Reshiram & Charizard GX Card Guide: SA, Gold & Best Reshiram

Reshiram & Charizard GX Card Guide: SA, Gold & Best Reshiram

Search “Reshiram and Charizard GX gold” and you’ll find two different cards, three different sellers calling the wrong one gold, and no clear answer. That confusion is the whole reason this guide exists.

Reshiram & Charizard GX is one of the most recognizable Tag Team cards from the SM era, and it now spans two languages, two eras, and at least six meaningfully different printings — from the Japanese special-art secret that anchors this guide down to a modern Reshiram ex chase card that didn’t exist until 2025. We hold graded copies of the key prints in Tokyo, so every price below is a live figure on stock we ship worldwide, not a scraped estimate.

The Two Copies This Guide Is Built Around

The Japanese PSA10 Reshiram & Charizard GX SA (097/095, Double Blaze) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) is currently listed at ¥360,500. For the modern side of the line, the PSA10 Reshiram ex BWR (174/086, White Flare) is currently listed at ¥141,316, with two graded copies available.

Reshiram & Charizard GX: the Tag Team Icon

Reshiram & Charizard GX pairs a Unova legendary with the franchise’s most requested Pokemon, and Japan’s SM10 Double Blaze gave it four separate printings on release in a single set — a regular RR, a full-art SR, a special-art SA, and a secret HR. The English release, Unbroken Bonds, followed two months later with its own base, full-art, and rainbow-rare treatments. Since then the pairing has been reprinted in Japanese high-class packs and given two separate gold-style promo cards, which is exactly where most of the confusion online starts.

This guide works through every printing in one place: which one is genuinely gold, which one is the SA everyone actually means when they say “the chase card,” and where the modern Reshiram ex line from 2025’s White Flare fits into the same collecting lane.

Every Reshiram & Charizard GX Printing

The confirmed prints across Japanese and English releases, including promos:

Card Set Language Rarity
007/095 Double Blaze (SM10) Japanese RR
096/095 Double Blaze (SM10) Japanese SR (full art)
097/095 Double Blaze (SM10) Japanese SA (special art)
108/095 Double Blaze (SM10) Japanese HR
016/173 Tag All Stars (SM12a) Japanese RR (reprint)
220/173 Tag All Stars (SM12a) Japanese UR (gold)
20/214 Unbroken Bonds English Base
194/214 Unbroken Bonds English Full Art
217/214 Unbroken Bonds English Rainbow Rare
SM201 SM Black Star Promos English Alternate Art Promo
SM247 SM Black Star Promos English Gold Full Art Promo

Two of these carry the most search interest and the most confusion — the Japanese SA and the two cards people call “gold.” Both get their own section below.

The Chase: SA 097/095 Special Art

PSA10 Reshiram & Charizard GX SA special art card 097/095 from Double Blaze
PSA10 Reshiram & Charizard GX SA, 097/095 — Double Blaze (SM10, Japan, March 2019)

Japan’s Double Blaze (SM10) released March 1, 2019, and its secret block gave Reshiram & Charizard GX the special-art (SA) treatment at 097/095, illustrated by Ryota Murayama. It’s a one-off scene illustration, distinct from the standard full-art SR one slot earlier in the checklist, and it’s the print collectors mean when they say “the Reshiram Charizard SA.”

Our PSA10 copy of the 097/095 SA (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) is currently listed at ¥360,500. The live secondary market for PSA10 copies clusters tightly between ¥350,000 and ¥370,000 across six recent listings, with a smaller number of outlier asks running well above that band. Our price sits inside that low cluster rather than chasing the outliers, which is the honest read of where this card actually trades right now.

English collectors have a rough counterpart in SM201, an alternate-art promo illustrated by the same artist, Ryota Murayama, and bundled with the Reshiram & Charizard-GX Figure Collection box. Whether SM201 shares the exact same artwork as 097/095 isn’t something we can confirm, but the shared illustrator is the clearest link between the two markets.

Solving the “Gold” Reshiram & Charizard Confusion

There are exactly two official gold Reshiram & Charizard GX cards, and neither of them is the one most often mislabeled as gold.

  • SM247 — an English gold full-art promo, entirely gold foil, illustrated by aky CG Works. It was bundled with the Reshiram & Charizard-GX Premium Collection box.
  • 220/173 UR — the Japanese gold ultra-rare from Tag All Stars (SM12a), Japan’s standard high-class-pack gold treatment for reprinted Tag Team cards. See our Tag All Stars pull rates guide for the rest of that set’s reprint block, including the 016/173 RR.
Check the Rarity, Not the Nickname

Unbroken Bonds 217/214 is a Rainbow Rare, not a gold card — but it turns up in listings titled “gold” often enough that the mislabel has become its own small industry. If a listing calls 217/214 gold, that’s a naming error, not a different card.

