PSA authenticates first, grades second and encapsulates third, and it grades only a card that has been deemed authentic. A card that fails or shows alteration comes back without a numeric grade under an N code (N1 to N9). 三个步骤：鉴定、评级、封装
PSA 的价格页面先定义了这两个词。鉴定（Authentication）是核实收藏卡牌原件真实性的过程。评级（Grading）是使用 PSA 的 10 分制评估卡牌品质和品相。该页面补充说，只有在卡牌被认定为真品之后才能进行评级。

评级：1-10 分制以及 PSA 对 Gem Mint 10 的说明
第 2 步给出 1 到 10 的数字。在评级标准页面上，PSA 对 Gem Mint 10 的定义如下：几乎完美的卡牌，四个角完全锐利，对焦清晰，保留完整的原始光泽，没有任何污渍，允许存在不影响卡牌整体观感的轻微印刷瑕疵。
同一定义还设定了居中限度：图像必须居中在容差范围内，正面大约不超过 55/45，背面大约不超过 75/25。PSA 还附有一条居中说明：可由评级员全权酌情，根据卡牌整体观感允许小幅偏差。我们的居中文章展示了这些比例在日本卡牌上的样子。
客观检查与主观判断
PSA 的标准页面指出，评级的很大一部分是客观的，例如找出印刷瑕疵、污渍和表面折痕并测量居中，另一部分则带有一定主观性。页面称评级员保留权利，可根据卡牌观感的强弱对评分做出判断。PSA 表示这适用于恰好处在两个分数之间的少见卡牌。
日本采用相同标准

无评分代码 N1 至 N9 与 MK 标注
PSA 的评级标准页面列出了卡牌不带数字评分、装在 card saver 卡套中退回的九种原因。下表对每个代码做了转述，并按 PSA 的表述给出封装选项和评级费用。“AA” 和 “Auth” 指送评人可在送评表上填写的期望最低评分，PSA 说明最低评分选项仅适用于部分服务级别。

除 N 代码外，PSA 在同一页面上还列出一个标注。MK 代表 Marks：任何带有文字、墨迹、铅笔痕迹或书写压痕的卡牌都标为 MK。
九个代码中的三个，N6、N8 和 N9，在卡牌不封装退回时不收费；N6 和 N8 卡牌若以 Authentic 封装则要收费，如表所示，而 N9 从不封装。五个代码，即 N1 至 N3、N5 和 N7，是 PSA 与 Authentic Altered 卡砖挂钩的代码，且仅在送评人要求了该最低评分时适用。
卡砖与 LightHouse 标签

PSA Japan：谁可以送评、有哪些级别
PSA Japan 常见问题 D-08 表示，该评级服务仅接受居住在日本的人员申请。日期为 2025 年 7 月 18 日的 PSA 支持文章使用了相同的表述，即日本分部目前仅接受日本居民的送评。常见问题 D-09 补充说，PSA 美国已停止接受美国境外客户的评级送评，因此 PSA Vault 及类似的经美国转接的服务对日本居民暂时受限。
