Paradigm Trigger doesn’t count like a normal Japanese expansion. Its base set runs to card #098, but the secret block keeps going all the way to #125 — and its headline chase is Lugia V SA 110/098, whose lowest PSA 10 asking price on SNKRDUNK was ¥185,000 on September 23, 2026.
Released October 21, 2022, S12 “Paradigm Trigger” (拡張パック パラダイムトリガー) is a 125-card Sword & Shield–era expansion built around the base-Lugia VSTAR line, with a 98-card base set and a 27-card secret block layered on top of it. The numbering is the first thing to get right: every secret in this set reads over /098, not /100 — so a listing for “Lugia V SA 110/100” is simply wrong, and if you see one, treat it as a red flag.
This guide walks through the set’s 27-card secret tier number by number, the headline Lugia V SA, and the set’s duplicated-SR puzzle, and covers what a sealed box costs against its original retail price — for the complete 125-card list including the base set, see our full Paradigm Trigger card list. We list Paradigm Trigger sealed boxes from Tokyo; store prices below are as of September 23, 2026.
Whether you’re trying to identify a card you already own, checking a listing before you buy, or building a full set from the base tier up, the safest approach with this set is to work from the card number first and the Pokemon name second — the numbering below is what actually separates a common pull from the set’s most valuable card.
Paradigm Trigger (S12) has 125 total cards — a 98-card base set (numbered 001–098) plus 27 secrets (099–125): 16 SR, 8 HR, 3 UR. The chase card is Lugia V SA, 110/098, one of the set’s four duplicated SR pairs where only one printing carries the special-art treatment. A sealed box is currently listed at ¥20,580 (~$134), roughly 4.2x the original ¥4,950 retail price.

- SNKRDUNK’s lowest asks on September 23, 2026: sealed box ¥21,000, Lugia V SA 110/098 PSA10 ¥185,000, Lugia VSTAR HR 118/098 PSA10 ¥14,000.

What Is Paradigm Trigger (S12)?
Paradigm Trigger is a 拡張パック (Expansion Pack) — Japan’s main expansion format. It launched at ¥165 tax included per 5-card pack, with 30 packs to a box for a box MSRP of ¥4,950 tax included.
The set carries no かがやく (Radiant) cards — that mechanic sat out this release entirely. Instead, the pull is built entirely around the V / VSTAR line topped by Lugia, spread across a 98-card base set and a 27-card secret tier that pushes the total to 125.
What makes Paradigm Trigger worth mapping out card by card is exactly that extended secret block: 27 secret cards, nearly a third the size of the base set itself, split across three distinct rarity bands (SR, HR, UR) instead of one. That’s a lot of surface area for a listing to get wrong, whether it’s the card number, the rarity tier, or which of two identically-named printings is actually pictured.
The practical upshot for buyers: treat the card number as the primary identifier, not the Pokemon name. Four different Pokemon in this set share a name across two consecutive secret numbers, and the set’s single highest-value card is distinguished from a much cheaper sibling by exactly one digit in that number.
| Rarity tier | Card count | Numbering |
|---|---|---|
| C (Common) | 44 | 001–098 |
| U (Uncommon) | 32 | 001–098 |
| R (Rare) | 10 | 001–098 |
| RR (Double Rare) | 8 | 001–098 |
| RRR (Triple Rare) | 4 | 001–098 |
| SR (Super Rare) | 16 | 099–114/098 |
| HR (Hyper Rare) | 8 | 115–122/098 |
| UR (Ultra Rare) | 3 | 123–125/098 |
That base-of-/098 numbering is the single most common source of confusion when shopping this set secondhand — the base set stops at 098, and everything from 099 onward is a secret card layered on top of that same 98-card denominator.
It’s a useful habit any time you’re comparing Japanese sets side by side: the denominator in a card’s number tells you the base set size, not the set’s true total. Paradigm Trigger’s /098 base plus 27 secrets is exactly the kind of case where relying on the denominator alone would undercount the set by more than 20%.

| 124/098 | Item (葉隠れポンチョ) | UR |
| 125/098 | Trainer — Stadium (大口の沼) | UR |
Notice the pattern: four Pokemon (Unown V, Skuntank V, Regidrago V, and Lugia V) each appear twice in the SR block, back to back. That’s not a transcription error — it’s how Paradigm Trigger’s secret tier is built, and it’s the single trickiest part of identifying what you’re holding. More on that below.
The other structural quirk worth flagging: four Trainer secrets — さぎょういん, ジンダイ, スズナ, and ワタル — each get two secret printings apiece, one at SR (111–114) and a second at HR (119–122). That’s eight of the set’s 27 secrets going to just four Trainer cards, reprinted across two rarity tiers rather than appearing once. Combined with the VSTAR line getting its own HR slots at 115–118 and the UR closer at 123–125, the secret tier reads almost like three parallel mini-sets stacked on top of each other — SR, then HR, then UR — rather than one flat list.