The Modern Chase: Reshiram ex BWR (White Flare)

PSA10 Reshiram ex, BWR 174/086 — White Flare (SV11W, Japan, June 2025)

Reshiram’s grail moved to a new card entirely when Japan’s White Flare (SV11W) released June 6, 2025 alongside its paired set, Black Bolt. White Flare introduced BWR (Black White Rare), a brand-new rarity tier that exists in exactly two forms across the whole SV11 pair — Reshiram ex at 174/086 in White Flare, and Zekrom ex in Black Bolt — each finished in a monochrome, metallic treatment unique to that single card per set. Community pull-rate estimates put it at approximately 1 in 22 boxes, though Pokemon has not published an official rate.

Our PSA10 Reshiram ex BWR is currently listed at ¥141,316, and we have two graded copies available. The live secondary market for this card runs from about ¥137,800 to ¥150,000 across eight recent PSA10 listings; our price undercuts six of those eight. For the full pull-rate breakdown and the rest of the White Flare secret block, see our White Flare pull rates and best cards guide.

If you’re chasing the wider Tao Trio rather than Reshiram alone, our graded stock also includes cameo pieces from the 2015 Legendary Shine Collection (CP2) — a 27-card, movie-tied Japanese set where every card carries a special holo-and-gloss treatment: Zekrom 009/027 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) at ¥97,849, White Kyurem R 021/027 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) at ¥49,440, and Black Kyurem R (1st Edition) 020/027 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) at ¥46,350.

Entry Point: SR and Amazing Rare

Two lower-cost PSA10 Reshiram cards round out the lineup, both under ¥7,000:

Reshiram ex SR, 160/086 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) (White Flare)
¥6,928

PSA10 Reshiram Amazing Rare card 021/190 from Shiny Star V

¥6,695

The Reshiram ex SR (160/086) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), from the same White Flare set as the BWR, is currently listed at ¥6,928 — on the low end of a market that runs roughly ¥6,480 to ¥10,900 in PSA10.

The Reshiram Amazing Rare (021/190) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) comes from the Japanese high-class pack Shiny Star V (s4a), illustrated by PLANETA Tsuji, with Shining Fates 017/072 as its English counterpart. Amazing Rare is its own special rainbow-foil rarity tier — we cover it in more depth in our Shiny Star V pull rates guide. At ¥6,695, our copy currently undercuts every recent PSA10 ask we’ve tracked for this card, which range from ¥6,500 up to ¥19,200.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Reshiram & Charizard GX card is the special art?

097/095 from Japan’s Double Blaze (SM10), illustrated by Ryota Murayama. Our PSA10 copy is currently listed at ¥360,500, inside the ¥350,000–¥370,000 cluster where most current PSA10 listings sit.

Which Reshiram & Charizard GX card is actually gold?

Two cards are officially gold: the English SM247 full-art promo and the Japanese 220/173 UR from Tag All Stars (SM12a). Unbroken Bonds 217/214 is a Rainbow Rare, not gold, despite frequently being mislabeled that way in listings.

What is Reshiram ex BWR and how rare is it?

BWR (Black White Rare) is a new rarity introduced in Japan’s White Flare (SV11W, June 2025), with a monochrome metallic finish. It exists as exactly one card per set in the SV11 pair — Reshiram ex 174/086 in White Flare. Community pull-rate estimates put it at approximately 1 in 22 boxes; Pokemon has not published an official rate. Our PSA10 copy is currently listed at ¥141,316, with two graded copies available.

What’s the cheapest way to own a graded Reshiram card?

The Reshiram Amazing Rare (021/190) from Shiny Star V, currently listed at ¥6,695, or the Reshiram ex SR (160/086) from White Flare at ¥6,928. Both are PSA10 and ship from our Tokyo stock.

Is Reshiram & Charizard GX 097/095 the same artwork as the English SM201 promo?

Both are illustrated by Ryota Murayama and share an alternate-art concept, and SM201 was bundled with the Reshiram & Charizard-GX Figure Collection box in English. Whether the two share the exact same illustration hasn’t been confirmed, so we describe SM201 as the English alternate-art counterpart rather than an identical print.
