveelution card family, see our best Eevee cards guide.
The other JP VMAX printing — 002/004 — came from a separate boxed product, the VMAX Special Set: eight S6a packs plus one bonus VMAX promo pack. That bonus pack contained one random VMAX promo out of four possible Eeveelutions (Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon, or Espeon VMAX) alongside three matching mirror-foil Energy cards. It was a one-time 2021 product, not a standing feature of today’s S6a boxes, and it is not currently in our catalog.
The English Printings: Evolving Skies & SWSH182
Vaporeon VMAX’s English release is Evolving Skies (EVS), which shipped August 27, 2021 with the card at 030/203 — a standard Rare VMAX slot, equivalent to the Japanese base rarity tier. Per Limitless TCG’s prints list, Evolving Skies does not have a separate alternate-art secret version of Vaporeon VMAX; the set’s only other Vaporeon VMAX print is the full-art promo below.
That promo is SWSH182, part of the SWSH Black Star Promos line, released December 3, 2021 inside the Vaporeon VMAX Premium Collection box — the same Furusawa artwork used on the Japanese S-P 187, plus a jumbo-sized copy included in the same collection.
Neither English printing is currently in our catalog, so no dollar figures are quoted for them here. Per the release coverage behind this card, market consensus holds that the Japanese S-P 187 commands a large premium over the widely available EN SWSH182. The Japanese print came from a 3,000-set lottery; the SWSH182 promo had a wider premium-collection distribution.
The Evolving Skies release date matters here too: EVS shipped August 27, 2021, three months after Eevee Heroes went on sale in Japan on May 28. That gap is standard for the SWSH era — Japanese sets and their promo campaigns typically run a season or more ahead of the corresponding English product, so by the time EVS 030/203 hit English shelves, the S-P 187 lottery had already been running for over a month.
Secondary-Market Asking Prices
We also checked snkrdunk’s marketplace for independent price context on the S-P 187 PSA10. These are asking-price spreads from active listings, not confirmed sales, so read them as a directional sanity check against our own catalog price rather than a market consensus:
- S-P 187, PSA 10: asking-price range of ¥1,595,000–¥1,850,000 across eight listings. Unlike several other cards we checked in this research pass, all eight of these listings carry recent listing IDs — none are stale, so this reads as a current snapshot rather than a mix of fresh and years-old asks. Our own catalog price of ¥1,811,562 (~$12,324) sits inside that range, toward the upper end.
- S-P 187, raw (ungraded): no individual raw listings were observed separate from the graded copies — the page’s lowest listed ask matched the PSA10 figure above, so there’s no distinct raw-condition anchor to quote.
- 3-card trio set (Flareon/Vaporeon/Jolteon VMAX), PSA 10: a single listing was seen at ¥4,480,000 for the complete matched trio. That’s a single listing rather than a range, so treat it as a weak reference point rather than an established market price.
Overall, the S-P 187 data is some of the cleanest in this batch — a tight, all-fresh eight-listing spread that lines up closely with what we’re charging for our own PSA10 copy.
How to Get a Vaporeon VMAX (or the Next Best Thing)
Since the S-P 187 lottery closed in 2021 (with only the small supplemental 2022 giveaways noted above), there’s no way to newly win one today. The remaining acquisition route is the secondary market; the checked snkrdunk sample contained no distinct raw listing, and our own catalog listing is a graded PSA10 copy.
- The real VMAX: our PSA10 S-P 187 copy, currently listed at ¥1,811,562 (~$12,324) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). This is the only Vaporeon VMAX printing in our catalog right now.
- A related, far cheaper Vaporeon: the S6a Vaporeon V SR alternate art, recently listed at ¥43,759 (~$298) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) as a PSA10 (out of stock — restock requests via Snel bestellen). It’s a genuinely different card type, not a budget VMAX, but it’s the actual Vaporeon card that comes out of S6a boosters.
- Opening boxes for the base-set Vaporeon V: our Eevee Heroes S6a card list & box guide covers what’s actually inside an S6a booster box. If you’re deciding between S6a and other Eeveelution-heavy releases, our Eevee Heroes vs Pokemon 151 box guide and Eevee Heroes vs VSTAR Universe box guide compare the pull odds and price levels.
At this price level, condition and grading are the entire ballgame. If you’re comparing a raw copy against our graded PSA10 listing, remember that PSA independently determines authenticity and grade. Independent PSA10 asking prices for this card range from ¥1,595,000 to ¥1,850,000, per the market snapshot above.
Broken down by spend, the lineup we can currently offer is really a two-tier decision rather than a gradient: under $300 buys a genuine PSA10 S6a Vaporeon card, just not a VMAX, while the five-figure S-P 187 is the only route to the actual VMAX in either grade. There’s no confirmed middle-tier Vaporeon VMAX print sitting between those two price points in our catalog right now — the Evolving Skies and SWSH182 English printings would normally fill that gap, but neither is currently in our catalog.
