The official pokemon.com set page gives November 1, 2019 as the English release date and “Over 230 cards” as the size, and Bulbapedia’s list of Japanese expansions (snapshot September 15, 2026) pairs Cosmic Eclipse with SM12 and lists SM11a and SM11b as parts of it.
Japan released SM11a on July 5, 2019, SM11b on August 2, 2019 and SM12 on September 6, 2019, all ahead of the English set. At card level, the full-art tier of Cosmic Eclipse is 39 cards: 27 Ultra Rare cards numbered 210 to 236 and 12 Character Holo Rare cards numbered 237 to 248. Limitless TCG lists the Japanese SR or CHR print for 26 of them, 7 in SM11a and 19 in SM11b; the 13 SM12 SR prints (096/095 to 108/095) are matched by card name and illustrator credit against the official Japanese card database. Each is credited to the same illustrator as the English card. The 14 Rainbow Rare and 9 gold Secret Rare cards have no verified Japanese counterpart at the same tier.

How the English Set Maps to Japan
No official source states that English Cosmic Eclipse equals a Japanese set. The set-level pairing is Bulbapedia’s (snapshot September 15, 2026): SM12 is listed against Cosmic Eclipse, and SM11a and SM11b each as part of it. At card level, each Limitless TCG card page lists the Japanese prints that share the English card’s game text, and the official Japanese card database supplies the Japanese number, rarity icon and illustrator credit for each. Limitless TCG’s SM12 list stops at number 95, so the 13 SM12 matches (096/095 to 108/095) are matched by card name and illustrator credit against the official database.

Choosing Between the Three Japanese Sets
Use the tables above as a checklist rather than a ranking.
- Start from the card. Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX (220, 221) and Naganadel & Guzzlord-GX (223, 224) sit in SM12, the Charizard & Braixen-GX and Venusaur & Snivy-GX cards (210, 212) in SM11a, and Reshiram & Zekrom-GX (222) and every Character Holo Rare in SM11b.
- Read the Japanese number, not the English one. The English 212 is 067/064 in Japan.
- Keep the Rainbow Rare and gold cards separate. Their Japanese counterparts are unverified, and the SR print of the same Pokémon is a different tier.
- Check the product name. The SM11b Dream League regular box and its Damaged Box products are separate product pages, each with its own price.
Rainbow Rare and Secret Rare Cards Without a Verified Match
No Japanese print above the SR and CHR tiers is verified as the counterpart of the 14 Rainbow Rare and 9 gold Secret Rare cards, so they have no verified same-tier counterpart. Each Rainbow Rare card is a second version of a Pokémon-GX that also appears among the numbered Ultra Rare cards; the table shows the Japanese SR prints of that Pokémon, which sit in a different rarity tier.

The nine gold Secret Rare cards are Trainers, Stadiums and one Special Energy. Six have a Japanese print in the paired sets, and in Limitless TCG’s Japanese lists every one of those prints is an Uncommon or a Common; Giant Hearth, Martial Arts Dojo and Power Plant have no print in the paired sets.
