No Eeveelution has a chase-card list like Umbreon’s. Search “umbreon vmax” and you’ll find a card asking six figures in yen. Search “shiny umbreon” and you land on a completely different set and price band entirely. There is no single “the Umbreon card” — there are at least ten of them worth knowing, spanning a 2005 fan-club promo to a 2025 English special illustration rare.

Two things stand out. First, the top of the list is dominated by full-art and secret-rare treatments from the Sword & Shield era — the same run of sets that produced most of the game’s highest-value chase cards across every Pokemon, not just Umbreon. Second, several of the older or more limited cards (the Gold Star, the Ultra Shiny SSR) don’t have a current, reliable ask cluster to cite, which is its own signal about how thin their trading volume is compared to the newer prints.
10 to 6: The Value Tier
10. Umbreon-GX, Ultra Shiny SSR (Shiny Umbreon)
The “shiny umbreon” search term points most often to this card: Umbreon-GX, #229/150, SSR, from SM8b GX Ultra Shiny, released November 2, 2018. The English equivalent is Umbreon-GX from Hidden Fates: Shiny Vault, #SV69/SV94, illustrated by 5ban Graphics and released August 23, 2019. Both cards use the black-palette “shiny” recolor rather than the standard tan-and-cream Umbreon, which is the visual signature the entire Ultra Shiny and Shiny Vault sub-sets are built around. We don’t have a current measured ask for either printing, so it closes out this list as the card most worth researching fresh before buying rather than one with a stable reference price. Worth noting: the newer SV4a Shiny Treasure ex set, sometimes assumed to be the current “shiny dex” release, does not contain an Umbreon card at all — don’t confuse the two eras when searching.
9. Umbreon Master Ball Mirror / Poke Ball Mirror
From the same SV8a Terastal Festival ex set as the ex SAR below sits the plain “Umbreon” (not “Umbreon ex”) at #092/187, printed as two separate parallel foils: a Master Ball Mirror and a Monster Ball (Poke Ball) Mirror. These are two different tiers of the same card number, and the market treats them as such — the Master Ball mirror carries a PSA 10 ask around ¥38,500 (single listing), while the raw-card ask band for the mirrors spans roughly ¥9,000–¥60,000 depending on condition. We currently list a graded PSA 10 Poke Ball mirror at ¥11,227 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), which sits well under the Master Ball tier and is the most accessible graded Umbreon on this entire list.
8. Umbreon V CSR
Umbreon V, #244/184, CSR (Character Super Rare), from S8b VMAX Climax (released December 3, 2021), pairs the standing full-art V illustration with the set’s signature character-focused background treatment. PSA 10 asks currently cluster at ¥50,000 and ¥100,000. A graded copy is currently listed at ¥30,014 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) in our shop, under both reference asks.
7. Umbreon VMAX CSR
The VMAX counterpart, Umbreon VMAX, #245/184, CSR, also from S8b VMAX Climax, is illustrated by kawayoo and depicts the trainer character Karen — the same artwork that appears in English as Umbreon VMAX, Brilliant Stars Trainer Gallery TG23/TG30, Ultra Rare. It’s a visually distinct card from the Moonbreon alt art at #1; don’t conflate the two just because both are Umbreon VMAX secret/character rares. PSA 10 asks currently cluster around ¥50,000, ¥99,999, and ¥100,000. Our own graded copy is currently out of stock, last listed at ¥44,599 before selling through — a restock is possible but not scheduled.
6. Umbreon ex SAR (Terastal Festival ex) / SIR (Prismatic Evolutions)
Umbreon ex, #217/187, SAR, from SV8a Terastal Festival ex (released December 6, 2024), is the Japanese printing of the artwork that later became Umbreon ex, Special Illustration Rare, #161/131, in the English Prismatic Evolutions set (released January 17, 2025), both illustrated by Yashiro Nanaco. It’s one of the newer cards on this list and one of the most cited modern Umbreon chase cards in either language — some enthusiast writeups even group it with the “moon backdrop” Moonbreon family informally, though that’s a community categorization rather than an official one. PSA 10 asks currently cluster tightly at ¥97,000, ¥97,000, and ¥99,800 (a small number of isolated listings well outside that range were excluded as noise). 5 to 1: The Chase Tier
5. Umbreon V, Special Full Art (SA)
This is the card behind most “umbreon v alt art” searches: Umbreon V, #085/069, SA, in S6a Eevee Heroes, illustrated by Teeziro. The English equivalent is Umbreon V, Special Full Art, #189/203, in SWSH07 Evolving Skies, released in the same window as Moonbreon itself. It shouldn’t be confused with the regular Full Art print at 084/069 (SR, no “SA”), which is a different, lower-tier card despite sharing most of the same visual elements. Raw copies currently ask ¥54,500 and ¥119,999; PSA 10 asks cluster from ¥120,000 up to ¥220,000 across six recent listings. We do not currently stock the 085/069 SA copy graded — our in-stock Umbreon V listing is the separate 084/069 non-SA print, out of stock at last check.
