Moonbreon (Umbreon VMAX) Value Guide: Every Printing & Price (2026)

Moonbreon (Umbreon VMAX) Value Guide: Every Printing & Price (2026)

One card, one night-sky illustration, two languages — and a price gap between the alt art and its own set-mate that runs into six figures in yen.

“Moonbreon” is the nickname collectors gave to a single Umbreon VMAX illustration: Umbreon curled up under a full moon, painted by KEIICHIRO ITO. It first appeared in Japan in the Eevee Heroes expansion as S6a 095/069 HR (Special Art), then reappeared three months later in English as Evolving Skies 215/203 Alternate Art Secret Rare — the print most Western collectors know it by. But Moonbreon is only one of ten total Umbreon VMAX printings across the two languages, and mixing it up with its cheaper set-mates is an easy way to overpay or undersell.

This guide lays out every Umbreon VMAX printing we could verify as of August 2026 — six Japanese, four English — explains exactly which one is Moonbreon, and walks through current PSA 10 market activity for the Japanese print. Knowing the difference matters at every price point: a raw copy of the wrong printing and a raw copy of Moonbreon can sit in the same binder page and be worth wildly different amounts, and the gap only widens once grading enters the picture. For the wider Umbreon lineup beyond VMAX, see our top Umbreon cards guide; our sister article on Sylveon ex’s every-printing breakdown covers the other Eeveelution chase card from the same era.

Key Takeaway

Moonbreon is specifically JP S6a 095/069 HR (Special Art) and EN Evolving Skies 215/203 Alternate Art Secret Rare — both painted by KEIICHIRO ITO. It is not the regular RRR/Triple Rare (AKIRA EGAWA art), the rainbow HR/Secret Rare, or the Trainer Gallery CSR (kawayoo art, a different Umbreon illustration entirely). On snkrdunk, PSA 10 Japanese Moonbreon copies are currently asking ¥899,999–¥1,000,000 (~$6,122–$6,803); our own PSA 10 copies were recently listed at ¥959,731 (~$6,529) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) and ¥961,791 (~$6,543) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) (both currently out of stock — restock requests via Quick Order).

Every Umbreon VMAX Printing

Six Japanese card entries across three products, plus four English prints across two sets — ten total. Only three of these have verifiable market pricing in this guide; the rest are catalogued here so you can identify what you’re holding.

Rows 3 and 9 — the two HR/Alt Art Secret Rares by KEIICHIRO ITO — are Moonbreon. Row 5 and row 10 share the same kawayoo trainer-scene artwork across languages, but that is a separate illustration and not Moonbreon. We found no UR (gold) Umbreon VMAX printing in either language’s database; this list reflects what our sources could verify.

What Is “Moonbreon,” Exactly

Umbreon VMAX 095/069 HR Special Art (Eevee Heroes S6a)
Umbreon VMAX 095/069 HR Special Art (Eevee Heroes S6a)

“Moonbreon” refers to one specific illustration: Umbreon resting under a full moon, painted by KEIICHIRO ITO. In Japan it’s S6a 095/069, HR (Special Art), released as part of Eevee Heroes on May 28, 2021. In English it’s Evolving Skies 215/203, Alternate Art Secret Rare, released August 27, 2021. The nickname is community-driven rather than official Pokemon Company naming, but it’s widely used enough that even secondary-market listings reference it directly.

It’s easy to confuse Moonbreon with its own set-mates, because Eevee Heroes and Evolving Skies each print Umbreon VMAX three separate times:

  • The regular art — JP 048/069 RRR and EN 095/203 Triple Rare — both by AKIRA EGAWA. This is not Moonbreon.
  • The rainbow / holo version of the same regular art — JP 094/069 HR and EN 214/203 Secret Rare. Same base illustration, rainbow foil treatment. Also not Moonbreon.
  • The night-sky alt art — JP 095/069 HR (SA) and EN 215/203 Alternate Art Secret Rare, both by KEIICHIRO ITO. This is Moonbreon.

A fourth Umbreon VMAX illustration exists — the CSR “trainer scene” art by kawayoo, printed as JP S8b 245/184 and its English Trainer Gallery counterpart, BRS TG23. That card gets its own spotlight later in this guide, but it is a different piece of art entirely and shouldn’t be mistaken for Moonbreon when buying or selling.

When you’re checking a listing or a binder page against this guide, the fastest tell is the card number paired with the rarity marking — not the artwork alone, since a rainbow foil can look “special” at a glance even though it’s the same base illustration as the plain RRR. Confirm the number (095/069 in Japanese, 215/203 in English) before assuming you’re looking at Moonbreon.

