Cosmic Eclipse Chase Cards: Alter Genesis & Tag All Stars (SM12/SM12a) Japanese Prints

Pokémon TCG: Sun & Moon—Cosmic Eclipse closed out the Sun & Moon Series in English on 1 November 2019 with 271 cards, and its headline TAG TEAM GX chase cards did not start there at all. They come from four separate Japanese expansions released across the four months before it: SM11a Remix Bout, SM11b Dream League, SM12 Alter Genesis and SM12a Tag All Stars.

This guide maps eight Cosmic Eclipse TAG TEAM GX cards back to their exact Japanese set and number, using card-level lookups rather than set-level guesswork. It also covers a fourth Japanese set that our own Cosmic Eclipse Japanese card list hub does not name in its title — that hub lists SM11a, SM11b and SM12, while this piece adds SM12a Tag All Stars, confirmed via at least one mapped card below.

Key Takeaways

Cosmic Eclipse’s TAG TEAM GX chase cards trace to four Japanese sets — SM11a Remix Bout, SM11b Dream League, SM12 Alter Genesis and SM12a Tag All Stars — not the three named in our Cosmic Eclipse Japanese card list hub. The SM12A-Tag All-Stars Japanese Pokemon Booster Box is currently listed at ¥207,900 (~$1,308), and every mapping below is sourced from individual card-level lookups, not set-level assumptions.

Which Japanese Sets Cosmic Eclipse Was Built From

Cosmic Eclipse is a four-set compilation — wider than most Sun & Moon-era English releases, which typically draw from two or three Japanese expansions. Pokémon pulled its 271-card checklist from four consecutive Japanese sets released between July and October 2019.

EN set JP set code JP name JP release Size
Cosmic Eclipse SM11a Remix Bout 5 Jul 2019 73
Cosmic Eclipse SM11b Dream League 2 Aug 2019 68
Cosmic Eclipse SM12 Alter Genesis 6 Sep 2019 95
Cosmic Eclipse SM12a Tag All Stars 4 Oct 2019 173
Why a Fourth Set?

Our Cosmic Eclipse Japanese card list hub names three source sets in its own title — SM11a, SM11b and SM12. Card-level checking for this article turned up a fourth: at least one Cosmic Eclipse TAG TEAM GX card, Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff-GX, traces to SM12a Tag All Stars rather than SM12 Alter Genesis. That is why this chase-cards guide covers four sets where our full card-list hub covers three.

All four source sets are currently listed as sealed product on our site. SM12 Alter Genesis catalogues 95 cards and SM12a Tag All Stars catalogues 173 — by far the largest of the four. For the full four-set breakdown card by card, see our Cosmic Eclipse Japanese card list, our Alter Genesis (SM12) card list, our SM12 Alter Genesis pull rates & best cards and our SM12a Tag All Stars pull rates & best cards.

Cosmic Eclipse Chase Cards and Their Japanese Prints

Eight TAG TEAM GX cards anchor this mapping, each verified individually against its English card page. All eight are the regular “Double Rare” TAG TEAM GX print in English; each also has a higher-numbered Special Art (SA) rainbow-bordered print in the same English set, though this pack does not confirm an exact SA number for any of them.

Rarity Names: English vs Japanese

Cosmic Eclipse belongs to the TAG TEAM GX era, which predates the AR/SAR/SIR rarity vocabulary used in the current Scarlet & Violet-era Japanese sets — so this mapping does not carry those newer abbreviations. In English, all eight cards above are catalogued as the plain Double Rare TAG TEAM GX print; each of the eight also exists as a higher-numbered Special Art (SA) print, printed with a full rainbow-foil border, later in the same English set.

On the Japanese side, our source data identifies each print above as that card’s SA-tier version in its home set — the same top-tier TAG TEAM GX slot the English SA print occupies, rather than a lower, more common print of the same card. This pack does not independently confirm an exact Japanese rarity abbreviation (such as HR or UR) for these eight prints beyond that SA-tier designation, so this guide states it at that level rather than guessing a specific code.

Japanese vs English Version: What Changes

The card counts make the four-set structure visible. SM11a Remix Bout (73), SM11b Dream League (68), SM12 Alter Genesis (95) and SM12a Tag All Stars (173) add up to 409 catalogued Japanese entries — well above Cosmic Eclipse’s 271 English cards. That gap is normal for a wide compilation: Pokémon draws only a portion of each Japanese set’s roster into the English release, and Cosmic Eclipse drew from four sets rather than the more typical two or three.

Release timing also runs well ahead of the English side. SM11a Remix Bout released 5 July 2019, more than three months before Cosmic Eclipse’s 1 November 2019 English debut; SM12a Tag All Stars, the last of the four, still had a four-week head start. As with other Sun & Moon-era compilations, each Japanese card keeps its own set code and printed number for its whole life — a card is “SM12 65” or “SM12a 94” regardless of language — while Cosmic Eclipse renumbers everything into a single 271-card English sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Japanese sets is Cosmic Eclipse sourced from?

Four Japanese sets: SM11a Remix Bout (5 July 2019), SM11b Dream League (2 August 2019), SM12 Alter Genesis (6 September 2019) and SM12a Tag All Stars (4 October 2019).

Why does this article cover SM12a Tag All Stars when your card-list hub only names three sets?

Our Cosmic Eclipse Japanese card list hub is titled around SM11a, SM11b and SM12. Card-level checking for this chase-cards guide found that Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff-GX (English #143) maps to SM12a Tag All Stars #94 rather than SM12 Alter Genesis, so we’ve included SM12a here as a fourth confirmed source set.

What’s the difference between a Double Rare and an SA print of these TAG TEAM GX cards?

All eight cards mapped in this guide are the plain Double Rare TAG TEAM GX print in English. Each also has a separate, higher-numbered Special Art (SA) print with a full rainbow-foil border in the same English set, though the exact SA number is not confirmed here for any of them.

Are SM11a Remix Bout or SM11b Dream League boxes available on your site?

Yes. The SM11A Remix Bout Japanese Pokemon Booster Box is currently listed at ¥141,750 (~$892) and the SM11B-Dream League Japanese Pokemon Booster Box is currently listed at ¥170,100 (~$1,070), both shipped from Tokyo with tracked delivery.

Where can I buy the SM12 Alter Genesis or SM12a Tag All Stars boxes from Tokyo?

Both are currently listed on our site: the SM12-Alter Genesis Japanese Pokemon Booster Box at ¥63,000 (~$396) and the SM12A-Tag All-Stars Japanese Pokemon Booster Box at ¥207,900 (~$1,308), both shipped from Tokyo with tracked delivery.

How many English Cosmic Eclipse cards does this guide map to Japanese prints?

Eight TAG TEAM GX cards, each verified individually against its English card page and matched to a specific Japanese set and number.
