The Anniversary Print: Arceus 036/036, First Edition
The Mythical & Legendary Dream Shine Collection (CP5) released in Japan on July 16, 2016 — the heart of the Pokemon 20th anniversary campaign, timed with the nineteenth movie. It’s a 36-card checklist (plus two EX secrets: Yveltal-EX at 037 and Xerneas-EX at 038) in which every card carries a gloss coating with a special holofoil inset and no printed rarity marks, packs held four cards instead of five, and the whole product stayed Japan-exclusive — there is no English equivalent set.
Arceus closes the checklist at 036/036 (with a second Arceus print one slot earlier at 035). Landing the creator god on the set’s final number in the anniversary product is exactly the sort of flourish that turns a card into a collecting target on its own. A year after the anniversary, Arceus got the other treatment collectors care about: a Shining print. Japan’s Shining Legends (SM3+, 2017) revived the “Shining Pokemon” concept from the early-2000s Neo era for a 72-card special expansion, and Shining Arceus at 059/072 is one of its headline cards — the shiny-colored creator god with the starburst Shining frame.
