Phantom Forces Card List: The Japanese XY4 Phantom Gate Prints

Phantom Forces Card List: The Japanese XY4 Phantom Gate Prints

The Phantom Forces card list that follows sets all 122 English cards beside the Japanese expansion they were built from, Phantom Gate (XY4). Bulbapedia, as of October 26, 2026, names Phantom Gate as the Japanese release behind Phantom Forces, and the secret-rare table matches the English top-rarity cards to their Japanese numbers by card name.

English Phantom Forces includes Gengar-EX and M Gengar-EX, and Bulbapedia notes that it introduced Spirit Link, Pokémon Tool cards that allowed Pokémon to Mega Evolve without ending the player’s turn. The Japanese number is what identifies the print on a PSA 10 label, so the tables keep the English number and the Japanese number side by side.

We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD, approximate.

Key Takeaways
  • Phantom Forces is built from one Japanese set, Phantom Gate (XY4), which Bulbapedia numbers 001/088 to 097/088, with the secret range at 089 to 097.
  • The English set has 122 cards (1/119 to 119/119 plus three Rare Secrets at 120/119 to 122/119); the Japanese set has 97 cards.
  • The headline Rare Secret is M Gengar-EX (121/119); Bulbapedia’s Japanese list carries M Gengar-EX at 034/088 (RR) and 097/088 (UR), and Gengar-EX at 033 (RR) and 090 (SR).
  • For Japanese sealed product, the M6a 30th CELEBRATION Booster Box Sealed option is currently listed at ¥25,999 (~$169).

The Japanese Set Behind Phantom Forces

Bulbapedia lists Phantom Forces’ Japanese expansion as Phantom Gate. The English set released on November 5, 2014, after the Japanese one. The code XY4 comes from our store listings and from the pokemon-card.com image folder XY4; Bulbapedia itself prints no code field for the set.

Bulbapedia’s Japanese set list carries the rarity codes C, U, R, RR, SR and UR. Its secret range runs 089/088 to 097/088: seven SR cards and two UR cards. The nine cards of that range are Manectric-EX, Gengar-EX, Malamar-EX, Florges-EX, AZ, Xerosic and Lysandre’s Trump Card in SR, then M Manectric-EX and M Gengar-EX in UR.

These nine cards sit above the printed set size of 088, which is why the Japanese list is printed 001/088 to 088/088 and then 089/088 to 097/088.

Phantom Forces Secret Rares and Their Japanese Prints

Bulbapedia labels ten Phantom Forces cards at the top of the English list: seven Rare Ultra cards (113 to 119) and three Rare Secret cards (120 to 122). It does not print a number mapping between the English and Japanese lists, so the Japanese column is matched by card name against the Japanese XY4 list; where one name has an RR and an SR print, both are shown. Our listing names add :1ED to some titles; that is our listing’s wording, not an official term.

The Gengar EX SR (XY4 090/088) is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥2,244,000 (~$14,571) — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms. The overview of how that works is on the PSA 10 back-order overview page.

Its rarity labels split as 37 Uncommon, 34 Common, 19 Rare, 14 Rare Holo, 8 Rare Holo ex, 7 Rare Ultra, 3 Rare Secret. Japanese vs English Phantom Forces: Numbering and What Changes

Bulbapedia prints the English set against a total of 119 (1/119 to 119/119, then 120/119 to 122/119 for the Rare Secrets) and the Japanese set against 088 (001/088 to 088/088) with secret rows 089/088 to 097/088. The two lists are separate tables on the same page and are not row-mapped, so an English number tells you nothing about the Japanese number. A Japanese print is identified by set code plus number, for example XY4 090/088.

The English set has 122 cards against 97 in Japan. In the English list, 11 card names appear at more than one number: Manectric-EX, M Manectric-EX, Helioptile, Gengar-EX, M Gengar-EX, Malamar-EX, Dialga-EX, Florges-EX, AZ, Lysandre’s Trump Card, Xerosic. Bulbapedia’s infobox gives the English set number as 62 and the Japanese one as 56.

Rarity names differ by side. The English list uses Common, Uncommon, Rare, Rare Holo, Rare Holo ex, Rare Ultra and Rare Secret; the Japanese list uses C, U, R, RR, SR and UR. Bulbapedia does not print an official conversion between the two schemes, and it states no per-card list of cards exclusive to one side.

Promo and theme-deck prints

Bulbapedia’s Additional cards table lists 20 promo or theme-deck prints of English Phantom Forces numbers, from Theme Deck and Blister exclusives to Crosshatch Holo season promos. Bulbapedia does not say whether Japanese prints carry the same promos.

Phantom Forces Card List FAQ

How many cards are in the Phantom Forces card list?

Bulbapedia lists 122 cards in English Phantom Forces: 119 numbered 1/119 to 119/119, plus three Rare Secret cards at 120/119 to 122/119. The Japanese set behind it, Phantom Gate (XY4), has 97 cards numbered 001/088 to 097/088, so the English set is 25 cards larger.

Which Japanese set is Phantom Forces based on?

Phantom Forces is based on Phantom Gate, code XY4. Bulbapedia notes that the English expansion was released after the Japanese one. The code XY4 comes from our store listings and the pokemon-card.com image folder; Bulbapedia prints no code field for the set.

When did Phantom Gate release in Japan?

Bulbapedia lists the Japanese release as September 13, 2014, and the English Phantom Forces release as November 5, 2014. The Japanese set therefore came first. Its numbering is separate: 001/088 to 097/088, with seven SR cards at 089 to 095 and two UR cards at 096 and 097.

Are the Japanese and English card numbers the same?

No. English Phantom Forces is numbered 1/119 to 119/119 with Rare Secrets at 120/119 to 122/119, while Japanese XY4 is numbered 001/088 to 097/088. Bulbapedia prints the two lists as separate tables with no mapping, so a Japanese print is identified by set code plus number, such as XY4 090/088.

Which Phantom Forces cards are secret rares?

Bulbapedia labels three cards Rare Secret: M Manectric-EX (120), M Gengar-EX (121) and Dialga-EX (122). By card name, M Manectric-EX and M Gengar-EX match the Japanese URs 096/088 and 097/088; Bulbapedia’s Japanese list has no Dialga-EX. The seven Rare Ultra cards (113 to 119) match SR cards by name.

Where are the Gengar-EX prints in Phantom Gate?

Bulbapedia’s Japanese list prints Gengar-EX at 033/088 (RR) and 090/088 (SR), and M Gengar-EX at 034/088 (RR) and 097/088 (UR). English Phantom Forces lists Gengar-EX as Rare Ultra 114 and M Gengar-EX as Rare Secret 121, matched here by card name.

How do I buy the Japanese XY4 prints from Japan?
