Vivid Voltage’s headline secret rares didn’t start out as secrets at all. In Japan, most of them were regular numbered cards inside two separate expansions — and the set’s most famous pull, the Pikachu VMAX Rainbow Rare, has a Japanese printing history that Limitless’s own database can’t fully pin down.
Vivid Voltage (VIV) released in English on November 13, 2020 with 185 cards plus 18 secret rares, 203 in total. It draws largely from S4 Amazing Volt Tackle (released in Japan September 18, 2020, also seen translated as Shocking Volt Tackle or Amazing V Charge) and folds in the six Amazing Rare cards from S3a Legendary Heartbeat (released July 10, 2020). Vivid Voltage’s ten biggest chase cards split across two Japanese sets — the six Amazing Rares (Celebi, Raikou, Zacian, Zamazenta, Jirachi, Rayquaza) come from S3a Legendary Heartbeat, while the full-art Vs and the Pikachu VMAX Rainbow Rare trace back to S4 Amazing Volt Tackle. Both Japanese booster boxes are currently listed — S4 Amazing V Charge Box at ¥50,400 and S3A Legendary Heartbeat Box at ¥39,900. That anchor doesn’t apply here — we don’t currently list any PSA 10 graded singles from Amazing Volt Tackle or Legendary Heartbeat. So this ranking runs on Japanese printed rarity tier instead: Amazing Rare and HR (hyper rare / rainbow rare) cards sit above full-art SR/UR cards, which sit above the set’s plain holo Rares.
We do not quote third-party market prices anywhere in this article. Where a listing exists — the two Japanese booster boxes — we link to it directly with the price we currently list. Where a specific single isn’t listed, we say so and point to Quick Order instead of implying stock that doesn’t exist.

1. Pikachu VMAX (Rainbow) — VIV 188/185
Vivid Voltage’s headline secret is the Rainbow Rare Pikachu VMAX, illustrated by aky CG Works. Amazing Volt Tackle does carry a rainbow HR alternate-art Pikachu VMAX in Japanese, but Limitless’s S4 catalogue doesn’t list a printed number for that HR slot, so we’re not going to state one here. What Limitless does catalogue at S4 031/100 is the regular RRR (triple rare) printing of Pikachu VMAX — not the Rainbow Rare — which cross-lists to a different English card — VIV 044, not the 188/185 secret. The image below is that RRR print, shown purely to illustrate the tier; it is not the rainbow HR chase card itself.

2. Rayquaza (Amazing Rare) — VIV 138/185
Illustrated by 5ban Graphics, this is the Amazing Rare tier’s dragon-type entry and one of the most requested cards from the set. Its Japanese original is S3a 056/076, Legendary Heartbeat, same illustrator and same artwork.

An Ultra Rare full-art in English, illustrated by Saki Hayashiro. The Japanese original is S4 104/100, a Super Rare in Amazing Volt Tackle, same illustrator and matching artwork.

Charizard also appears in this lineup, but only as a plain holo Rare — VIV 25/185, matched by S4 012/100 in Amazing Volt Tackle. It’s popular for the name alone, but it doesn’t sit in the Amazing Rare or full-art tier with the ten cards above.
Japanese vs English: What Changes
The two languages don’t just swap card text — the structure underneath is different in three ways worth knowing before you go looking for a specific number.
- Numbering. Japanese cards keep their own set-code numbering — S3a cards run out of 076, S4 cards out of 100 — while Vivid Voltage folds everything into one continuous English run out of 203 (185 base plus 18 secrets, numbered 186–203).
- Rarity tier shifts. This is the biggest gap on this list. Celebi, Raikou, Zacian, Zamazenta, Jirachi and Rayquaza are printed with an « A » (Amazing Rare) designation in Japanese and numbered inside Legendary Heartbeat’s 76-card base set — they are not secrets there. In English, all six move up into Vivid Voltage’s numbered 185-card run rather than being treated as secret rares, which is the reverse of what most collectors expect from a « chase card. »
- Card counts. Vivid Voltage’s 203 English cards draw from two separate Japanese sets that catalogue 196 entries between them — Amazing Volt Tackle (111 cards) and Legendary Heartbeat (85 cards). Not every Japanese card carries forward, and not every English secret has a clean one-to-one Japanese match; the Pikachu VMAX Rainbow Rare above is the clearest example.
- Release timing. Legendary Heartbeat released in Japan on July 10, 2020, and Amazing Volt Tackle followed on September 18, 2020. Vivid Voltage didn’t reach English shelves until November 13, 2020 — a two-to-four-month gap during which the Japanese originals were already circulating.
