Print History: The Three Japanese Starmie V Rarities

S9a Battle Region printed Starmie V three times, each at a different rarity tier. All three share the same card number base (067) and the same 25 February 2022 release date — only the rarity and the card number prefix change.

017/067 — DR (Double Rare)

The entry-tier print, illustrated by Eske Yoshinob. This is the version most commonly pulled from a Battle Region booster box, and the number sits within the set’s regular 067-card run.

075/067 — SR (Super Rare)

The alternate-art step up, also illustrated by Eske Yoshinob, and numbered past the 067 base — the first sign in the run that a print sits above the set’s standard rarity slots.

083/067 — CSR (Character Super Rare)

The anchor print covered above, illustrated by Akira Komayama and numbered highest of the three — consistent with CSR sitting at the top of this particular print run.

Three prints, one set, one release date — but the card number, rarity code and illustrator all change together across the three, from Eske Yoshinob’s DR and SR prints to Akira Komayama’s CSR.

Japanese vs English Print

S9a Battle Region has no direct English-language edition of its own, but all three Japanese Starmie V prints correspond to cards inside Astral Radiance: #30 (regular), #166 (full art), and #TG13 (Trainer Gallery). The 083/067 CSR’s direct English equivalent is Astral Radiance TG13, the Trainer Gallery secret print — both share the same illustrator, Akira Komayama.

None of the three English prints carry a CSR rarity label. CSR (Character Super Rare) is a Japanese-only rarity name — English print sets use their own rarity system (regular, full art, Trainer Gallery secret) rather than adopting the Japanese CSR label — but that’s a difference in rarity naming, not an absence of an English print. TG13 is the same artwork as the Japanese CSR, issued under English rarity conventions instead.