Base Set Breakdown (001–098/098)
The 98-card base set runs the standard Japanese rarity ladder: 44 Commons, 32 Uncommons, 10 Rares, 8 Double Rares, and 4 Triple Rares — every one of them numbered under the same /098 denominator the secrets build on top of. A five-card evolution line from early in the set gives a good sense of the base-set art style before the secret tier takes over:
Oddish through Bellossom and Tangela through Tangrowth open the numbering — both full evolution lines land inside the first five cards of the set, ahead of the RR and RRR tiers that carry the base set’s higher-value pulls. For the complete numbered 001–098 base list, see our full Paradigm Trigger card list page.
Commons and Uncommons together make up 76 of the 98 base-set cards — over three-quarters of the base list — which is fairly typical for a Japanese expansion pack of this size. The RR and RRR tiers (12 cards combined) are where the base set’s real chase pulls sit, ahead of any secret. Our own PSA10-graded Lugia V RR, 079/098 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), is an example from that RR band — a base-set card, not a secret — and it’s sold out at the time of this update; restock requests go through Quick Order.
The Headline Chase: Lugia V SA, 110/098
Paradigm Trigger’s chase card is Lugia V — Special Art, 110/098. It sits directly after the set’s regular full-art Lugia V at 109/098, and the two are easy to mix up if you’re only glancing at the Pokemon name — the SA designation and the card number are what actually separate them.
Both of our graded Lugia V singles are sold out at the time of this update: PSA10 Lugia V SA, 110/098 and PSA10 Lugia V RR, 079/098 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) — restock requests for either can go through our Quick Order page. For external market context, SNKRDUNK’s lowest asking price for a PSA10 Lugia V SA 110/098 was ¥185,000 on September 23, 2026 (see the box economics section below for how that compares to the rest of the secret tier).
Because Lugia V SA is the highest-numbered of the set’s duplicated Lugia pair (109 and 110), and it’s the only one of the two carrying the special-art illustration, it’s the printing collectors specifically hunt for when they say “Paradigm Trigger Lugia.” If a listing just says “Lugia V” without a card number, always check for 110/098 before assuming it’s the SA. For more on Lugia’s wider Japanese TCG print history, see our Lugia cards guide.

Inside the Duplicated SR Pairs
Four Pokemon get two consecutive SR slots each in this set: Unown V (102/103), Skuntank V (105/106), Regidrago V (107/108), and Lugia V (109/110). In every pair, the higher-numbered printing carries the special-art (SA) treatment: Lugia V SA is 110/098, Unown V SA is 103/098, Skuntank V SA is 106/098, and Regidrago V SA is 108/098.
If you’re buying singles from this set and the SA distinction matters to you, match the exact card number printed in the corner: 103/098 (Unown V SA), 106/098 (Skuntank V SA), and 108/098 (Regidrago V SA) carry the special-art treatment, while 102/098, 105/098, and 107/098 are the plain SR printings — rather than trusting a listing title alone.
This is worth being deliberate about because the Lugia pair shows just how large the gap between a regular and special-art printing of the same Pokemon can be inside one set. The same pattern holds across all four duplicated pairs: the higher card number in each is the SA. Always check the printed card number before assuming which of the two you’re being offered.

Hisuian Arcanine V at 104/098 is the one SR in this stretch of the set that does not have a duplicate slot — a single printing, no SA-identification ambiguity.
Box Economics: MSRP vs Current Market
Paradigm Trigger launched at ¥4,950 tax included per box (30 packs × ¥165). Nearly four years past release, a sealed box is currently listed at ¥20,580 (~$134) — roughly 4.2x the original box price.
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Original box MSRP (2022) | ¥4,950 |
| Original pack price | ¥165 / 5 cards |
| Packs per box | 30 |
| Current sealed box listing | ¥20,580 (~$134) |
| Multiple vs MSRP | ~4.2x |
The box lists at ~4.2x its ¥4,950 launch price; the lowest PSA 10 ask for Lugia V SA on SNKRDUNK was ¥185,000 on September 23, 2026.
For collectors pricing the top of the secret tier against the rest of it, SNKRDUNK’s lowest asks on September 23, 2026 were ¥21,000 for a sealed box, ¥90,000 raw / ¥185,000 PSA10 for Lugia V SA 110/098, and ¥3,980 raw / ¥14,000 PSA10 for Lugia VSTAR HR 118/098 — the HR tier sits far below the SA at the top of the SR block.
Where to Buy Paradigm Trigger from Japan
We ship Paradigm Trigger sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo; if your country appears at checkout we can ship to you. A sealed box is currently listed at ¥20,580 (~$134).
For the graded Lugia V SA, Lugia V RR, and other Paradigm Trigger singles, check our full S12 card list page or browse our PSA 10 collection; place a restock request through Quick Order for anything currently unlisted.
Since sealed boxes are where every secret in this list originates — the 001–098 base pulls alongside all 27 secrets from 099 through 125 — a box is also the only way to chase Lugia V SA yourself rather than buying a graded single outright. Given the card counts above, that’s a long shot on any individual box, but it’s the route that gets you the complete rarity spread rather than one targeted card. Frequently Asked Questions
How many cards are in Paradigm Trigger (S12)?
125 total: a 98-card base set numbered 001–098, plus 27 secret cards numbered 099–125 that continue over the same /098 denominator — 16 SR, 8 HR, and 3 UR.
What is the rarest card in Paradigm Trigger?
Lugia V — Special Art, 110/098, is the set’s headline chase card. Our PSA10 copy is sold out at the time of this update; SNKRDUNK’s lowest asking price for a PSA10 copy was ¥185,000 on September 23, 2026.
Why does the secret list read /098 instead of /100?
Paradigm Trigger’s base set stops at 98 cards, not 100, so every secret card is numbered against that /098 denominator. A citation reading “110/100” for Lugia V SA is incorrect — the correct number is 110/098.
What’s the difference between Lugia V 109/098 and Lugia V SA 110/098?
They are the set’s duplicated Lugia V pair. 109/098 is the regular SR printing; 110/098 carries the special-art (SA) illustration and is the significantly higher-value card of the two.
How much does a sealed Paradigm Trigger box cost now?
The original 2022 box MSRP was ¥4,950 tax included (30 packs at ¥165 each). A sealed box is currently listed at ¥20,580 (about $134), roughly 4.2x the original MSRP.
