Pokemon Center Regional Special Boxes: Guide

Pokemon Center Regional Special Boxes: Guide

Three Special Boxes, three cities, one launch day — and two completely different promo Pikachu that share almost the same name but nothing else. “Regional Pikachu” is a catch-all search term that actually spans a decade of Pokemon Center history, from a nationwide 2016 campaign card to a trio of 2025 store-renewal boxes sold by lottery.

This guide walks through both generations: the 2025 Special Box trio for Pokemon Center Tohoku, Hiroshima and Fukuoka, and the earlier Sapporo and Kanazawa promo Pikachu that get lumped in under the same “regional Pikachu” label. We stock sealed boxes and PSA 10 graded singles from both eras, shipped from Tokyo.

Key Takeaway

We currently carry all three 2025 renewal boxes — Pokemon Center Tohoku Special BOX, currently listed at ¥16,625 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), Pokemon Center Hiroshima Special BOX, currently listed at ¥21,000 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), and Pokemon Center Fukuoka Special BOX, currently listed at ¥17,575 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) — plus PSA 10 graded singles of the three exclusive promo Pikachu inside them, from ¥38,089 to ¥50,243. Each graded single is a one-of-one stock listing — when it sells, it’s gone until we source another.

What Are Pokemon Center Special Boxes?

A Pokemon Center “Special Box” is a store-specific product sold through Pokemon Center Online, built around a single exclusive promo card that isn’t available anywhere else. They’re tied to a real-world event at a specific store — an opening, a renewal, a relocation — rather than to a card set’s normal release schedule. Because the promo card only ever ships inside that one box, from that one campaign, these products get chased long after the original sale window closes.

Our Japan-exclusive Pokemon cards guide covers this category more broadly; the sections below focus specifically on the region-and-store-branded Pikachu boxes, which is where most of the confusion starts.

The 2025 Renewal Trio: Tohoku, Hiroshima & Fukuoka

In 2025, three Pokemon Center stores — Pokemon Center Tohoku, Pokemon Center Hiroshima and Pokemon Center Fukuoka — underwent renewals, and Pokemon Center Online marked all three with a matching Special Box. Lottery sales opened on Friday, June 13, 2025, and each box carried an identical structure and price: ¥2,090 (tax included) at original retail.

Contents were the same across all three boxes:

  • One exclusive promo card (holofoil “kira” finish)
  • One deck shield set (64 sleeves)
  • One deck case
  • One long card storage box

The only thing that changed box to box was which region’s Pikachu came inside — and, in Hiroshima’s case, the story behind why.

Why Hiroshima’s Launch Had Its Own Window

Hiroshima’s box specifically commemorated the store’s move from the Sogo Hiroshima department store to the Minamoa commercial facility. Its first application period ran June 13–17, 2025, with lottery results announced June 27. Tohoku and Fukuoka launched the same day, June 13, but as separate renewal campaigns for their own locations.

Meet the Three Promo Pikachu

Each 2025 box’s promo card is a Pikachu bearing the host store’s name, all issued under the SV-P promotional card series:

Fukuoka’s Pikachu P [SV-P 289] — Special Box “Pokemon Center Fukuoka”

All three cards are Electric-type with 70 HP and share the same first attack, “Renewal Open!” (draw 2 cards from your deck) — a direct nod to the store renewal each box was built to celebrate. Only the second attack and illustrator change store to store: Tohoku’s Pikachu (illustrated by Kouki Saitou) also knows “Odorimawaru” (flip coins until tails, 30 damage per heads), Hiroshima’s Pikachu (illustrated by REOspikee) also knows “Norikonasu” (30+ damage, flip a coin for an extra 30), and Fukuoka’s Pikachu (illustrated by Nelnal) also knows “Tabearuku” (30 damage, heals this Pokemon for 30).

Our Pokemon Center Pikachu promo guide rounds up the wider family of store-exclusive Pikachu cards if you’re tracking the set beyond this trio, and our SV-P promo guide covers where these three sit inside the current SV-P promotional numbering.

Lottery Timeline by Store

All three boxes shared the same June 13–17, 2025 application window, but each store’s lottery resolved on its own schedule:

Store Results announced Purchase window Shipping began
Tohoku June 20, 2025 June 20–24, 2025 Mid-August 2025
Hiroshima June 27, 2025 June 27–July 1, 2025 Early September 2025
Fukuoka July 5, 2025 July 4–8, 2025 Late September 2025

Each store ran a single lottery allocation — there was no separate application round beyond the shared June 13–17 window, just staggered results and purchase windows per store.

