What Is the 25th Anniversary Golden Box?
The 25th ANNIVERSARY GOLDEN BOX is a Pokemon Center Online-exclusive accessory box built around Pikachu’s 25th-anniversary branding. It was originally scheduled for release on October 22, 2021, at a retail price of ¥17,600 (tax included).
Rather than a standard on-sale date, Pokemon Center Online sold the box through a lottery. Applications were open from October 4, 2021, 10:00, through October 10, 2021, 23:59, with winners announced from October 27 onward. The original shipping window was pushed back from the initial plan to sometime in winter 2021.
This is one-of-one sealed stock, factory sealed — when it sells, it’s gone until we source another.
The 2021 Lottery, the Delay, and the Backorder Run
The Golden Box’s launch didn’t go the way Pokemon Center Online planned. Demand for the lottery slots outstripped supply so heavily that the company formally decided to run a second, backorder production cycle — a step that isn’t common for a standard Pokemon Center accessory release.
Per Resemom’s coverage of the decision, backorder applications for this second production run were accepted from spring 2022 onward, with shipping for that batch planned for winter 2022 onward — roughly a year after the original October 2021 lottery window closed.

We don’t have confirmed figures on the final shipped quantity from the backorder run, or on whether pricing was revised between the two production cycles, so we’re not stating either as fact here.
What’s Inside the Box
The Golden Box packs in a specific, documented set of contents. Per Hobby Watch’s product breakdown, the box includes:
- A special Pikachu-axis deck — 60 cards, every single one a holo (kira) print
- 64 deck sleeves (60 for play, 4 spare)
- Two types of metal Special Condition markers
- A resin Pokemon coin
- 12 metal damage counter dice

The special deck itself breaks down as: Pikachu V (four total, one of which is the box’s exclusive gold Full Art print), Pikachu (four copies), Raichu (four copies), Pikachu VMAX (one copy), Poké Ball (four total, one of which is a matching gold Full Art print), Potion (two copies), Great Ball (two copies), Switch (two copies), Pokemon Catcher (three copies), four copies of the trainer card “Professor’s Research,” two copies of the supporter Bede, four copies of the trainer card “ポケモンごっこ,” four copies of the supporter Hop, and 20 basic Lightning Energy — 60 cards total.
The S8a-G Subset: The Deck’s Exclusive Cards
The cards inside the Golden Box’s special deck aren’t pulled from any mainline expansion. They’re catalogued under their own dedicated set code, S8a-G, numbered with a /015 denominator — that is, card numbers running from 001/015 up through at least 015/015. Most of the deck is printed in mirror-holo (all-foil) finish, headlined by two cards with a distinct gold Full Art treatment: Pikachu V (001/015) and Poké Ball (002/015).
Documented examples from this subset include Pikachu V [S8a-G 001/015] and Raichu [S8a-G 004/015], alongside the box’s headline pull, Pikachu VMAX [S8a-G 006/015].
We’ve confirmed the /015 denominator directly against card listings, so that’s what we’re using here. Some third-party marketplace checklists reference an additional, unnumbered secret print beyond 015/015, but we haven’t been able to verify that against a primary source, so we’re not stating a total card count as fact.
Because these are prints locked to this specific product, none of the S8a-G cards are pullable from a Pikachu VMAX booster box, a regular S8a “25th Anniversary Collection” pack, or any other Japanese release — the only way to get one is to own the Golden Box itself, or to buy one already pulled and sold individually.
The Chase Card: Pikachu VMAX (S8a-G 006/015)
Every Golden Box guarantees exactly one copy of Pikachu VMAX, numbered S8a-G 006/015 — the single copy built into the deck’s 60-card holo count. It’s a one-per-box, product-exclusive VMAX print — and the S8a-G single we currently carry graded — that doesn’t exist in any other Japanese release.
A note on imagery: we weren’t able to source a verified product image specifically for the S8a-G Pikachu VMAX (006/015) print itself, so we’re not displaying it here as a stand-in. What we can show is the regular Pikachu-family lineup from S8a “25th Anniversary Collection” — the standard mainline expansion released the same anniversary season, sharing the same Pikachu-focused branding but a completely separate set code and card pool from the Golden Box’s exclusive S8a-G subset.