The Full Japanese Lineup

All six Japanese Umbreon VMAX cards come from three products released within seven months of each other in 2021.

Eevee Heroes (S6a), May 28, 2021 — the set that introduced Moonbreon — carries all three versions of the card: 048/069 RRR (AKIRA EGAWA), 094/069 HR rainbow, and 095/069 HR (SA) Moonbreon.

Umbreon VMAX 048/069 RRR (Eevee Heroes S6a)

Umbreon VMAX 048/069 RRR (Eevee Heroes S6a)

VMAX Climax (S8b), December 3, 2021 added two more prints: 101/184 RRR, the standard holo art by AKIRA EGAWA, and 245/184 CSR — the kawayoo trainer-scene art. For the wider set context, our VMAX Climax card list guide covers the rest of that release.

Umbreon VMAX 245/184 CSR (VMAX Climax S8b)

Umbreon VMAX 245/184 CSR (VMAX Climax S8b)

Start Deck 100 (SI), December 17, 2021 closed out the year with a straightforward deck reprint at 256/414, using the same regular art as the RRR prints. It’s a deck-box card rather than a chase pull, and its exact rarity marking (if any) is unconfirmed — treat it as the accessible, low-rarity end of the Umbreon VMAX lineup.

The English Side: Evolving Skies & Brilliant Stars

English collectors mostly encounter Umbreon VMAX through two sets, released about six months apart.

Evolving Skies (EVS / SWSH07), August 27, 2021 mirrors the Eevee Heroes lineup almost exactly: 095/203 Triple Rare (AKIRA EGAWA regular art), 214/203 Secret Rare (rainbow version of the same art), and 215/203 Alternate Art Secret Rare — the EN Moonbreon, by KEIICHIRO ITO.

Brilliant Stars (BRS), February 25, 2022 carries the Trainer Gallery card, TG23, a Character Super Rare using the kawayoo trainer-scene art — the direct English equivalent of the Japanese S8b 245/184 CSR. It is not an English print of Moonbreon; it’s the English print of the fourth illustration.

We found no gold/UR printing in the databases we consulted, and these are the English printings verified by our sources — no other English set carries an Umbreon VMAX beyond these two.

Japanese Moonbreon vs English Moonbreon

Same illustration, same artist, different market. The Japanese S6a 095/069 HR (SA) released on May 28, 2021 — roughly three months ahead of the English Evolving Skies 215/203 on August 27, 2021. That head start is one reason the Japanese print built its own dedicated secondary market on platforms like snkrdunk well before the English alt art became a Western collecting fixture.

The two are cosmetically distinguishable at a glance: the Japanese card carries the S6a “HR” designation and 095/069 numbering in Japanese set formatting, while the English card is marked 215/203 with the standard EVS footer. Card text and attack names are printed in each card’s respective language. Beyond that, there’s no meaningful gameplay difference — the appeal is entirely about which print of the artwork you want to own.

Because we source and grade directly out of Japan, the pricing data in this guide focuses on the Japanese side of the market, where we can verify our own listings against live snkrdunk activity. We don’t have equivalent English-market comps to cite here, so if you’re comparing the two directly, treat the Japanese figures below as Japan-specific rather than a universal benchmark.

For buyers outside Japan, this is also a timing and sourcing question as much as a cosmetic one. The Japanese print reached the secondary market first, and it’s the version we handle directly — sourcing in Japan, inspecting condition, and submitting eligible cards to PSA — PSA independently determines authenticity and grade — rather than importing an already-graded English copy. If your priority is owning the original release of the artwork rather than the version most familiar from English-language content, the Japanese S6a 095/069 is that card.

The PSA 10 Market for Moonbreon

On snkrdunk, raw (ungraded) Japanese Moonbreon copies are listed from around ¥400,000 (~$2,721) new-condition up to ¥644,999 (~$4,388) for a used-A grade copy — already a meaningful spread before grading even enters the picture.

PSA 10 asks on the same platform currently run ¥899,999 (~$6,122), ¥900,000 (~$6,122), ¥917,500 (~$6,241), and ¥1,000,000 (~$6,803) across four separate listings, which is enough of a sample to call a real asking-price spread rather than a one-off. One BGS 10 Black Label listing has been observed with a seven-figure yen ask — a single outlier, not a market.

Our own PSA 10 Japanese Moonbreon copies were recently listed at ¥959,731 (~$6,529) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) and ¥961,791 (~$6,543) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) — both sit inside the snkrdunk PSA 10 ask range. Both are currently out of stock; restock requests can be placed through our Quick Order page.