The Earlier Generation: Sapporo & Kanazawa Pikachu

Before the 2025 renewal trio, two other Pokemon Center promo Pikachu picked up the “regional” label — and both come from a different kind of event entirely.

Sapporo’s Pikachu (SM-P 005)

Sapporo’s Pikachu was released Thursday, December 1, 2016, to commemorate the reopening of Pokemon Center Sapporo at its new Daimaru Sapporo location, illustrated by kawayoo. The card itself wasn’t a Sapporo-store-only giveaway, though — it was distributed at every Pokemon Center and Pokemon Store location nationwide, plus online, with one card given per five expansion packs purchased (any expansion, buyer’s choice). The “Sapporo” in the name refers to the store whose reopening the card commemorates, not a store-exclusive pickup location.

Kanazawa’s Pikachu (S-P 144 / S-P 147)

Kanazawa’s Pikachu was created to mark the opening of Pokemon Center Kanazawa, and it exists as two distinct printings. 144/S-P, the version we carry, is the “with mark” printing that was distributed free to visitors at Pokemon Center and Pokemon Store locations nationwide during its distribution period. A second printing, 147/S-P, was only available bundled inside a purchase-required Special Box. We don’t currently list 147/S-P. The exact date the 144/S-P distribution began isn’t documented in our sourcing, so we can’t put a specific calendar date on it.

Kanazawa Pikachu With Mark [S-P 144] — S-P Promotional Cards
PSA 10, currently listed at ¥71,956 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order)

Note the price gap: our PSA 10 Sapporo Pikachu sits well above every 2025 box promo, and above the Kanazawa piece too. Nationwide distribution didn’t make Sapporo’s Pikachu common — it’s simply an older, 2016-era promo where high-grade population is thinner, and demand for the reopening-commemoration card has stayed strong for nearly a decade.

Don’t Lump These Together

Search results and secondary listings tend to group every store-branded Pikachu under one “regional Pikachu” label, but the five cards here come from two genuinely different kinds of event, five years or more apart in launch context:

  • Store renewal (2025): Tohoku, Hiroshima and Fukuoka Pikachu were each created to mark a specific store’s renewal or relocation, sold by lottery in a purpose-built Special Box.
  • Store opening or reopening commemoration (2016 and S-series): Sapporo’s Pikachu commemorated Pokemon Center Sapporo’s reopening but was distributed nationwide at any Pokemon Center or Pokemon Store visit, not picked up in-store. Kanazawa’s Pikachu marked a store opening rather than a renewal.

Treating all five as one interchangeable “regional Pikachu” bucket misses the reason each card exists, and can lead to comparing a nationwide campaign giveaway against a single-store lottery box as if they were the same kind of product. They aren’t — and the price table above reflects that.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Pokemon Center Special Box?

A store-specific product sold through Pokemon Center Online, built around one exclusive promo card tied to a real-world store event — an opening, renewal or relocation — rather than a normal set release.

Are the Tohoku, Hiroshima and Fukuoka promo Pikachu the same card?

No. Each is a separate SV-P numbered promo — Tohoku’s Pikachu (260/SV-P), Hiroshima’s Pikachu (261/SV-P) and Fukuoka’s Pikachu (289/SV-P) — sharing the same box format and June 13, 2025 launch date but different card numbers and artwork.

Is Sapporo’s Pikachu (SM-P 005) exclusive to Sapporo stores?

No. The card commemorates Pokemon Center Sapporo’s reopening on December 1, 2016, but it was distributed nationwide at every Pokemon Center and Pokemon Store location plus online (one card per five expansion packs purchased) — not a Sapporo-only pickup.

What’s the difference between Kanazawa Pikachu 144/S-P and 147/S-P?

144/S-P was distributed free to store visitors nationwide during its distribution period. 147/S-P (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) was only available bundled inside a purchase-required Special Box. We currently carry only 144/S-P.

Did the Tohoku, Hiroshima and Fukuoka Special Box lotteries all run on the same schedule?

They shared the same June 13–17, 2025 application window but resolved separately: Tohoku’s results were announced June 20 (purchase window June 20–24), Hiroshima’s on June 27 (purchase window June 27–July 1), and Fukuoka’s on July 5 (purchase window July 4–8).