4. Umbreon & Darkrai-GX, Tag Team
The tag-team era gave Umbreon a partner card: Umbreon & Darkrai-GX, illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita in its regular prints. The Japanese Full Art HR sits at SM12a Tag All Stars, #215/173; a Special Art (SA) print by illustrator so-taro exists at #182/173, matching the English SM Black Star Promo #SM241 special full art released March 27, 2020 as part of the TAG TEAM Powers Collection. The standard English print is Unified Minds #125/236, 270 HP. PSA 10 asks for the JP HR print currently sit around ¥158,000 (a single listing, so treat it as directional rather than a firm cluster). We list a graded copy of the rarer SR/SA print (a different card from the HR referenced here) currently out of stock at ¥328,570 before its last sale.
3. Umbreon GX, HR (Collection Moon)
Umbreon GX, #069/060, HR, from SM1M Collection Moon, is a 2017-era full-art GX — not to be confused with the SR print at #063/060 from the same set, a different card number entirely. PSA 10 asks currently cluster from ¥300,000 to ¥650,000 across three listings (a PSA 9 copy asks separately around ¥80,000, useful as a reference point for the grade gap on this card specifically).
2. Umbreon ★ (Gold Star)
Before full arts and secret rares existed as a category, there was the Gold Star era, and Umbreon’s entry in it is one of the harder cards on this list to even find listed. The Japanese original is a PLAY Promotional card, #026/PLAY (ブラッキー☆), distributed through the Daisuki Pokemon Fan Club between 2005 and 2006 — Bulbapedia describes it as requiring 70,000 accumulated points to redeem, and characterizes it as extremely difficult to obtain. The English equivalent is POP Series 5, #17/17, Rare Holo ★, illustrated by Masakazu Fukuda. Both versions were later reprinted in Confetti Holofoil for the Celebrations 25th Anniversary release in 2021 (and a matching 25th Anniversary promo pack in Japan), which is the most realistic entry point if you want a Gold Star Umbreon without chasing the original PLAY promo. We don’t have a current, citable ask range for either the original or the reprint, so treat this entry as a card to research fresh at the point of purchase rather than one with a stable reference price.
1. Umbreon VMAX, HR SA — “Moonbreon”
Umbreon VMAX, #095/069, HR (Hyper Rare / full-art secret), from S6a Eevee Heroes (released May 28, 2021), illustrated by Keiichiro Ito, is the card almost everyone means when they say “Moonbreon.” The English printing is Umbreon VMAX, Alternate Art Secret, #215/203, in SWSH07 Evolving Skies, released August 27, 2021. The nickname — a community name, not an official Pokemon Company title — refers to the artwork’s night-sky scene, where Umbreon reaches toward a glowing moon from a tower-and-seaside setting; some writeups compare the composition to Van Gogh’s Starry Night. That artwork has never been reprinted; a different Umbreon VMAX full art by illustrator kawayoo (featuring the trainer Karen) appears later in the CSR line covered at #7 above, and the two shouldn’t be conflated just because both are “Umbreon VMAX secret/character rares.”
PSA 10 asks currently cluster at ¥920,000, ¥920,000, ¥930,000, and ¥1,000,000 (two isolated listings asking ¥980,000 and ¥3,800,000 were excluded as outliers well outside this cluster). We hold a single graded copy — a one-of-one in our current inventory rather than a restockable line item.

- Under ¥15,000 — the PSA 10 Poke Ball mirror (#9), currently listed at ¥11,227. It’s a genuine graded parallel from the same Terastal Festival ex set as the SAR chase card, just a lower foil tier.
- ¥30,000–¥100,000 — Umbreon V CSR (#30,014 in stock), Umbreon VMAX CSR (asks ¥50,000–¥100,000), or the Umbreon ex SAR/SIR (¥99,024 in stock). This is the widest, most liquid band on the whole list.
- ¥120,000–¥220,000 — the Umbreon V alt art SA. Full-bleed artwork, same set as Moonbreon, at a fraction of the price.
- ¥300,000+ — the Umbreon GX HR (Collection Moon), currently in stock at ¥405,080, and the Tag Team HR print, asking around ¥158,000 but with thin listing volume.
- Six figures and up, one-off — Moonbreon. If you’re buying at this end of the list, treat it as acquiring a specific graded copy rather than shopping a liquid market.
- Research before you buy — the Gold Star and the Ultra Shiny SSR. Both are genuine, well-documented cards, but neither has a current measured ask cluster we’re comfortable citing, so get a fresh quote before committing.
Why Umbreon Draws This Much Attention
Every Eeveelution now has a full-art or secret-rare chase card, but Umbreon consistently sits at or near the top of collector demand within that group. Part of it is the character: Umbreon’s design leans into a night-and-moon motif that illustrators have returned to repeatedly across two decades, from the 2005 Gold Star through the 2021 alt-art era to the newest Scarlet & Violet prints, giving the line an unusually consistent visual identity.