For a far more accessible PSA 10 entry into the same lineup, the standard VMAX Climax RRR — 101/184, the AKIRA EGAWA regular art — is currently listed at ¥9,785 (~$67) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). It’s a different illustration from Moonbreon, but it’s the same card name and set family at a fraction of the cost.

PSA 10 ¥9,785 (~$67) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order)

Two other PSA 10 Umbreon cards worth knowing sit outside the VMAX line entirely but come up in the same searches: our PSA 10 Umbreon & Darkrai GX SR SA, currently listed at ¥385,632 (~$2,623) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), and our PSA 10 Umbreon GX HR Collection Moon, currently listed at ¥375,700 (~$2,556). Both are pre-VMAX Sun & Moon-era cards, not part of the printing list above, but they’re a reasonable mid-tier alternative if the Moonbreon price bracket is out of reach. Our PSA 10 Eeveelutions buying guide covers grading considerations across the whole Eeveelution family.

How to Pull Moonbreon: Eevee Heroes

The Japanese Moonbreon is exclusive to one product: Eevee Heroes (S6a), released May 28, 2021 — it has never been reprinted, and it doesn’t appear in any later Japanese set, deck, or promo. The English Moonbreon is exclusive to Evolving Skies, released August 27, 2021, and is likewise unreprinted. We don’t have a published pull-rate figure to cite here, so treat any chance of pulling one from a box as unknown rather than assume a specific rate.

Sealed Eevee Heroes booster boxes are currently listed at ¥159,600 (~$1,086). For collectors chasing the full Eeveelution spread rather than opening packs, we also carry the Eevee Heroes Eeveelutions Set, currently listed at ¥400,000 (~$2,721) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). For a breakdown of what else is in the set beyond Umbreon, see our Eevee Heroes card list and S6a best-cards roundup.

Buying Sealed vs. Buying the Single

If your goal is specifically the graded Moonbreon single, buying a PSA 10 copy directly removes the uncertainty of opening product to chase one card. If you want the full box-opening experience and are fine with any outcome, sealed Eevee Heroes product is the route to a first-pull copy of the Japanese print.

Beyond VMAX: One More Umbreon to Know

Umbreon 092/187 Master Ball Mirror (Terastal Festival ex SV8a)

Umbreon 092/187 Master Ball Mirror (Terastal Festival ex SV8a)

Umbreon VMAX isn’t the only Umbreon print collectors search for. The Scarlet & Violet-era Terastal Festival ex (SV8a) includes a Master Ball Mirror Umbreon at 092/187 — a completely different card, mechanic, and illustration from anything on this list. Worth knowing so you don’t confuse a search result for it with one of the ten VMAX printings above.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Moonbreon?

Moonbreon is the community nickname for the Umbreon VMAX alternate-art illustration by KEIICHIRO ITO showing Umbreon under a full moon. It was printed as Japanese S6a 095/069 HR (Special Art) in Eevee Heroes on May 28, 2021, and as English Evolving Skies 215/203 Alternate Art Secret Rare on August 27, 2021.

How many Umbreon VMAX printings are there?

Ten confirmed printings: six Japanese (Eevee Heroes 048/069 RRR, 094/069 HR, and 095/069 HR SA Moonbreon; VMAX Climax 101/184 RRR and 245/184 CSR; Start Deck 100 256/414) and four English (Evolving Skies 095/203 Triple Rare, 214/203 Secret Rare, and 215/203 Alt Art Secret Rare Moonbreon; Brilliant Stars TG23 Trainer Gallery CSR).

What’s the difference between Japanese and English Moonbreon?

Both are the same KEIICHIRO ITO illustration. The Japanese print (S6a 095/069 HR SA) released about three months before the English print (Evolving Skies 215/203 Alternate Art Secret Rare). Card text is printed in each card’s respective language; there’s no gameplay difference between them.

How much does a PSA 10 Moonbreon cost?

On snkrdunk, Japanese PSA 10 Moonbreon copies are currently asking ¥899,999 to ¥1,000,000 (roughly $6,122 to $6,803). Our own PSA 10 copies were recently listed at ¥959,731 (~$6,529) and ¥961,791 (~$6,543), both currently out of stock.

How do you pull Moonbreon?

The Japanese Moonbreon only comes from sealed Eevee Heroes (S6a) booster product, released May 28, 2021; the English Moonbreon only comes from Evolving Skies, released August 27, 2021. Neither has been reprinted in any later set. No official pull-rate figure is cited here, so treat the odds from any single box as unknown.
